Hey People!…… a thought occurred to me while hashing through all of the muckaty-muck of that unfavorable review.
” CAN EMMA TRULY LEAVE STORYBROOKE? ” We’re just assuming she can… REMEMBER!! Emma is a fairytale character!…. born from two other “fairytale” characters…..In FairyTaleLand…… she’s in the BOOK!…. she’s NOT from our world… she just happens to be the only “fairytale” character to escape the Curse INTO our world…..Henry is the only one who has truly demonstrated the ability to leave and return without incident……… but he’s at least 1/2 human…..Emma is 100% fairytale character……. Once a fairytale character returns to Storybrooke…… ” can they still leave? ” DID WE MISS THE FIRST CLUE ABOUT THIS ?….. the wolf in the pilot episode?….. Did Emma’s police car stall for REAL!…… is this the end of our Dynamic Duo!? tune in tomorrow….. Same BAT time……Same BAT channel…. 8^)P
Yes. Why? 1) Emma was the only one to escape the curse 2) Henry said she could leave anytime. He’s like an oracle. Whenever he speaks of the town or the characters, he’s been right every time (except for saying no one else can come to Storybrooke; the stranger has now arrived). He has said several times that Emma can leave Storybrooke whenever she wants.
” CAN EMMA TRULY LEAVE STORYBROOKE? ”
I would say yes.
….. the wolf in the pilot episode?
But at the time the wolf appeared on the highway, Emma had not made the decision to stay/live in Storybrooke.
Did Emma’s police car stall for REAL!
I don’t think so. She knows Michael droves the towtruck. It was her last opportunity to persuade him to take his kids. Remember, when Michael sees Emma on the highway, he says, “Your car, it’s fine?” How does Emma react?
Also, when she goes back to MM’s place, Emma tells her she helped a little in persuading Michael to take his kids. I think Emma knew in her heart that once he saw his kids in the flesh (not just the photos), he would change his mind.
But one thing that does puzzle me….if no one else can come to Storybrooke (except the stranger, so far), how does the town obtain their groceries, new clothing, school supplies, gasoline, etc. Wouldn’t all this stuff have to be trucked in from outside Storybrooke?
Yeah! David….. I’m with you all the way except I think I’m forced to reevaluate the reason why…”?” All that you’ve commented on would still have taken place, in the way it took place, even if Emma erroneously assumes (as we do) that she can come and go as she pleases. Henry, as an oracle, has been pretty accurate up untill Emma’s arrival and the restarting of time. From that point on “all is new” as Yoda said “Hmm, difficult to see, always in motion is the future” even for an oracle, ie.,Emma: ” I thought you said strangers don’t come to Storybrooke? Henry: They don’t.” So as the Dark Curse erods with the restart of time, things will occur that not even Henry can predict ie., the explosion of the “sink hole”, the return of “crickets”ect., and now the arrival of the “stranger”. I’m sure the original rules of the Curse (that weren’t affected by the restart of time) are still in play……… but!
……. the wolf in the pilot episode?
[At the time the wolf appeared on the highway, Emma had not made the decision to stay/live in Storybrooke.]
And that’s exactly where I went intially! So why would it (the Curse) not allow her to leave?? Making this a question of “intent”….. Evidently the Curse has something to do with “intent” as it would seem. Emma’s only “intent” at that moment was TO LEAVE!…… and it did not allow her!. “Time” did not restart until “Emma decided to stay/live in Storybrooke”… as you said… correct! INTENT again…. and it fits!
Emma’s intent was to take the kids to Boston, along with the belief that she could come and go from Storybrooke. As the car begins to sputter and stall you can clearly see her surprise and only then the realization of a last opportunity to reunite that family. I agree she helped it along, but only verbally with pleads and reasoning, but stalling an automatic….. just before the “LEAVING STORYBROOKE” sign? Too coincidental… Yes, one could argue that it stalled because there were two fairytale characters in the back seat….but, I believe it stalled because there was also a fairytale character in the front seat driving with the intent to leave.
Emma also has to believe the kids were the reason the car stalled….. again, at the borderline of Storybrooke and that Henry was right…. How else does she get out of that car and tell Michael the car is fine…… she’s assuming the car will be fine as soon as the kids get out of it….. and the car was!…. giving her reason to continue to believe that she can still come and go as she pleases and not realizing ( along with the rest of us ) that she has now failed TWICE! at trying to leave Storybrooke!
So why did the car start and everything was fine?
Her INTENT, as a fairytale character, was no longer to leave Storybrooke. She reunites the kids with their father and they return home, the car starts, she returns home and nobody leaves Storybrooke…… “INTENT”
Also, when Emma returns and tells MM what had happened she reveals yet another crack in her disbelief in Henry’s theories about Storybrooke.
Emma: “If they wanted to know me, they wouldn’t make it so
hard to look.”
MaryMargret: “Mabybe…. but, maybe there are other reasons,
Maybe there is an explanation.”
Emma: “If there is, it’s something crazy, (laughs) something
even CRAZIER than Henry’s theory.”
Implying that Henry’s theories aren’t the “craziest” things she’s heard of, anymore.
Henry only says that she “escaped” the Dark Curse. I agree, as a fairytale character, the only reason being is that she got the “hell out of Dodge” before the Curse hit. Henry has never used the term “immune” to the Curse… as he clearly is and has proven by leaving and returning.
IDK David….. I got a go with what has happened! Emma’s failed twice now at trying to leave Storybrooke and until we see her leave and return, like Henry has, I got to believe she’s trapped.
As far as the outside world contact, there’s been several instances:
Henry has a lap top and an internet connection.
Henry had to get a GreyHound Bus out of town to Boston!.
SOMEBODY! had to bring Henry to Storybrooke if it wasn’t Gold himself.
Emma had her belongings sent to MM’s by FedX, UPS, DHL??
And as far as regular shipments “before” Emma’s arrival…. well they weren’t necessary as ALL in Storybrooke had to be living the same year over and over. I’m guessing a year’s length as Henry wouldn’t have been able to get an education, to this point, if the time repeated was any shorter. Regina would just have to advance him herself year after year and so on and so on. Supplies, I imagine would just reappear the next day or next year. Groceries and nurishment weren’t necessary either as biology was frozen in age and time!
But, like i said earlier, now that time has been restarted… things are different now!… all bets are off!. And now I’m with YOU!
People are now aging, supplies and food are now being consumed. What Happens Now!??

Just have time for one response right now…. how do you know Emma’s intent was to take the kids to Boston? On the surface she had to appear to go along with what the mayor told her to do, but perhaps that was part of Emma’s plan. She knew that once she was out of sight of the mayor, she could fake that something was wrong with the car by snubbing brakes on and off, making it appear there was car trouble. Like I said before, she knew that once Michael saw his kids in the flesh, he would change his mind.
Hey David!…. Yeah!, Again, I’ve got to go with the logical end of it,…. what we’ve seen.
[How do you know Emma’s intent was to take the kids to Boston?]
#1 As we clearly saw, she was headed out of town – for lack of a better plan. Where else would she be headed?…the father’s home and shop are in the opposite direction.
[On the surface she had to appear to go along with what the Mayor told her to do, but perhaps that was part of Emma’s plan.]
#2 As we can clearly see now, up to the point of the car stalling, she had no plan!.
[She knew that once she was out of sight of the Mayor, she could fake that something was wrong with the car]
#3 If you’re out of sight of the Mayor…….. “who” would you be faking car trouble for…”?”
#4 IF, Emma’s intent was to drive to the city limits and call for help…. Wouldn’t she just pull the car to the side of the road, gently put the car in Park, turn off the engine, get out and make a phone call???
[ She knew that once Michael saw his kids in the flesh, he would change his mind. ]
#5 I totally agree!, but that wasn’t the plan til the car stalled…… by itself…… at the Storybrooke city border……………….was it ? 🙂
C’MON! DAVID!!….. I’m just having some fun with you!…
I NEED YOU!… and “obisgirl” and “deputybob” and “Joel” to FIND the holes! that I can no longer see in my own theories! SO KEEP IT COMING!…. I WELCOME IT!…. TOGETHER WE CAN SOLVE THIS THING!………… unless it goes on for ever&ever&ever&ever…
Maybe the bicycle belongs to…

the witch from wizard of oz didn’t ride a bike, she rode a broom. her real world counterpart though rode a bike.
