Wow what a spectacular episode. The show is getting better and better each week. Im Lovin’ it!!
Before I begin I wanted to throw my hat in the ring as it were about the “plot holes and inconsistencies.” I feel like people need to calm down about this. There hasn’t been anything major in my opinion. This show is 4 seasons deep. Its, bound to happen. I say just let it be and enjoy the show for what it is. Now, off the soapbox and on to my points

Regina speaking through snow was so good!! I laughed so hard at that!!!

Belle continues to dissapoint. They practically spelled it out for her and she still couldn’t connect the dots!! Shes a far cry from s1 Belle.

They continue to cheapen portals. In s1 we were led to believe all there was was Magic beans. Not so now. I cant even count all the ways they’ve revealed since!

I like the turn they took with Emma. Saying Gold wants to turn her completely dark for good makes a lot more sense sense then just saying she has the potential for great darkness or light.

August was so good in this episode. I loved getting a reference to the dragon from s2. Hopefully he’ll play into this somehow. I loved the inclusion of August’s built in lie detector. The effects were great! Cruelly face when Rump turned August into wood was priceless. It was questioned if they would go full torture mode on a family show and they did. Rump threatening to burn his face off was super dark! I love that were getting more about the author. The sorcerer trapping him in the book makes sense, but why? I still say the door is in Jefferson hat. The hat is in Story broke after all. Spencer did burn it so that’s a problem but I’m sure they can find a solution.

Ursulas Backstory / Redemption
It was cool getting to see Killian working for Pan again. I think they referenced every major arc in this episode. Poseidon was a great character, and im glad they didn’t just call him Triton. The Disney force was already strong enough with this episode. Speaking of disney, i loved how Ursulas story paralleled Ariels from the movie. Its amazing how they managed to make me go from not giving a crap about Ursula to loving her the next episode. Everything that happened to her was truly cruel and made me sympathize with her whole heartedly. I wonder who the Pirate was that killed her mom. Blackbeard perhaps? It was nice to get the correlation between the ursula Goddess we saw in s3 and this one. Im so glad they redeemed her without killing her, although im surprised it was done so early. Her reconciling with her father was one of my all time favorite moments and brought me to tears. Well done!! I wonder if well see her again.

This was a phenomenal episode. 9.9/10 leather pants

My fb says cruelly, i meant Cruella’ lol

—————–

From Trace

Hi Colleen and Jeff, another fun and enjoyable episode.

Loved the Ursula/Little Mermaid/Greek Mythology mash up. I’ve been humming the mermaid song all week. Poseidon being her father was very cool, and using parts of the original story like the mermaids summoning sailors with their singing. Do you think we’ll see Ursula again? We didn’t see her be evil at all, yet she was banished from the sea. Her mother was killed by a pirate…Blackbeard? Maybe the same will happen with Cruella? Back story, happy ending, then adios muchacha. Then the focus will be getting Maleficent’s baby back. All 3 Villainesses getting their happy endings this arc. Which hopefully means they will be back and join the good guys against Rumple. He doesn’t deserve a happy ending…YET. He has a lot of work to do to deserve it first.

Side note: I am so torn. The reason I fell in love with this show was Belle and Rumple. My nickname for my husband is “beast” before this show even started because no one sees the real him but me, and many wonder why I have stayed with him so long, but he loves me and I love him and I get to see the man no one else does. When this story arc was established and he was her “beast”, it really did hit home for me. I have hope they will work this all out, but she has a lot of forgiveness to accept. And I understood why she did what she did and how she’s trying to find some inner peace with Will.

Back to it: I believe that her and Will are rebounding and will end up helping each other and becoming close friends like Alice was to him. I am so intrigued on how Will fits into this whole story. Ok, So…Belle is worse at keeping secrets than Snow, but nice that they didn’t drag this plot out, and they all know Rumple is back. I really hope Hook was Hook when Ursula was she was spilling his plan. All the scenes with August were great, I was so hoping we’d see the nose come in to play and was not disappointed. It seemed like Regina was protecting him and I liked seeing her remain strong. The scene in the cabin with Ursula was awesome, the Scooby gang showed up and did good- nothing better than a frying pan K.O. delivered so well by Bandit Snow. All we needed was flying little puppies over Cruella’s head after she got knocked out. And, Oh My…that scene with Hook and Emma when she finally realized she was his happy ending and they kissed with that single tear on her cheek…(insert a bit of boo-hooing here). I am not convinced that Hook was ever really a villain to be honest, well evil anyway. He did some piratey things but all in all-he’s always had a good heart. What do you think of Regina’s dream? Why was evil Queen trying to protect Robin from Regina?

Things that made me go hmmmm…what’s up with Henry? Where’s he been? Maybe he’ll jump in Blue’s clues style to the book and they’ll all have to go get him, or the door will appear and only certain people can go through? And the whole Jolly Roger thing was a bit rushed. They must need that ship back for an upcoming plot is all I can think of, very convenient even though I loved seeing Ariel and that cute little ship in the bottle. Elsa can shrink ships? Nice. She does have other powers-she can bring inanimate objects to life like snowmen and can create things like ice skates so why not! Loved the reference anyway. Holy long email Batman! Sorry! Big love Oncers!! Trace

From Katie

Hi, Jeff and Colleen!

I liked Ursula’s story! It was a nice twist on the sirens and The Little Mermaid. Young Ursula had a nice voice. Although I am glad Ursula got a happy ending, I thought it would take longer.
It was nice to see Ariel again, especially since she saved Hook. Hopefully, something can be done to save her kingdom.
I wasn’t expecting the author to be trapped behind the door in the book. The main question is who trapped him in there and why.
I hope August stays for awhile. I have a feeling that if Emma turns evil or is about to turn evil he would be the main one to get her to join the good side again. Though Hook and Henry might be helpful as well.
Have a great day!

Katie

From Brad

Hello Jeff and Colleen, I sure hope you and the listeners are having a relaxing weekend just stretching out your tentacles. Now unto the things I learned this week on the episode, Poor Unfortunate Soul.

#1. Winston went from chasing
ghost to killing pirates.

#2. Regina is an excellent
ventriloquist.

#3. When planning a surprise
party, keep Belle in the dark.
She’s terrible at keeping
secrets.

#4. It’s not polite to insult the size
of a man’s ship.

#5. August is now perfect for the
remake of Roxanne.

#6. When Ursula finally has
children, those 8 hands will be
a godsend.

#7. No timber for Cruella, she’s
into the scruffy looking nerf
herders.

#8. ALWAYS lock the back door
when planning a villainous
scheme.

#9. Threatening a deity is not the
smartest of plans.

#10. Don’t put Mr. Smee in charge
of keeping tabs on the food
cargo, no matter how much
he begs.

OBSERVATIONS:

FATHOMS BELOW

After hearing Ursula sing Fathoms Below, it makes me think that a singing episode could be amazing if it was done right (Jeff, you can begin your sighs and moaning now). I’m not sure how they could do this, maybe a filler episode that’s really a dream? I would even take it as an extra on the bluray that is not tied to the main storyline.

GLOWERHAVEN

Ursula tells Hook she is saving money to travel to Glowerhaven. In The Little Mermaid, there is mention of the Princess of Glowerhaven. She is an unseen character and is only mentioned once as a woman brought to Prince Eric to be considered for marriage.

THEORIES:

THE DOOR

What if the door is actually keeping the author locked outside of the book, while at the same time keeping the whole world of Once Upon A Time inside? If this is true, a representation of who the author is, may already be in Storybrooke. The two most likely candidates could be Emma, the savior or Henry, the truest believer. This would explain the extra pages as well, which are illustrations that were scraped and didn’t make it into the story but are somehow bleeding through. The characters have now become self aware, leading everyone to search for the same thing, the author. A somewhat similar idea is seen with Bastian from the Neverending Story. As he reads the book, the characters become aware of his existence. Could this be a glimpse into the final conclusion of the entire series?

BURNING QUESTIONS:

SQUID INK

Was squid ink used to write and paint the illustrations in the book?

POSEIDON

If Poseidon could zap the squid ink out of Ursala’s hand, why not do the same with the shell? I totally did not understand why a deity would be helpless to a pirate with one hand. Did I miss something?

THE SEA GODDESS

Ursula said that she was named after the sea goddess of old. Was the gold statue that threatened Regina the real Ursula?

Notes:

Killian on another trip for Pan while he plots to destroy the Dark One.

Mermaid songs. Siren songs. We’ve already seen a Siren and Mermaids.

Rocks did Ursula make them appear – with her song?

Ursula could sing – very Ariel like. She wanted her voice to make people happy, like her Mother wanted. King Triton wanted her to use her voice to lure ships toward them to destroy the person that killed her Mother.

Who killed Ursula’s Mother? Hook?

Regina removed the knife, before it harmed August, then used the threat of fire.

August – The Dragon was looking for the Author for years, then August took his research.

Gold and the Queens still don’t trust Regina completely.

Gold to search August’s trailer.

Regina pulled a play from the movie “Ghost” playbook and inhabited Snow to relay her message. She told them that Gold is in town and planning something “bad”.

In Gold’s shop. Belle now learns that she was tricked again by Gold. Emma helps Killian not act in haste.

August knew about Robin Hood, because “Just cause the boy doesn’t remember being me, doesn’t mean I didn’t remember being the boy”.

Killian calling Ursula with the Conch shell. So, it not only calls Squids, but Ursula, too. Killian to return Urs’s happy ending for info about Gold.

Young Ursula had a beautiful singing voice. Hook bought her a drink for allowing his ship to escape. She broke into King Triton’s vault and stole the bracelet to allow her to walk on land.

King Triton used to be happy, before his wife

Turned my voice into a weapon. “Love is a weapon…”

Her voice can soothe even the most haunted soul. Her voice took away the pain Hook was carrying for Milah’s death by Rumpelstiltskin.

Saving for passage to GlaworHaven (Like MistHaven?). Hook will take her.

Piece of Iridium. Something on the Jolly Roger will give her her singing voice back.

Urs was banished to this world.

King Triton can enchant items. He told Killian about the Squid Ink to paralyze, in return for Killian to steal Urs’s singing voice. Triton also wanted Killian to show her how awful human’s can be.

Will helps Killian.

Robin – is that really Robin? Or Gold? Damn nightmare.

Regina, don’t take Mal’s sleeping potion.

Gold didn’t even search August’s trailer. He got a spell from the fairies’ power (How did he do that?) to undo the magic the fairies did, like making August a real boy from wood.

Snow is worrying that Emma is turning to the dark side.

Built in lie detector potion with a nose growing booster.

August removed the page about the door, so he was hiding it from those who read it.

Sorcerer’s Mansion search.

Kind of like Sea Monkeys, but make ships in bottles grow to full size.

Killian was honest with Ursula.

Villains can’t have Happy Endings.

Killian vs. Ursula

Ariel!

She always slaps him.

I thought Ariel was in

Big Love. Take what you need and pass it on.

Loving the bad Regina, even if she’s just pretending 🙂 August is Back!! Please!!!! Don’t de-aging him keep him as August
Maleficent; “Are you a bad girl.”
Regina: “The worse.”

Cruella’s game of don’t be a hero was fun… Maleficent defending her was really nice, “She’s just rusty.”

Their friendship really has developed a lot, Emma worrying about Regina.
Haha, Maleficent having a bad hair day.

“Pain always makes your stronger.” Poor Maleficent.
“Because if someone as powerful as you can’t get there revenge, that means I’ll never get mine too”, the struggle for happiness is truly hard, poor Regina 🙁

Poor Mal, “I lost the fire along time ago.” Lol, loving how Regina doesn’t want to be seen with the Charming Softball Team, “I can’t be seen with you.”

Emma and Regina: “I’m going to stick by you.”

Seeing Belle and Will on a date breaks my heart, what about Ana 🙁
I love how Regina helped Maleficent to help reignite her fire within, I guess thats why she’s gave Regina the benefit of the doubt.

Everyone wants Pinocchio, do they have Amber Alerts in Storybrooke lol. So cool how the villains are taking a page out of the “Heroes Playbook” and so the even the playing field they have to do the same. The struggle to attain happiness is heartbreaking.

Nice to see Aurora back, Regina: “That was inspired”, “You reminded me of who I am, thank you.” Aww Maleficent 🙂

Damn, plot twist, Belle gave Rumple the dagger as Hook. “I don’t know if I can ever be over him.”

Regina is in on the plan now, “You didn’t think I would stay banished for long.”
“Sometimes the teacher needs to learn from the teacher, sometimes you need to fall very far, too see the light.”

Rumple: “Have you gone soft.”
Regina: “Never!”

Hey I have a theory what if the villains did succeed and tip the balance and the villians won and the heroes didn’t in the season finale and we think Emma the one who might become a villain but since Charmings went to great length for that not to happen the villains kidnapped baby Neal and magically aged him to twenty-one years old and instead of Emma being the greatest villain baby Neal is and next season is them saving baby Neal and tipping balance back what you think of these guys to play baby Neal

From Trace

Hi Colleen and Jeff!

Missed you this week-glad you’re doing 2 podcasts-double the fun! Hope your feeling better.

Here are my thoughts for the week. Wow…a lot happened this episode, and I loved it. The “mean girls” of evil so funny. Though, if doing shots and partying too much is a sign of being evil, then call me a Queen of Darkness! I thought Emma’s concern for Regina was a great sign of their growing friendship. The fact that Regina lied to her was bad. But as irony would have it, at the same time it showed that Regina was keeping Snow’s secret-I think Lana did a great job of showing that she really didn’t want to lie, but had to. The heroes are not very good at covert operations, Regina is going to get busted for sure if the Scooby gang isn’t more careful. Oh, Belle, belle, belle!!! Isn’t she the smart Disney Princess? I suppose book smart and street smart are not the same. But she knew in her gut that something was wrong and didn’t trust herself. Bad bad Rumple! Not a great way to get her to trust you again. I feel like if all the hero’s would just sit down in a room and spill all their secrets to each other-they’d be a lot better off. Do you think Rumple was Hook when they all met at Granny’s and knows Regina is a mole? Maleficent the 80’s drug addict-so awesome. So, cross Stephan off the list of baby daddy’s now that he’s been “taken care of.” I still think the Sorcerer is the father, I hear a lot of people saying its Rumple-but I get no sense that they had a “intimate relationship”, well not yet anyway, this IS Once Upon a time after all. Poor poor Marco. I’m happy to have August back cuz I thought it was kind of creepy he was Pinocchio again, but how much can this man take? Regina said she would never let them hurt a child-but he’s now not a child-be careful August!

Things that made me go hmmmm…where did the train come from? Was it magical as part of the initiation? How did Belle not figure this one out? Why would Hook be sooo concerned about the dagger all of a sudden and she even said she sensed Rumple was around?? That’s it? One 1 minute scene of Aurora? I hope we get more when we find out who the Father is in a backstory. Maybe there won’t be anymore because they are taking the story in a different direction?

Lastly, I do agree that Rumple’s end game may not be what we all think. If is happy ending is Belle, then he could turn out to be a hero after all. He only needed the evil duo to get into Storybrooke. If he does know Regina is playing both sides and not giving her up might show he’s playing both sides as well. I feel like we all give Rumple a pass when his evilness is for a greater purpose (like finding Bae), so maybe this is the same thing-the means will justify the end? My hope for the season: That the “Charmings” get the chance to help Maleficent find her “lost” baby so all can be forgiven and she’ll get her happy ending and be redeemed.

BIG LOVE ONCERS!! Patience everyone-only the 3rd episode and a lot to cover. Talk to all you “Poor Unfortunate Souls” next week! Trace

From Brad

Welcome back….dearies!
I hope you both are looking and felling better than Maleficent did. Now, shall we begin. Here are the things I leaned this week on the episode, Enter The Dragon.

#1. If you’re not drinking, burning
and destroying things, you’re
not having a good time.

#2. These spell books are like
trading cards.

#3. Maleficent was one smooth
criminal.

#4. Regina’s code name in this
episode could have been
Bonnie Brasco.

#5. Ursala is not the only one who
drinks like a fish.

#6. Turning into a dragon can be a
bit showy but ripping
someone’s heart out and
crushing it in front of them is
perfectly acceptable.

#7. A piece of wood from the
forever burning tree would be a
wood cutters dream.

#8. At least Cruella’s
enchantments can drive better
than her.

#9. Gold took the Jungle Book
song, “I wanna be like you”, to
a whole new creepy level.

#10. Even those skilled in Dark
magic realize the raw power
that is duct tape.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

If Cruella can persuade dogs, bugs and vehicles, can she do the same to people?

HIGHLIGHT:

One word, AUGUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff,

This is Raegan from Utah. We met early this month near the flag pole in DCA. You came in with Tommy Alison of the DisGeek and Cruise Dudes Podcast.

I downloaded every episode of your Podcast and am looking forward to listening in. This is what I did with DisGeek too. I came in about 15 or so episodes.

It was great to meet you with Tommy in the Parks. I think the Podcast community is a pretty interesting and cool group of people. I am happy as a fan. I don’t know what I would have to say about anything on a weekly or monthly basis.

Thanks,

Raegan

I started your podcast but it seems to be mid season and started with the miller’s daughter. Is there a different podcast of yours that started with episode one season one?
Thanks,

Average. Some really great scenes but some real stinkers too.

*** This show’s obsession with purity in exactly the wrong way continues to be stupid. The cognitive dissonance just doesn’t make for good television. Maleficent basically revealed that Emma is…a human! Capable of both good and bad acts! WOW! And knowing the bad things Snow and Charming had done, even at that point makes their insistence at being heroes two dimensional. Will Emma really be that mad at them for doing everything they can to protect her from becoming a villian. (I miss the Snow and Charming of Snow Falls)

PS I still love this show

——————–

From Chris Tipton

Hello,
I have to sadly say this was a very meh episode to me. Very slow paced and plodding. With that said… My 5 points

*** 5. The reveal of what Snowing did to Maleficent- Im not sure of how i feel about this. I dont know whether to think its super dark or just plain silly. I do feel it was kind of a letdown for the build up, at least so far. Hopefully the more they reveal will make it better. I have issues with what they’re saying about Emma. So she’s basically any human, she has the potential to be good or bad, so does anyone else. And Snow saying if she turns dark, her child will be doomed to that darkness as well. Excuse me?! No child is ever doomed or forced to follow their parents mistakes. That is just ridiculous. Ok, ill get off the soapbox

4. Maleficents resurrection- I felt the way this came about made since and was handled pretty well. Its still pretty convenient and easy that all they needed was her ashes and Snowings blood, but i suppose it is what it is. When she materialized there it was, genuinely scary and makes you worry for the charmings.
Side note, im not digging her horns, as good a job Edwardo Castro usually does, these look cheaply made and leave alot to be desired.

3. Belle and Will…. Wow Doctor, i did not see this coming. So Belle has definitely moved on, and I REALLY, REALLY want to know what happened to Anastasia now. It cant be good.

2. Cruella- She continues to be absolutely Stellar. Her cunning wit and snark easily rivals Regina in my opinion. I love how she calls everyone Darling, sort of a, parallel to Rumples “Dearie”. Some highlights of her: wanting to turn Granny into a fur coat, she wears blood diamonds apparently and she likes charmings looks. Shes by far the best of the 3. Still waiting on Ursula to become interesting at all. I feel like i seem to say this about every new villain, but Cruella is already one of my favorite villains yet. Actually, just for fun, ill rate the villains
1. Cruella
2. Rumple
3. Ingred
4. Pan
5. Cora
6. Zelena
7. Maleficent
8. Ursula
(I don’t count Regina because shes no longer a villain but when she was shes obviously the best, and Greg and Tamara just sucked)

1. Regina and Marco- this was easily my favorite part of an otherwise lackluster episode. Seeing Regina so vulnerable and apologizing like that was so amazing. Shes truly a hero, one of the good guys if you will. I know many fans miss the evil queen but i absolutely adore where she is now. Some of the best character development ive ever witnessed on screen. Marco Giving her August’s stuff was tear-worthy and very exciting!! Can’t wait to see all that was in that satchel

HM-Regina reminiscing about her happiness with Robin was heart breaking. Robin needs to get his hands on that scroll and get back to town

Overused term of the week: witches

Well, after a second watch and writing this feedback, i liked the episode more, but still not great. 7/10 chiseled chins

Hello again Colleen and Jeff,

You said you thought it was interesting to hear how we all found your podcast. I heard you and Colleen on a round table on the Once Podcast. Those are a bit hectic to listen to…but you and Colleen stood out to me with your positivity. There’s a lot of haters out in the fandom, so I choose to listen to the few podcasts where I feel the hosts actually love the show like I do, and you and Colleen remain my top faves!!! I, at that time was binge watching Once to get caught up…so I would watch a show, then go listen to your podcast and have loved it since!! I enjoy hearing everyone’s feedback as well. The fans of your podcast are funny, and most of all…positive. I usually end up re-watching the show due to others thoughts that are so interesting! Ok, love fest over for now J

Here are a few of my thoughts for this week: Last week I said I thought Lilly was involved, and now we all know how! I totally agree with both of you that Lilly is the “lost child.” Wow Colleen, I never thought of the baby in utero swap idea though…so interesting of a theory! She has a star tattoo so the father could be the sorcerer because of the stars in the hat? Or the Author because now we know he left clues to his where abouts and maybe the tattoo is a clue for Lilly? But, King Stephen could also be?? Maleficent must have found a way to get Lilly over to this land prior to the curse…or the sorcerer sent her over to save her. Here’s a side note I found interesting…Lilly means pure and innocent. But, her quote unquote foster/adoptive father called her “Lilleth’, which means dark/evil. So, Maleficents’ child (like she said to Snow) has the potential to be very very evil, but very good as well. I think the irony in all of this will be that Snow and Charming did everything in their power to assure that Emma would be “good”, by not doing anything dark. But, all this lying and betrayal is what will send Emma dark now anyway. But, if they would have all just worked together, they could have probably done more good to stop the curse. Kind of like now…it seems to me that EVERYONE is on the same side-they just don’t realize it yet…they all want to find the author and get the happy endings. If the hero’s and villians would team up for once…imagine what they could accomplish!

So, I think I just used all my time on that story arc, there was way too much good stuff in this episode. I can’t not add though how great the acting was this week by all, and OMG Belle and Will!!!! Ol’ Rump is not going to like this at all!

Hope you feel better Jeff-Big love to all the Oncer’s out there…this is going to be sooooooooooooooo good!!! Talk to ya all next week. Trace

I have a theory that maybe Maleficents childs father may be king Stephan. This would definitely be a once style twist on the original story.

Hi, Jeff and Colleen!

I have enjoyed this season so far!
I think that Snow and Charming should have told Emma the truth. Lily could be Maleficent’s daughter, especially since it’s been hinted that she will be in another episode.
I think Henry will find out who the writer is in a couple more episodes. Have a great week!

From Brad

Good day darlings! Here are the things I learned this week in the episode, Unforgiven.

#1. If you want to keep Henry
happy, make sure those
chocolate donuts are frosted!

#2. Sometimes that 2:38 in the
morning whiskey is the only
thing that will help.

#3. Rushing Granny is a very bad
idea and will only prolong your
misery.

#4. After six whole months outside
of Storybrooke, Gold still
does not posses the most
powerful object our world has
to offer, a smart phone!

#5. A car full of parking
violations and a glovebox
stocked with gin is perfectly
acceptable when Sheriff
chiseled chin pulls you over.

#6. In the highly debated hot top
of french fries vs onion rings,
Emma is pro rings.

#7. As long as Belle and her
extraordinary inventory skills
are around, Will’s thieving days
may be over.

#8. The Charming’s would have
made great villains with their
lying skills. Ursalla and
Cruella should take note.

#9. After all the curses in
Storybrooke, not one person
thought of maybe weaving
in some IMacs for everyone.

#10. Emma’s needs a new super
power because her old one is
about as reliable as Sleepy on
guard duty.

OBSERVATIONS:

The Golden Bird story has struck again!
