This is the first time we seen it since the many times in season 1 such as this:
Since magic is different in the world they are in now since the curse has been broken. Can he still turn straw into gold. If so, what kind of plans does he have to use it on?.

At the end of the season 1 finale, we saw purple smoke or “magic” as Mr. Gold called it cover Storybrooke.
Mr. Gold said “magic is power”.
Regina had that devious smile when she saw magic coming.
What does it mean to have magic in Storybrooke? How will Regina and Mr. Gold use magic to their advantage/disadvantage? How will magic affect the residents of Storybrooke? Is this new magic “free for all”?

Rumpelstiltskin’s likability has been a big surprise to many people – his metallic skin, poor dental hygiene and slightly creepy features scared many people away. But after watching Desperate Souls, many fans (as they call themselves #dearies) were smitten by the man we call Rumpelstiltskin.
And so, executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis have promised more Rumplestiltskin (and possibly even Mr. Gold) in upcoming epsiodes.
