Here my thoughts for this episode

Love Regina talking Emma down it was great seeing young Emma and Lily
My question is since the apprentice told Lily the truth shouldn’t she go after the author Isaac…

My theory is the author going rewrite everything and the villains going to be the heroes and heroes going to be the villains and everyone going to disappear from Storybrook into enchanted forest and since we know Henry was born here he be left alone and he going to be the new author because Isaac will probably died and Henry will have to rewrite it back they way it was

Big love to the Roneys. New listener and first time emailing the show…so cue the music.

I have a theory that may be a simple ending to the season and put up a big bad for the next season. What if…like Emma’s potential for darkness was transferred to Lilly, they find a way to transfer Lilly’s darkness to Zalena’s baby, if she is truly pregnant? I totally do not like this theory but…you know how this show is with parallels. Yuck. Or perhaps the transferring vessels need to be of the same age so Emma may take back her potential for darkness. It’s seems Emma thinks she can carry all this darkness and still be light. But that would make Lilly and more importantly Mal happy. And I can see those two fitting into the Storybrooke community since it looks like Mal has become comfortable in the Mayor’s office.

I couldn’t help thinking that Regina and Emma were playing Cagney and Lacey.

I don’t know if Regina was showing “righteous anger.” Anger is anger whether you think it is wrong or right. I feel she was just so frustrated with Robin. Here she risks her safety to come rescue him and he’s like….”Thanks but no thanks.”

And that leaves the question…WHERE IS ROLAND anyway?! Oh, well. Maybe next episode he’ll come home from school.

Thanks for your podcasts,
Helen

Hi Jeff and Colleen,

I am on my lunch break walking the parking lot at about 3 AM as I type this. And Jeff, yes I do have some Star Wars references for you In a bit.

I only watched the episode once so I could be misrembering but I thought the Sorcerer sounded an awful lot like the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin.

I wonder if Andy and Eddie are Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans because one of the locations was Hopkins, MN which is where MST3K was based out of.

Lily telling Emma to shoot her reminded me of the climax of Return of the Jedi in the throne room when The Emperor taunted Luke to give into his hatred and strike him down so his journey to the dark side will be complete.

Here’s where I lose probably a bunch of Oncers – My heart sank when I saw Rebecca Mader in the credits and it has nothing to do with her. I don’t have any interest in the character. It’s not dislike in the JR Ewing love to hate way. I just want the character to go away. I don’t care what she does, I just want her scenes to be over as soon as possible to get on to something else. For me, Zelena is the Jar Jar Binks/NikkI and Paulo of Once Upon a Time.

But enough negativity. Thanks for the podcast and keep up the great work.

Chris

From Chris

I apologize for the double email But I want to clarify that I don’t mean to say that I think Rebecca Mader is to blame for my indifference to Zelena. It’s just that the writers haven’t done anything to make me personally care anything about the character. With Regina, Rumple, Cruella, Hook, Pan, and Robin, I wanted to know more about them right off the bat. With Zelena, I have none of that interest.

Maybe it’s just me.

From Chris Tipton

To answer your questions Jeff, i am a star wars nut!!! I love it!! As for my favorite episode this season, that would have to be “best laid plans”

Onto my feedback. Once got back in my good graces this week, while not a spectacular episode, still very good.

I seriously hope there is more to the Sorcerer. I hope this was just sort of like when they use the communicators in star wars…. If this is all there is to him is a big swirling blob then its a huge letdown. Nice to finally put to bed that they are different… Entities at least. So apparently it was still the author who wrote everything that came after he got trapped. Nice to have that addressed.

Im going to say Cruella is definitely gone. We saw the body and a coffin. Shes gone.

Im extremely disappointed that Regina took Belles heart without permission. It was amazing (and foolish) when Will told Rumple hes already in the process of stealing Belles heart. Im very proud of Rumple at least doing one thing right and stepping out of the way of Will and Belle. This was a very sad scene. After everything Rumples done i still somehow feel for him. I just wish he could get what he wants without hurting people.

Im glad Emma showed some remorse for Cruella and its nice to know last week was just a stepping stone and not as severe as i thought. I loves seeing more backstory between Emma and Lily. It was extremely heartbreaking. I actually like the twist that fate drove them together, and the way they handled Lilys life being inherently full of darkness made sense. Im actually starting to enjoy the way they’re handling Emma “going dark”, its just a steady slide. I hope there’s an epic payoff. I don’t really mind them using fate to explain all the conveniences away, but it is still kind of cheap. Regina talking Emma down was awesome, this whole scene was amazing. Im very glad Emma did the right thing. Maybe she won’t go dark? This definitely puts it in doubt a little bit. I do worry what them taking her to Storybrooke may unleash. I LOVE that the apprentice got to Lily in our world and told her everything. Very cool. I guess he can literally go to any realm at any time, and Lily calling him yoda was one of my favorite lines ever.

Zelena is pregnant…. WOW didn’t see this coming. Everyone was saying that Regina was probably pregnant, but no, this was just shocking to me. I do kind of wonder how Zelena got pregnant and Robin still never noticed the necklace. This was an awesome twist.

An update on last week, after listening to all the podcasts, rewatching the episode and more thought, i do like last weeks episode better. I still have some problems but i dont hate it so much anymore. I would say… 6.75/10 skinned authors. As for this week, i really enjoyed it. 8/10 dragon leashes

—————–

From Becca

This episode was killer. One of the best I can remember. Your first thoughts podcast hit on a lot of the things that stood out to me. Here are the things that have been on my mind since re-watching:

Emma: She seems to be in one never-ending jaw clench this season. I can see why. There is a lot piled on her plate right now-

regret over killing Cruella, (possibly a bit of satisfaction over killing Cruella as well??),
fear that killing Cruella means she is going dark (I know she holds to her own free will, but perhaps deep inside she is afraid that darkness is overtaking out of her control)
unforgiveness with her parents,
lily’s drama,
stuff with the author/Gold
Protecting Henry

I’m not so much concerned with her going dark due to a conscious choice, as I am of her being so overwhelmed by all of these stressors and reaching a breaking point.

I’d have to agree with some listeners about Emma needing to forgive her parents…the thing about forgiveness is: it’s for your own good to forgive others. Forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending that the hurt never happened. In fact, ignoring a hurt and pretending it didn’t happen is basically the opposite of forgiveness. Forgiveness means that you accept that the choices were made, no matter how bad they were, and you refuse to let feelings of bitterness or hate affect your life and future decisions.

And forgiveness is a choice that sometimes must be made over and over again. I don’t expect Emma to be perfect and completely forgive her parents in an instant and never struggle with the decisions they made regarding her and Lily. I just want to see Emma start in the direction of coming to terms with the choices made. I want to see her choose to be an adult and recognize that her parents made a difficult decision that probably wasn’t ideal.

All this bitterness is doing is eating away at her. It is slowly draining the life out of her. She is losing her personality and the things that make her “Emma”. It seems that every episode she becomes more solemn and melancholy.

*And one more thing about forgiveness: the “guilty” party doesn’t have to be sorry to be forgiven! Forgiveness isn’t a bargain where each party gives and each party takes. Forgiveness isn’t a cop-out for bad behavior. Forgiveness is a freely given, undeserved gift for those who are given it. And it is takes a lot of strength to offer that free gift and expect nothing in return. But it is very freeing for those who discover the act of living unoffended lives.*

She can forgive her parents even if they never apologized and sincerely say “we were wrong”. It’s about hate and bitterness losing it’s hold on Emma, not about her parents repenting of all wrong and making amends for their wrongs. I’d love to see Snow and Charming right their wrongs, but Emma has control over how this affects her and I really want to see her personal development in this area. Fingers crossed that this is in store before the season ends!

Robin Hood’s duty to Zelena and the baby:

Does he really need to stay with her? Maybe I’m just super insensitive and not well versed in baby-daddy etiquette, but I feel like if you were manipulated into conceiving with the wicked witch who killed your wife and disguised herself as her, that should earn you a get-out-of-daddying-free card?! But I guess the poor child would be doomed with Zelena as the only parental influence in its life, so maybe its best for Robin Hood to stay.

…But I can’t even imagine how Robin + Zelena co-parenting will even work! How is he going to agree with any decisions that Zelena makes for their child? She killed his wife. Marriages (or any relationship) can’t last without some trust. And I’m just guessing he probably has zero trust in her? The child might motivate him to stay, but there is no way that Robin Hood will find a way to co-parent with Zelena, right? Just no way.

Any thoughts on how that might work?

Thanks to you both for the podcast. It is a highlight every week.

-Becca

P.S- from my first e-mail from the Cruella episode, you deduced that I’m from central time zone based on my OUAT time slot of 7-8pm. You are correct 🙂 I’m deep in the heart of Texas. Wish I was closer to California- I’d come to RegalCon!

————–

Hi Colleen and Jeff!

First, you both made comments that you felt may get you some nasty emails during the Heart of Gold main show. Here’s mine

Hehe, Just kidding! I think everything you said was right on point…both of you.

OHHHH MY!! This was a great episode…and then the last minute happened and I GROOOOANNED out loud. I had a feeling it was coming and I was yelling “no, don’t do it, don’t let it be a baby”…and then, there it was, the Telenovelas moment of OUAT. I feel we have enough going on with Robin and Regina without this being necessary. I know it’s bad, but initially, I was like “so what if she’s pregnant-she totally deceived you and is a rotten person, just take Roland and leave with Regina!” But, Robin’s honor would never let him do that and Zelena knows this. So, the only reasoning that makes this ok, is if it’s a fake pregnancy. Then again, the other thing I thought was “might as well go big or go home”…what if Regina is pregnant too?? We did have the episode where she told Emma she eats like a child and was eating healthy, kale salad…? After re-watching, I was better with the ending realizing that it hopefully is a last ditch desperate attempt to keep Robin from Regina and get back into Storybrooke. Fingers crossed. Switching gears: I think my theory on the sorcerer being her father got another boost. The apprentice told Lilly if she noticed how the necklace complimented her tattoo so well, and the Hat has a star with a crecsent moon…thoughts? By far, the Emma/Regina chemistry and friendship was the best this episode…I could watch their scenes together over and over. I love watching their relationship develop. It has progressed perfectly. Not too rushed or too slow. Ok…the scene. Probably one of the best scenes the entire series in my opinion. Emma wanting to shoot Lilly and Regina talking her down. Written, acted, and shot beautifully!! Even if we all knew she wasn’t going to do it-it was sooo well done! I still have goose bumps. I feel the end scene overshadowed how great of a moment this truly was, but I just loved it! Now everyone is coming for the author!! I think he and the apprentice have big parts to play in the finale which hopefully means we’ll finally get to see him released from the hat!

Things that made me go hmmm….why did Regina give Maleficent Belle’s heart? Why not put it in your vault with the heart lockers and protection spells? And Maleficent is just the “Mistress of all Evil” we all knew. She couldn’t stop Will from going out the window-or Dragon out and go get it back? She lost her baby to the Charmings, and did nothing really to stop them-sooooo…basically, she puts people to sleep? I still think Belle gave her heart willingly-but when Regina told her to “run along and forget all this” is when she forgot. Why did Hook and Belle stop trying to get the Apprentice out of the hat? He was so upset about it and it seemed like a good mission and sure better than what they’ve been doing. Why did the apprentice tell Lilly everything and not Emma? He should have gotten them both together as young ladies, told them both what was up, and they could have helped eachother this whole time! Just saying. Unless that would have messed with Emma’s destiny to be the savior…? He basically told Lilly she was doomed from the get go…I kinda feel like he left her with no hope, and helped put her on her path for revenge. Just didn’t make sense, what do you all think?

Great episode. Lilly and Emma being eachother Ying and Yang is going to get very interesting. Can’t wait for next week and all the “Mother’s!”
Big love to both of you and all the Oncers. Talk to you next week, Trace

From Brad

The next time you’re on a bus, take note of the rambling old man in the back. He may actually have all the answers you’re looking for. Now onto the Things I Learned this week on the episode, Lily.

#1. Pay no attention to the
sorcerer behind the curtain.

#2. Fate is like that annoying
little fly that keeps buzzing in
your ear.

#3. Think twice before calling a
women’s friend a loser.

#4. Emma needs a bumper
sticker that reads, “I brake for
wolves”.

#5. Sometimes one pack of Advil
just isn’t enough.

#6. Free burgers for a week
would make anybody smile.

#7. Regina was so close when
she stated that fate was a
female dog, it turns out it’s
actually a wolf.

#8. Emma might have learned her
fast and furious driving skills
from Dominic Torreto.

#9. Lily is a fan of Star Wars.

#10. Even the apprentice has
to pay bus fare.

WOW I’m so impressed! Once upon a time has really stepped it up! I thinks this half season has probably been the best stretch the show has ever had! On to my thoughts

Emma…she had ALOT of wisdom in the little bit she was in. It was a relief to hear that she was mad at what snowing did to Lily, because I kind of thought she was only mad at them lying to her. The only thing I hated is that she forgave Hook so easily but yet she’s crucifying her parents in pretty much the same situation.Jennifer Morrison is acting the heck out of this… Also, those eyes! Yesterday was her birthday, so it was unfortunate that she wasn’t in the episode much but what she was in was awesome!

Rumple….it was nice to see rumple go back to Neal’s apartment. I liked the twist that rumples evil is slowly killing him In a world without magic. I loved his quip about the doctors having small minds. It was nice to see the elixir make an appearance in our world and get a mention of Walsh and see where he worked. Rumple is so caniving, the way he pushed robin to be with “Marian” even his own mortality can’t sway him. I really feel he will never be redeemed. Also I found it hilarious his heart is literally hollow lol. Still waiting to see what his happy ending is. I think it may be finding away to get rid of his dark one powers.

Robin….so good to finally get his backstory. It was cool that they went way back to even before he was Robin Hood. I liked the twist that he already was married to Marian and she worked with him. Before this episode I didn’t really care for them as a couple and after this episode, I really would ship them, so it’s a shame she’s dead. I loved when the show sort of poked fun at itself when robin mentioned the self explanatory name of the elixir. It was cool to see Will in Oz, but I’m tired of the show trolling us. They keep teasing us like they’re going to finally tell us what happened to Ana, but no,it was just about his sister. I’m starting to think we may never find out. I don’t even understand why they brought him in. He still has no purpose. One thing that confused me….why did Regina need Emma to look robin up for her if he had a phone with her number? Maybe he had her number but she didn’t have his? I was very impressed with the actress who plays Marian. I had never liked her at all before, even found her annoying, but she did great this episode, especially the part where she comes in rumples room, she played that amazingly. I loved their explanation of why Robin looked different in s2….very clever, as was the explanation of how he got his name. I have issues with Robin saying stealing for someone else makes you a hero. Stealing is wrong no matter what

Zelena….hooooly cow!! Rebecca madder put on one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in this show! I was completely enraptured in her villainry. I’m so glad she’s back and I hope she sticks around! It was a relief to finally get an explanation of what happens to her when rumps “killed” her. I was always against the theory that zelena was Marian because I wondered how she could have stayed cloaked when they left SB so it was nice to have that addressed. I can’t believe she managed to turn Robin away from Regina. It makes me feel better about when Marian just conveniently came down with the frozen heart thing again, it was zelenas doing to get robin out of SB. I still can’t get over how amazing zelena was in this episode. She was far better then she ever was in s3. If she keeps this up she’ll become my best villain. Speaking of villains, I’m so disappointed cruella has take such a back seat. I CANT WAIT for next week as it will be all about her. I love zelenas plan. Her happy ending is to destroy Regina. I’m not sure how the author could write that, maybe force him to love zelena. Who knows, but I can’t wait to see what it is.

What an episode!!! For the second week In a row…10/10 coal hearts

—————-

From Deborah

Few thoughts.

Not sure Regina has made up her mind.

Why was Gold having chest pain when talking with sleeping Belle?

Why did Gold say I will come back for you if I can? (To Belle)

How come Emma is so ready to forgive and give others second chance but not her parents?

Looking forward to main show, Love you guys

—————–

From Andrea

Hello,

Just some random Heart of Gold thoughts.

1. You guys and I think the General Audience forget that Rumple as the Dark Curse in him, unlike Regina and Hook whose villain behavior is all them, Rumple actually has something evil inside influencing/corrupting him, so I give him a pass than the other two.

2. If doing evil deeds causes one to get sick, then Regina and Hook should be in ICU. Hook is a pirate, did thievery, sold out boys to Pan, while Regina killed hundreds of villagers, burnt hundreds of villages, killed husband and father, etc..

3. The two Mills sisters have something in common. They both engage in sex with men not fully in their control Regina with Graham minus his heart, and Zelena disguising herself as Marian without Robin’s knowledge. Stay classy sisters.

4.This episode was also a reminder that Zelena kept Rumple a prisoner over a year and he is still traumatized by it. Loved Robert Carlyle playing PTSD in the hospital scene with Zelena. Proof yet again why he is the best actor on the show.

5. This episode seemed like a retcon to bring respectablility to Outlaw Queen. I think the audience was okay with ship until Marian was brought back and Robin making the commitment to her at the beginning of 4A. Only when Robin broke the commitment by the vault screwing in Smash the Mirror did the audience flip out, as seen by the negative feedback on twitter and facebook and media. So decided to make Marian not really Marian but the problem is Robin believed it to be Marian at the time and he still cheated on her with Regina. Not cool.

6. Favorite moment was when Emma called out her parents for using the ‘i was manipulated, its not my fault’ defense. Finally! Emma was absolutely right that just because you were manipulated does not absolve you from your actions. Regina has not learned this lesson by her statement at the end of the episode where she accused Rumple of making her a monster and not accepting that yes, he manipulated her but she still chose that path of darkness when she could have walked away.

7. Actually felt bad for Regina during one point of this episode.(i’m not a Regina fan). She genuinely looked hurt when Rumple told her that his affections for her were limited. I think on some level she sees him as a mentor/possibly father figure and she really did look hurt at his admission.

Have a good day!

Andrea

From Trace

Hi Colleen, Jeff and all the Oncers,

Ok…WOW! I think was a great episode. It reminded me so much of season one, and even though I was one that had theorized Marion was really “Marzelena”, the reveal was still soooo awesome! Can we all give some kudos to Rebecca Mader who just killed it? She was so deliciously wicked! “She’s as dead as well……your son”. Now, that’s how you be evil ladies of darkness! Colleen, do you also still think Rumple has secret plans for goodness? He now has a purpose again, to avenge his sons death-and that’s when Rumple is at his “rumpley” best. Why does he need Emma to go dark? Maybe because she is the only one who can truly defeat Zelena per season 3B. But then I got confused, because I thought Zelena could only be defeated by the strongest “Light magic”, and if she’s dark, then how does that work? The look on Rumples’ face when he realized it was Zelena…priceless! Ok, a quick awwwwwww…for Marion. At least getting poofed away was better than execution per the evil Queen I’m sure, but sad-and poor Roland. He thought he had his mom back. When Regina was on the phone with Zelena-her face, her reactions…fantastic. What decision do you think she’ll make? I think she’s either going to tell Rumple to screw off, or ACT like she chosen Robin and try this undercover thing again. Oh…wait. What if she tells Emma, then Emma fakes going dark and that is what we’ve been seeing in the promos-is actually her acting dark? Shout out to Will! So nice to have him in the story-and this is the second time we’ve heard about his sister. (Once in Wonderland). OUAT does not do that without a reason. Ok, The author. “You may be the biggest pain in the ass I have ever had the displeasure of writing for.” Best line of the season so far!! All the oncers yelled a hell ya to that quote Sunday I’m sure. The reason this half season is so great, is that we can theorize again…there is so much going on and that could or could not happen. Does anyone else think that its possible someone else has part of the 6 leaf clover? How did she get it from Robin? Who knows who else is not truly themselves??? Do you think this season will wrap up this year like in the past? I feel there is so much going on that it must be a cliffhanger into next season. We have the Author, Cruella’s story, Emma going dark, Charming’s redemption, Zelena, Robin and Regina, the apprentice still in the hat, where and who is the sorcerer, Cora coming, Lilly and Maleficent, Will’s back story………..and only 4 episodes to go??? Lions and Tigers and Bears-OH MY!!

CAN’T WAIT till Sunday. This has been the best season since season 1. I do love the Frozen gang-but have to say-I’m glad we’re back!!!! Big Love to both of you and all the Oncers. Looking forward to all the feedback! Talk to all of ya next week!! Trace

Hi Jeff and Colleen,

I hope you guys enjoyed “The Heart of Gold” episode as much as I did. Loved it! There were so many awesome moments. I just wanted to send you a couple of Easter Eggs in case you missed them. The first one is the Hidden Mickey in the drawer Robin Hood is looking through in the Wizard of Oak Shop! (See attached photo)

IMG_0253

IMG_0255

The other one is in the scene with Robin Hood and Will as they are saying goodbye at the OZ doorway Curtain. If you look at the very bottom of the edge of the screen shot there is a broken Tin Man lying on the ground. In the original story he chopped himself into pieces and they were each replaced by tin. I thought it was really cool that they put that in there. so glad I caught it on a rewatch this week. Just thought I’s share with you. Have a great weekend and Big Love right back to you guys!

Pay no attention to the tax notice on the door dearies because it’s time for the Things I Learned in the episode, Heart of Gold.

#1. Altering the entire state of

#2. If Roland thinks New York is

#4. There are times when

#10. Mr Gold would be downright

THEORIES

I have had lots of theories in the past that usually never pan out so when we found out that Zelena was really Marian, it was like winning the lottery! I was so excited! Now I understand other listeners may have predicted the same thing when they saw the preview for Heart of Gold but how many of them on this podcast called it before season 4 ever began? I have included 3 sound files from previous podcast that prove this fact. I don’t mean to make it all about me, it’s just that I was super hyped that I FINALLY GOT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Average. Some really great scenes but some real stinkers too.

*** This show’s obsession with purity in exactly the wrong way continues to be stupid. The cognitive dissonance just doesn’t make for good television. Maleficent basically revealed that Emma is…a human! Capable of both good and bad acts! WOW! And knowing the bad things Snow and Charming had done, even at that point makes their insistence at being heroes two dimensional. Will Emma really be that mad at them for doing everything they can to protect her from becoming a villian. (I miss the Snow and Charming of Snow Falls)

PS I still love this show

From Chris Tipton

Hello,
I have to sadly say this was a very meh episode to me. Very slow paced and plodding. With that said… My 5 points

*** 5. The reveal of what Snowing did to Maleficent- Im not sure of how i feel about this. I dont know whether to think its super dark or just plain silly. I do feel it was kind of a letdown for the build up, at least so far. Hopefully the more they reveal will make it better. I have issues with what they’re saying about Emma. So she’s basically any human, she has the potential to be good or bad, so does anyone else. And Snow saying if she turns dark, her child will be doomed to that darkness as well. Excuse me?! No child is ever doomed or forced to follow their parents mistakes. That is just ridiculous. Ok, ill get off the soapbox

4. Maleficents resurrection- I felt the way this came about made since and was handled pretty well. Its still pretty convenient and easy that all they needed was her ashes and Snowings blood, but i suppose it is what it is. When she materialized there it was, genuinely scary and makes you worry for the charmings.
Side note, im not digging her horns, as good a job Edwardo Castro usually does, these look cheaply made and leave alot to be desired.

3. Belle and Will…. Wow Doctor, i did not see this coming. So Belle has definitely moved on, and I REALLY, REALLY want to know what happened to Anastasia now. It cant be good.

2. Cruella- She continues to be absolutely Stellar. Her cunning wit and snark easily rivals Regina in my opinion. I love how she calls everyone Darling, sort of a, parallel to Rumples “Dearie”. Some highlights of her: wanting to turn Granny into a fur coat, she wears blood diamonds apparently and she likes charmings looks. Shes by far the best of the 3. Still waiting on Ursula to become interesting at all. I feel like i seem to say this about every new villain, but Cruella is already one of my favorite villains yet. Actually, just for fun, ill rate the villains
1. Cruella
2. Rumple
3. Ingred
4. Pan
5. Cora
6. Zelena
7. Maleficent
8. Ursula
(I don’t count Regina because shes no longer a villain but when she was shes obviously the best, and Greg and Tamara just sucked)

1. Regina and Marco- this was easily my favorite part of an otherwise lackluster episode. Seeing Regina so vulnerable and apologizing like that was so amazing. Shes truly a hero, one of the good guys if you will. I know many fans miss the evil queen but i absolutely adore where she is now. Some of the best character development ive ever witnessed on screen. Marco Giving her August’s stuff was tear-worthy and very exciting!! Can’t wait to see all that was in that satchel

HM-Regina reminiscing about her happiness with Robin was heart breaking. Robin needs to get his hands on that scroll and get back to town

Overused term of the week: witches

Well, after a second watch and writing this feedback, i liked the episode more, but still not great. 7/10 chiseled chins

From Trace

Hello again Colleen and Jeff,

You said you thought it was interesting to hear how we all found your podcast. I heard you and Colleen on a round table on the Once Podcast. Those are a bit hectic to listen to…but you and Colleen stood out to me with your positivity. There’s a lot of haters out in the fandom, so I choose to listen to the few podcasts where I feel the hosts actually love the show like I do, and you and Colleen remain my top faves!!! I, at that time was binge watching Once to get caught up…so I would watch a show, then go listen to your podcast and have loved it since!! I enjoy hearing everyone’s feedback as well. The fans of your podcast are funny, and most of all…positive. I usually end up re-watching the show due to others thoughts that are so interesting! Ok, love fest over for now J

Here are a few of my thoughts for this week: Last week I said I thought Lilly was involved, and now we all know how! I totally agree with both of you that Lilly is the “lost child.” Wow Colleen, I never thought of the baby in utero swap idea though…so interesting of a theory! She has a star tattoo so the father could be the sorcerer because of the stars in the hat? Or the Author because now we know he left clues to his where abouts and maybe the tattoo is a clue for Lilly? But, King Stephen could also be?? Maleficent must have found a way to get Lilly over to this land prior to the curse…or the sorcerer sent her over to save her. Here’s a side note I found interesting…Lilly means pure and innocent. But, her quote unquote foster/adoptive father called her “Lilleth’, which means dark/evil. So, Maleficents’ child (like she said to Snow) has the potential to be very very evil, but very good as well. I think the irony in all of this will be that Snow and Charming did everything in their power to assure that Emma would be “good”, by not doing anything dark. But, all this lying and betrayal is what will send Emma dark now anyway. But, if they would have all just worked together, they could have probably done more good to stop the curse. Kind of like now…it seems to me that EVERYONE is on the same side-they just don’t realize it yet…they all want to find the author and get the happy endings. If the hero’s and villians would team up for once…imagine what they could accomplish!

So, I think I just used all my time on that story arc, there was way too much good stuff in this episode. I can’t not add though how great the acting was this week by all, and OMG Belle and Will!!!! Ol’ Rump is not going to like this at all!

Hope you feel better Jeff-Big love to all the Oncer’s out there…this is going to be sooooooooooooooo good!!! Talk to ya all next week. Trace

From Chris Tipton

I have a theory that maybe Maleficents childs father may be king Stephan. This would definitely be a once style twist on the original story.

From Katie

Hi, Jeff and Colleen!

I have enjoyed this season so far!
I think that Snow and Charming should have told Emma the truth. Lily could be Maleficent’s daughter, especially since it’s been hinted that she will be in another episode.
I think Henry will find out who the writer is in a couple more episodes. Have a great week!

Katie

From Brad

Good day darlings! Here are the things I learned this week in the episode, Unforgiven.

#1. If you want to keep Henry
happy, make sure those
chocolate donuts are frosted!

#2. Sometimes that 2:38 in the
morning whiskey is the only
thing that will help.

#3. Rushing Granny is a very bad
idea and will only prolong your
misery.

#4. After six whole months outside
of Storybrooke, Gold still
does not posses the most
powerful object our world has
to offer, a smart phone!

#5. A car full of parking
violations and a glovebox
stocked with gin is perfectly
acceptable when Sheriff
chiseled chin pulls you over.

#6. In the highly debated hot top
of french fries vs onion rings,
Emma is pro rings.

#7. As long as Belle and her
extraordinary inventory skills
are around, Will’s thieving days
may be over.

#8. The Charming’s would have
made great villains with their
lying skills. Ursalla and
Cruella should take note.

#9. After all the curses in
Storybrooke, not one person
thought of maybe weaving
in some IMacs for everyone.

#10. Emma’s needs a new super
power because her old one is
about as reliable as Sleepy on
guard duty.

The Golden Bird story has struck again!

Hello Jeff and Colleen!

First I would like to say that I am a long time listener and fan of your podcast and I can’t WAIT till you are back on so I can listen.. your shows are are one of my favorites to listen to. 🙂 Thank you so much for doing them 🙂

The reason why I am writing is that some friends of mine and I have launched a CS T-shirt charity campaign and we are doing our best to get the word out to help raise not only money for this charity but also awareness of something that is prevelant in our time but never really focused on as it should be…suicide awareness.

We have designed a beautiful CS T-Shirt to sell as a T-shirt, tank or hoodie to help raise money for them:
https://represent.com/captain-swan-charity-campaign-for-sosad

The charity SOSAD(Save Our Sons And Daughters) is an Ireland-registered suicide prevention charity and that Colin O’Donoghue supports and all the proceeds from this campaign go directly to them

www.sosadireland.ie

This group has 6 locations, including Colin’s hometown of Drogheda.
The charity’s five main goals are to raise awareness of suicide in Ireland, break the taboo surrounding suicide, provide support and direction to those feeling suicidal, provide support and direction to those approached by someone feeling suicidal, and to provide support and direction for those bereaved by suicide.
It’s a great cause to support. The need to help those who can’t help themselves has become more prevalent everyday around the world.

Our campaign will end on March 21st.

Sincerely Giennie D

Thank you for alerting me that there was a book of 101 Dalmatians. I’m reading now. Cruella’s hubby is indeed in it, and Cruella mentions that she made him change his last name to hers. Love it!

From Aubrey

I think there is a small small chance that the author is Henry in the future writing down everyone’s stories because he knows them all and sends the book back in time or something to himself, so that he can believe and help Emma believe. But that probably is way off.

Email points:

Nice to see Snow doubting people, it’s refreshing for her character, *instead of* giving them a second chance.

The Chernabog was after Emma because of her potential for evil, interesting, most be tying to the theme of what really makes a villain and what is good and evil. Interesting how Snow and Charming threatened Ursula and Cruella! I really want to know what happened in the enchanted forest!

Chris

I just have to say, as a big disney and fantasia fan, the reveal that the dark curse came from Bald Mountain was one of my favorite reveals so far in the show, and Chernabog was awesome!! Also Victoria Smurfit is killing it as Cruella… Spot on!! (see what i did there?) Awesome episode, 8.5/10 clucks

Trace

Hi Colleen and Jeff, (ladies first sir J),

Great to have you back for the season return…like a comfy blanket on long cold day!

Here are some of my thoughts. I loved this return! They answered some questions and gave us some fun new stuff. Oh…Colleen, the old curse (Regina’s) was that you lose memories when you cross the line, this new curse is that you can’t come back once you leave, (Ingrid’s curse), but you do remember who you are, I remember you asking in the last podcast…

Hero’s going dark, villains trying to be good…sounds cool to me! Very OUAT to flip the script so I think it will be very interesting…seeing Regina be the moral compass over the Charming’s was great! This is some secret for them to break character, it will cause mistrust with Emma and help turn her to the dark side I think. I have a straaaange feeling that Lilly is somehow involved in all this-but I don’t know how. I can’t wait!

Cruella is the best! How great was her green breath power??? Just like the movie with her green cigarette smoke…thought that was brilliant! Love her one-liners, but Regina asking “how a plate of uncooked calamari got the dark ones cell phone” was priceless!

A couple things did make me go hmmmm…WHY DID THEY LET THEM KEEP THE SCROLL? You do want your boyfriend back right? Kind of convenient and we need some scroll rules for sure. Ladies, always be sure to check for sneaky black smoke that releases evil devil dogs that seek the heart of potential darkness!! J Blue is still very evasive. She knows more and I think she will end up as being someone very important when this whole show ends. Why didn’t they ask her what’s going on in the hat? No one was curious? Hook is so upset about sucking the apprentice in there, but never asked about him?

Last. I hope that all 3 of these villainesses don’t end up dying this season. I would like to see some true redemption. Does Rumpel ever have a consequence? Ugh…I hope he doesn’t get the dagger back…I want Regina to have control over the dagger-she is the only trust worthy one there right now, how ironic!

Can’t wait to see how this all starts playing out…looking like a great 4B!! Big Love to both of you and all the Oncer’s listening-ttya next week! Trace

From Brad

Hi guys, it’s great to have the show back and to hear the podcast again. I hope life is treating you well and that you both are having a cluckidy cluck cluck day! Now, unto the things I learned this week on the episode, Darkness on the Edge of Town.

#1. Halitosis and Cruella go great
together.

#2. Henry will never win the
perfect attendance award for
his school.

#3. Make sure you stock up on
Ramen when the Dark One
comes to visit.

#4. Why go through the annoying
hassle of using your hands to
remove pictures off the wall,
when you can just burn them
off.

#5. There is a good possibility that
Snow consumed alcoholic
beverages while on the job as
mayor.

#6. De Vil’s driving instructor must
have accepted bribes.

#7. The “E” word should not be
thrown around flippantly.

#8. Getting the smell of fish out of
your dress is one of the many
hardships of being a fairy tale
character.

#9. There is no redemption for a
dwarf named Evil-y.

#10. Anton has finally made a
name for himself outside of
Storybrooke.

Jeff and Colleen’s thoughts:

How did Pan/The Lost Boys communicate with Greg and Tamara? How did He/They deliver the “communicator”? How did they know to light a signal fire?

How did Greg and Tamara know where Neverland was? According to Neal, if you think of a place you go there. How did they know?

Tamara was surprised they made it. I would assume they’ve never made that or any trip through the portal. Who taught them about portal travel?

The Charming family seem to be pulling apart, but the more dastardly and dashing characters are working together more easily.

Bae’s Sword. Did Hook teach him to fight?

Can Team 7 or Mother Superior somehow send some pixie dust to Henry? To give them a way to escape?

Mermaids seem to be the first line of defense of the Neverland island.

How kooky is it that all the exposition from Greg and Tamara about The Home Office led to it to be revealed and now (it seems) nullified?

Rumpel referred to Pan the way most people referred to Rumpel (Especially Regina, “There’s always something more with you”)

Wizard of Oz – Crystal Ball

Will Emma rescue all the Lost Boys (as she connects with him as an orphan), or just Henry?

Will our heroes have to complete games to gain control over Pan and escape the island?

Rumpel’s connection to Neverland. Collecting babies.

Jeff and Colleen,

My friend and I were talking last night after the premiere and we had a thought about peter pan and his shadow and would like to get your thoughts on our theory. We were wondering, since there is a human pan now, why does the shadow get the kids and not the boy? We thought that even peter is trapped because Wendy said once you step foot on neverland you cannot leave, but maybe your shadow can? Please let us know what you think. Thanks.

From Lorie

I don’t know why I didn’t catch this last season, but the thought just occurred to me and is really bothering me.  Hopefully someone will have some insight for me.

We know that until Emma arrived and decided to stay, the clock didn’t move.  toward the end of season 2, it showed Regina walking through town and the day kept playing itself over and over with no real changes.  So, I guess we are to assume that these characters were stuck in the same day for 28 years.  Now to the part that bothers me.  We know that at some point before Emma arrived, Mary Margerete and Dr Whale had a fling, Dr Hopper was treating Henry and he would not have started that when henry first arrived.  it had to be at some point later in time.  also, we know that at some time in the 28 years, Red tried to leave, but Granny had a heart attack.

so did time really stand still and repeat itself over and over, like groundhog day.  Or did their lives go on during this 28 years, its just that they didn’t really change much?

Really looking forward to the new season.  Have missed the podcast.

Lorie

From Holly

Hey Jeff and Colleen,

I have to say that I really enjoyed the season opener for Once Upon A Time. There were so many great scenes in this episode that I’ll only touch on a few of them. Loved the scenes in Enchanted Forest with Mulan, Phillip, Aurora, and Neal. Nice to see that Neal made it through the portal okay. Though if I were Neal I don’t know if I wouldn’t have been saying that I was Rumpelstiltskin’s son right away. Cool that Rumpelstiltskin hid a few of his magical items in the Dark Castle and that they could only be found by Neal. Though I am wondering how Neal knew about the Dark Castle. Maybe Rumple told him about it off screen while they were in Storybrooke, or Neal heard about it from others during his travels. Greg and Tamara didn’t last too long in Neverland.  Be careful who you work for and like Henry said, you need to ask more questions. Tamara actually thinking that Rumple would forgive her for what she did to his son was wishful thinking. So glad the two of them are gone. The scenes between Henry and Pan were bone chilling. When the Lost Boys were circling around Henry with Pan, I was so hoping that Rumple would have shown up and did his best Molly Weasley impersonation/ improvisation of  not my Grandson….. Colleen, I agree with you about how cruel Pan’s games will be. I’m hoping not too cruel. I’ll wrap it up here. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts and everyone elses.

Give Lady a treat from me.

Big Love to everybody.

Holly from Wisconsin

From Maii

Just listened to the first thoughts on 3×01.. and first of all thank you for not hating on Hook… I’ve had to stop listening to some podcasts bc of their excessive Hook bashing..
Just want to point out some things

One thing you mentioned Hook looks at Emma like a daughter, yeah I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure if a dad looked at a daughter like that it would be highly incestuous but he does care about her. No one can deny that (no matter how much they want to)  just look at the way he looks when she’s talking:
1. The scene with rumple and Emma- Killian looks murderous and worried
2. The almost drowning, He looks terrified and then he looks relieved when she woke up
3. When he is talking about the happy ending he looks directly at where Emma is sitting when he’s done talking
4. The scene with the drinks, he knew she needed closure, and that she would be all in knots about Rumple’s words so he went to cheer her up.
5. Her speech at the end he looks seriously impressed and his “I quite fancy you from time to time when you’re not yelling at me” is a way of stating his feelings after she almost died. (Emma almost died in the same spot Milah died)
& Bae did go to our world when he fell in the portal, he ended up with the Darlings then sacrificed himself for Wendy’s brothers and that’s how he ended up in Neverland.

Your podcast is wonderful and I really enjoy it keep up the good work.
Maii

From Brad

Hello Jeff and Colleen, it’s great to have the podcast back!
Here’s the list of things I learned from this weeks episode, The Heart of the Truest Believer.
#1. Henry was born at 8:15.
#2. The electrical surge after Henry’s birth would suggest he is magical too.
#3. Sand is not an effective replacement for batteries.
#4. Neverland is the Motherload of magic.
#5. Rumpelstiltskin always finds time for a wardrobe change.
#6. Snow and Charming are Infuriating optimistic.
#7. Neverland is a place where imaginations run wild.
#8. Sharks and whales and kraken’s, oh my! Have nothing on Mermaids.
#9. Hook fancy’s Emma when she’s not yelling at him.
#10. Portals take you wherever you think.
#11. Mulan and Aurora are much more likeable than the first season.
#12. Robin Hood had a major face transplant since the last time we saw him.
#13. It doesn’t take much for Aurora to give up.
#14. It is much easier to get someone to hate something than to believe
#15. Evil Peter Pan and Felix are amazingly wicked!

P.S. I really thought the music from Mark Isham this week was great!
