Ustream Troubleshooting Guide

Hi there. First off, thanks for joining us for our Once Upon a Time Fan Podcast live show. You are here, because you are having issues listening, chatting or both. As much as we love technology and how it can bring us together, there can be issues along the way. Here are some times that *should* resolve your issues.

If you are on a computer;

We have had a number of listeners tell us that Chrome (a Google version of an internet browser). We suggest that you download Chrome and use it to listen and chat during the live show. The link to download Chrome is here: https://www.google.com/chrome

Extra Tip: Ustream plays ads on the screen a certain points of the live show broadcast. It is very cost prohibitive for us to turn the ads off for all the listeners ($99 a month for 100 ad-free hours).

There are a few options;

Inexpensive – Each listener can pay Ustream $3.99 a month to remove the ads and have other perks (https://www.ustream.tv/premium-membership-management/overview),
Free – We understand there is an ad-block add-on that can be added to Chrome to block the ads from being played. Keep in mind, that blocking ads on Ustream could block other ads or windows in other areas you visit.

General tips:
1. If you are having issues, we recommend first – refreshing, or logging off and back on, or switching to or from the Ustream site to http://live.onceuponatimepodcast.com,
2. Note: The speed and reliability of your internet connection will affect your live show experience,
3. Note: If you are connected to the internet below a high-speed, broadband connection (dial up), this could affect your live show experience,
4. Note: If your computer has spyware, viruses, or other CPU draining programs running, this could affect your live show experience. It is always good to maintain your computer with basic maintenance steps. We do not know your particular situation (Computer, Operating system, RAM size, etc), and cannot recommend specific steps. We recommend contacting someone knowledgeable in your area (family, friend, etc) to assist if you have specific questions,

If you are using an IPad/Iphone (or other Smartphone devices) Listening/Chatting during the Live Show;

Even though the Ipad, Iphone or other Smartphones are powerful devices, they need enough bandwidth to all the listener to enjoy all the parts of the Live Show.

If your device is connected via a 3G wireless connection, it is almost a foregone conclusion that you will experience issues like; skipping sound, no sound, the inability to chat and more. If you notice that you are connected via 3G, we suggest that you connect via a computer (with a high speed connection) or find and connect using a Wi-Fi connection,

If you device is connected via a Wi-Fi wireless connection, you *shouldn’t* have any issues,

General tips:
1. You should close down all apps that may be running in the background of your iPhone before joining the live show: http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-completely-close-out-running-applications-new-iphone-ios-4-377560/,
2. You may need to log out and back into the Ustream app if you are having issues.

OUAT – UStream 101 for IPhones/IPods/IPads

We wanted to make this to help those who are having difficulty accesing UStream during the live chats on Saturday.

For Apple devices, you first need to make sure you have the Ustream app installed on your phone. We don’t recommend Apple users to go to the OUAT Fan Podcast website and use the widget since PC’s have different settings. It is so much better to use the free UStream app from the ITunes store.

Once you have UStream installed on your Apple device, follow these steps:

When the UStream interface opens, tap “More” at the bottom right corner of the screen. It will open a page with the following options – Alerts, Favorites, My Broadcast and Settings. Tap “Settings” and it will will bring you to the page below:

It is advisable to create a UStream account, but you prefer you can also use your Facebook or Twitter accounts if you opt to not make one for Ustream. Just Select which account you will use, and slide the tab to switch it on. It will lead you to a page where you enter your account information then tap log in.

Once you are signed in, you will see this page that will allow you to search for the OUAT Podcast page. In the search bar, just type “ouatpodcast”.

Tap on the OUAT Podcast channel, and it will direct you to the media and chat room where you can listen to the podcast and chat with other Oncers.

When the podcast is finished, tap “Done” and go back to the “Settings Page” and slide back the switch of the account you used to turn it off. That will sign you out of Ustream.

If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask the deputies. We are always on standby during Saturday shows to help anyone who needs it.

018 FAM OUAT – Packed Chat room, EvilRegals view of the Pilot, Henry’s Adoption and More.

Thank you all who joined us, listened and chatted it up in our new Ustream chatroom! We packed it out, but there’s always room for more. We appreciate all of you!

We read and discuss awesome emails from our awesome listeners, and had a little fun, too. 🙂

Important: If you haven’t rated and reviewed in Itunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/once-upon-a-time-podcast/id480653028. Please help us today. Our goal is 100% listeners subscribed, rate and reviewed. Thank you for your help with this.

Mixlr Issues and the future of Live Shows (That’s Latin for UStream). Not a Joke.

Look, I am a fan of an April Fool’s Joke, but this ain’t it. Promise.

If you have joined us over the last few weeks after the Mixlr revamp of their site and widget for the live shows, it has been difficult. I’m sorry about it. I know it’s not my fault, but I’m still sorry about it.

Going forward, I’d like to propose 2 things;

1. Assist Mixlr in resolving their issues. Please take some time and email support@mixlr.com with information on what issues you experienced during the live show on 3/31. I would include;

What did you use to connect to Mixlr (iphone, Computer, Operating System (Windows, Apple), Twitter login, Email login, Facebook login, etc)?
If you had trouble even logging in, let them know the specifics about that, please.
If you experienced loss of sound, give specifics of that (was it once in awhile, stuttering sound, loss until you had to log in again, etc)
If you experienced locking up, freezing, etc.

Please give them all the information you can. We do want to help them resolve the issues we are having. I know it may be alot of work, but the more information we can give them, the better they can resolve the issues.

IN THE MEANTIME —

As of 4/7 we will be trying UStream (Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ustream).
Cons;

They do play ads. I don’t choose the ads.

Pros;

It’s been around a long time, and I believe many of the issues have been ironed out.
The chat has moderators.
There is a Viewing app for almost all Smartphones: http://www.ustream.tv/everywhere
The sound is good.
The versatility for (very good) “surprises” that could occur during a live show, so I’m happy about that.

The same:
You need to setup a free login account to chat. I would ask that you would set one up today, please (This will save time and confusion on live show day). We will take a hard look at the built in chat and see if it meets our needs.

I will be placing the widget on the http://live.onceuponatimepodcast.com

We *may* do a test show in the next few days to see how it goes before Saturday, so keep an eye on @ouatpodcast
