My theory is Henry going to be the one to guard the sorceress hat

From Maii

The Emma and Hook date

We know that Emma always wears her jacket as her own personal armor.
She wore the leather dress with Walsh for that one reason: it was an extension of her armor
Tonight she wore soft pink because she wanted to be close to Killian she wanted romance and love.

He gave her his jacket.
Because she is his girl yes and because now she had a new armor: him.
Because he will protect her.
And she let him in under her walls and protection

The Rumpel and Hook situation

(Also Rumple is enslaving Killian the same way Zelena enslaved him)

Jeff’s thought – Rumpel used Hook’s love for Emma to entrap him to serve him. Hook was trying to do the right thing, but it ended up being the wrong thing at the hand of Rumpel. Now that decision can jeopardize what he’s wanted – to be with Emma.

– The tape

I was just thinking of something.. Killian saw Rumple “magically erasing” the tape… It might be a longshot but do you think that’s going to call back to Zelena’s murder and Gold magically erasing that tape as well?

Honestly I think the hand was cursed and he did it so he could back Killian into a corner. Because Killian has changed and it’s just like Rumple to do this.. Also this is also the hand he had growing up, the hand that was a lieutenant, he was not a bad person when the hand was taken. It was afterwards that he became a villain. So yeah the hand was definitely cursed, and I think the video is definitely a fake.

Look at the man’s house, it was in the middle of nowhere, I don’t really think he would have a security system, and Emma knows Killian why would he attack an innocent old man?

Jeff’s thought – Maybe Hook can convince Emma to use her superpower to divine the truth from Rumpel.

Honestly I think Rumple was completely lying about the parents, I don’t think they were afraid of her or wanted to take her magic away but rather a way to control her magic. The dark one lies, the dark one tricks.

I definitely think Rumple is going to or went after Kristoff because Anna didn’t specify his name and I think Rumple and the Snow Queen will team up and do something to Anna or to Kristoff to put Elsa against them, but it won’t work bc Elsa knows her sister. But I do think the Snow Queen and Rumple had a hand in Anna/Kristoff being missing while Elsa got trapped in the urn.

More Parallels

The Missing Year my friend, AKA when Hook lost his love by being transported against his will into another realm, shortly after getting hope for a happy ending with her. He then gave up being a hero and tried to revert to his old lawbreaking lifestyle, but it wasn’t enough and he ended up being miserable and drunk all the time despite trying to act like he didn’t care.

…Until he received a sign that a reunion was possible, at which point he gave everything up on the chance to be reunited with her.

This is Red Knave’s missing year equivalent – and though Will isn’t exactly at the “love is nothing but endless torment” stage, well… actually he already went there in OUATIW canon. I’m not saying being separated from Ana is the only reason Will’s here or anything, but this parallel seems really big. I mean, add in what you already pointed out with Emma looking like Ana on her date, and Killian’s modern clothes being a lot like Will’s, and there’s no doubt these parallels are intentional.

And Emma will be the one to help give Will hope for a reunion and to listen to his better instincts and be his better (true) self.

One more thing

Also a final note: Did you notice the bartender looks like Tony from Lady and the Tramp?

From Marilyn

Hi Jeff and Colleen
Has it ever been established as to where Hook has been staying since he returned sans the Jolly Roger? With Emma’s “I really need to get my own place” line, it started me wondering as to where Hook calls home in Storybrooke.

Hook really should have known that nothing good ever comes out of making a deal with Rumple, especially when he threatened to ruin Rumple’s relationship to Belle, more than once. Now he is stuck dancing to Rumple’s tune after he made one too many empty threats and falling for Rumple’s mind games regarding that re-attached hand.

I am wondering if they are going to be somewhat following the plot of the original Sorcerer’s Apprentice in Fantasia? If that is so then it is possible that Henry, while going undercover at the pawnshop, will somehow stumble across the magical hat, put it on with good intentions, then have mayhem ensue when the magic that is then released gets out-of-hand as it did for Mickey.

From Brad

Give in to your temptation and turn up the heat, “DO IT!”.
Good day Jeff and Colleen, here are the things I learned this week on the episode, The Apprentice.

1). Mr. Gold is a hoarder of limbs.

2). Sometimes it takes a little
blackmail to bring out the

3). The reality of how Mickey Mouse
really became a star.

4). Reindeer can pout.

5). Emma better call the Marine
Garage because her car is leaking
some serious fluids.

6). Despite being turned human in
Storybrooke, Lady and the Tramp
haven’t lost their spark.

7). There’s nothing like a Polaroid!

8). The apprentice serves child free

9). When you’re a sheriff, even a few
libations could lead to trouble.

10). Emma is finally experiencing all
the joys that come with living
with your parents.

Emma: “There’s no sign of that ice witch yet”. This is the first instance that the Snow Queen has been referred to as a witch. Also, both Mary Margaret and Rumpelstiltskin used the phrase, “speaking of which” in this episode.

I love Will and his lines are great but his personality isn’t meshing with the rest of the people in Storybrooke yet. He and Alice played well off each other because they had real chemistry together. She got his humor and knew how to talk to him. We know from Wonderland that he keeps to himself so someone in Storybrooke will need to befriend him before he opens up. Having him hold the picture of the red queen made me realize how much I want to see Anastasia again. There could be some great storytelling by incorporating her into the show. We need some more good guys with magic on the show since the reformed Dark One is slipping.

The radio station call letters were
W-O-L-F 98, home of the original party animals. The DJ said the previous song was Left of the Dial by the Replacements. I thought the chorus was appropriate for the situation Hook and Rumple were in.
“On and on and on and on
What side are you on?”

Rip Van Winkle was mentioned by the radio announcer. He was looking for something classic to wake up to.

On the radio we also heard the slogan of Granny’s diner, “It’s better than you remember”.

Rumple even changed his voice as Palpatine does when he said “Do it!”

Again, we get a glimpse of Thor’s hammer in the background of Rumpel’s castle.

Mr. Gold had an amazing redemptive arc in the first half of season 3 but ever since he was brought back to life and held captive by Zelena, it’s almost like it never happened. The scene at Neal’s grave and the countless “I want to be a better man” speeches to Belle sound like a broken record. The previous seasons he’s been motivated by finding his son and changing for Belle but now he’s disrespecting his son’s sacrifice, starting his marriage with a lie and refusing to offer his help to anyone in town. He has become a person who wants ultimate power with no restrictions, for his own personal gain. All of his character development has been thrown out the window as he is now just a typical villain who is no longer relatable. The argument could be made that he was changed after he resurrected or that all of the dark ones have encapsulated his body, drowning out the changed man. Although I do like this explanation, we have seen nothing to bring us to this conclusion. Showing that Rumple wanted the hat in the past as well seems to give evidence that this is all him. Very discouraging to see him this way after all the work he had done to be a better man. If all you want is a cliché evil villain, it looks like you got your wish. Belle deserves so much better.

Speaking of Belle, she only had 10 words in this episode. With everything Gold is doing it’s disappointing that there isn’t a greater storyline going on between both of them. I know Emilie de Ravin is shooting a new movie called the Submarine Kid and this could be why they are underusing her and not writing her into a great storyline, then again, this could be the reason why she is working on another project. I really hope her fate is not the same as Meghan Ory, Jamie Dornan and Sebastian Stan. Letting them all go was a real missed opportunity. I know there is a Belle centered episode coming up but this is the same thing they did with Ruby. She would get a full episode to herself and then a couple lines here and there. I know we all would rather have it proportioned out through the whole season instead of just one full episode.

Here is a man who is generally trying to be a good guy. Rumple who is ‘claiming’ he wants to be a better man has to be blackmailed just to help Elsa, (Where was Belle, by the way, to convince him?) Maybe Hook took it a little too far when we tried to blackmail him to put his hand back on but Rumple killed Milah so any bad blood between them should be gone. Giving him his hand back but making him believe it had been cursed was Gold just being a (insert your derogatory comment here). He did the same thing to Regina when she was trying to change. He’s that little devil on your shoulder and if he can’t be a better man, he’s going to make sure that nobody else can either.

I’ve seen tons of jaw dropping CGI in my day, (not on Once Upon A Time sadly), but when that broom starting walking with it’s little hands moving from side to side like it was on mission, I was awestruck. I felt like a little kid again, seeing a cartoon character come to life for the first time. Plus having the music play along with it was great! All it needed was a bucket of water and my day would have been made.

I love Frozen but I’m getting a little burned out on all the references. A couple are fine but when is it too much? They have me saying out loud, “We get it, you’re doing Frozen”. They need to concentrate more on character development and less on trying to figure out where they can fit the Frozen line in this week.

I read a Facebook post a couple weeks ago that read if you rearrange the letters in Sydney’s name, you get Yen Sid. It is a strange coincidence, especially since Sydney happens to be back this season. What do these writers have up their sleeve for him?

I still hold to my original theory that the Sorcerer is the author of the book. Especially after seeing the apprentice this week and adding more mystery to his identity. I’ve heard that finding the books author will be stretched out over both halves of the season, instead of having two different storylines like last year. A villain who tries to give himself a happy ending while still acting in his evil ways like Rumple, needs to be stopped by a powerful author. The Sorcerer fits this role perfectly. Also, I love the idea of having a good sorcerer who is just as powerful or possibly more powerful than the Dark One. At this point, I want to see the defeat of snarky, manipulative, self serving Mr. Gold. I want the winter finale Gold back.

I have nothing to back this up, but what if the last name Swan somehow came from Sarah Fisher. It has never been explained how Emma received this last name. We know Neal gave her a necklace of a swan but it is not confirmed that she went by that last name because of it. She could have already had the name and that’s why he gave her the necklace.

Since the apprentice said “Every Dark One has tried and everyone has failed”, it would seem this hat is common knowledge between all the Dark One’s. Could this be because the sorcerer, being a dark one himself at one time, now possesses the hat? What if he refused to be the Dark One any longer and faced his inner darkness and succeeded. Being made pure, he would be released from the daggers control and now be the rightful owner and guardian of the most powerful hat in the universe. I believe that only a truly good man can wield and possess the power of the hat. Gold may be able to activate it but he won’t be able to control it. Just as Mickey couldn’t in Fantasia.

Does magic still come with a price when you possess the hat?

10 Things to do during the Once Upon a Time 2014 Summer hiatus

As we ponder what chilly trouble Elsa will bring to Storybrooke, what else can a Oncer do while we wait for Season 4 to being? Here are some ideas;

image (18)

1. Rewatch the Once Upon a Time series. It’s great to go back and revisit Storybrooke, Boston, The Enchanted Forest, New York, again for the “first time”. Even though we know where a series is at the end of Season 3, it’s fun to see where things started and see how things all connect together (so far).

2. See and hopefully get a chance to meet and get a picture or autograph from an OUAT cast member at a convention (hopefully) near you: http://www.onceuponatimepodcast.com/cast2014

3. Enter the world of Cosplay: http://cosplaytutorial.com/index.php

4. Visit the town where Once Upon a Time is filmed. Note: There are no guarantees that you will see any filming, but if you are lucky and do, it is very, very cool. Note: Steveston is a lovely town and the people there are even lovelier, even if there is no OUAT filming going on.

5. Listen to Disney, Once Again Podcast during the Once Upon a Time hiatus http://www.onceuponatimepodcast.com/disneyonceagain

6. Try your hand at some great apple recipes http://allrecipes.com/recipes/fruits-and-vegetables/fruits/apples/

7. Watch what Mr. Gold would watch, if he had a Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, that is Pawn Stars on the History Channel

8. Buy the Season 3 OUAT Blu Rays/DVDs when they go on sale on August 19th per http://www.ksitetv.com/castle/abc-studios-announces-dvd-release-dates-box-art/33012

Blog (http://onceuponatimepodcast.com):

Onto the subject of Cora. I think I might be in the minority here, but I actually do kinda of feel bad for her. I’ve been discussing back and forth with some others, and just don’t think people really understand the severity of Cora’s personal life. I know that giving her child away perhaps wasn’t the best thing to do, but I’ve been thinking, and really what kind of life would Zelena had had if Cora kept her? Cora herself seemed to be just barely making it, she even asked Johnathon to at least give her enough money to take care of the child. I believe that Cora would have kept Zelena under normal circumstances, otherwise why ask for financial support so that she can properly care for her.

Ultimately what I’m trying to say is that a lot of hatred for past Cora is unwarranted. Sure hate older Cora because she was just an evil woman who couldn’t feel because she had no heart, but young Cora was just a young girl looking for a way out of a horrible life, and made some bad decisions along the way, and I can’t really hate her for that.

OH! And also, I have a theory about the time travel Zelena plans to do, which may or may not happen. So Zelena is under the belief that Regina just had everything handed to her, that her sister just lived this amazing life, but we all know that isn’t true. If Zelena goes back in time, is it possible that she will witness the events that have unfolded over the span of Regina’s life and come to realize that Regina did not have it nearly as easy as she once had thought, and dare I say become more sympathetic toward her sister? Just a thought, we shall see how this all plays out

Hi Jeff and Colleen,

First off, I think I speak for all your listeners in saying – thank you both for your great podcast.

What a great episode. We had resolution on many questions, Henry’s memory, the whereabouts of the book, who sent the note and potion to Hook, who cast the Dark Curse, and what can stop Zelena. We also met Glinda, and learned the importance of Zelena’s emerald pendant. Talk about a full episode, but it never felt forced or rushed.

But truly this episode was about Snow and Charming’s love. From the snowbell flower moment, to Charming’s sacrifice, to Snow pleading with Regina to take and split her heart. Snow pleading to Regina was so similar to when she was a little girl and was pleading at her mother’s bedside for her not to die. Yup, this episode has some heart felt moments.

So we see Moe’s Game of Thorns flower truck, Zelena with a red rose, Charming and Snow with snowbell flowers, and Henry placing a red rose on his dad’s headstone. I’m open to any thoughts as to why the use of flowers in this episode?

The “purveyor of the strongest light magic” can stop Zelena. Well, I love Emma, but me thinks this job will fall to….Regina. She now has a family and true love. I believe that once she gets her heart (which I believe will now be red), she will be powerful enough to stop Zelena.

So Regina’s comment to Robin about “wait till I have my heart.” Is that a foreshadow. Maybe that’s why the last hour of the finale will be later in the evening (bow chicka wow wow).

Hello guys hope you’ve had a lovely week! This episode and I have a love hate relationship I loved it yet hated the end (and still loved the end bc angst)

Rumple was perfect this episode

You failed you failed failed failed failed failed failed failed did I mention you failed?

Outlaw queen:

I love and adore outlaw queen and the fact that they were acting like teenagers. And I do love their scenes in the lost year bc he does not back down. She is snarky at him and he snarks right back. Plus the face he makes when Snow takes his side is priceless.

Some people say it’s happening too fast that Regina is getting everything too easy but I trust A&E are doing this for a reason. Regina didn’t think she was capable of love, of a soulmate, of being happy. I really think that for now we’re going to be seeing a happy Regina in regards to her love life. She needs to feel what it’s like to have that love and be cherished in that way. I think the drama for them is next season.

The couples on this show have a clear path

Snowing- angst then happiness
Captain Swan – slowest slow burn to ever slow burn then happiness (I predict is coming in the finale)
Rumbelle – angst angst angst angst happiness angst angst angst (poor bbs)
Outlaw Queen- happiness then angst (then prob happiness again)

Why? Because Regina is going to have to fight for her love now that she knows she can have love. That it is possible.

Snowing (I apologize for any cursing that might occur I do love snowing)

First in the past:

While that scene broke my heart and made me cry and the end result was extremely cheesy but adorable and I loved it and I love Regina’s role in all that.. Let’s look at the plan itself.

First I’m kind of po’ed that they hadn’t thought of Emma until they needed her, like oh look you do have another kid right. The plan itself was actually kind of stupid. Cursing the land again? How where you going to get Emma if you were cursed? Don’t you recall that you couldn’t actually leave Storybrooke and this time Regina would be cursed too so she wouldn’t be able to leave either? I love all 3 of you but I have a feeling not one of you was thinking straight.

I don’t think they were putting up an act honestly I think it just proves that Snow was waiting for him to mess up. She’s never given him a chance or anything along those lines.

A friends tags on the GIFSET of the scene in the ep with the scene of him telling them he ASSUMED it was from them say it all.

Snow’s look is so condescending I want to punch a wall. There is a part of me that tries to remember Emma is her daughter and they are going to be wary of anyone who so much as looks at her add to the fact that yes Hook messed up and I want to tell myself to calm down. but ************** she’s never given him a chance#and she was all aboard the Neal train even though that ****** was the reason for all of Emma’s trust issues#so that’s never sat well with me#fast forward to now I feel like she’s just been waiting for him to mess up#she jumped at this chance#and it makes me mad okay#because snow freaking white sees the good in everyone and everything#but for some reason#she refuses to open her eyes when it comes to this man#she’s so quick to disregard him#to think the worst#and it really rubs me the wrong way#makes me wants to ********** punch a wall#and sit Snow (and Charming) down#and knock a little damn sense into them#and I say all of this with love#because I truly do like both of them

You can sort of understand Charming and Emma bc they are the same they are punch first then punch again then ask questions and Charming came in at the end of their convo. He’s an overprotective father but still this man is his friend and they didn’t even let him explain himself

What stood out to me the most is Jennifer Morrison’s expressions

Right when everyone starts yelling at him about the message and he defends himself; Jennifer Morrison portrayed this moment astoundingly because she made sure viewers could see Emma’s perplexity through her expressions. You could see that she feels terrible because she realizes she was too harsh with him and now everyone’s pointing fingers at him. She’s thinking about her words and the intensity of them, and realizing she didn’t mean it.

In the next cut to her face you could really see the way Morrison subtly plays Emma’s guilt — she says it all with her eyes. Emma does trust him. She’s just angry, scared, and she acted on impulse (just as Killian did with Henry). They’re kindred, they understand each other, and they know the other’s intentions incredibly well. She sees the honesty in his defense because she’s lived it. He found her, saved her, and she knows that he’s telling the truth — regardless of who sent the message he did exactly what they told him too: he brought her home. She knows that’s a selfless act no one else has done for her. She’s both frustrated and apologetic. Again, she knows this man’s heart and where he’s coming from, but a disappointment from him is the worst because he’s her person. Even before Walsh, Killian’s the first man she’s trusted in a long time, thus one little thing sets her back because of how much he truly means to her. There’s a noted saying that states it’s often easier to get mad at those we’re closest to because we know they’ll always be there. Even with her walls up high, she knows he’s there — a lot of times it’s her fears, years of loneliness, and traumatic past that speak for her instead of her heart. Point being, she sees that she’s hurt him and she’s not okay with that. And come next week, these two will be back to normal.

Neal Cassidy everybody, I’ve been hard on him from time to time but damn moments like this remind me why I loved him (and how he honestly was the only one thinking with his brain in the past)

…Till I got a message…
…We didn’t send you any message…
…For getting Emma the message to come back…
…I came back to save YOU…
Hook didn’t even realize that Neal was thanking him for doing what he knew he would and could do…which was to find Emma and bring her back. Yes, Neal doesn’t remember in these scenes when he’s thanking him, but before the curse, he knew that this would ultimately save his family. Hook thinks he’s just thanking him for helping Emma, not realizing that Neal was the one that sent the message. Neal KNEW when he was sending the potion, that Hook would save her because of his love for Emma. It’s almost like Neal is trusting the love of his life to be with Killian. He knows they’re true love. Why else would he send it to Hook?

In the first episode we saw him Neal got a message saying that the curse was broken that he could go get Emma, but he didn’t. Here you have Neal sending a message to Killian telling him to go find Emma because he knows that this man can fnid her and save her. He is not trying to find the Charmings or anyone else, it’s Killian Jones, because this is true love and even Neal has an idea that this is it and he’s the only one who can find Emma. Do what he couldn’t do because unlike him, Killian can find her. The first pigeon told him the curse was broken, the other one was sent to tell Killian about the new curse so he could save Emma. Neal did great here because he gave Emma her best chance by sending her her true love after her,

Captain swan

This “fight” between Captain Swan is so good for them because it’ll once and for all prove that Killian’s actions are always in favor of Emma’s happiness. And even though telling her would’ve been the right thing, she’ll understand why he was as conflicted and frightened as he was — kissing him this time will be about trusting him with her mind, body, and soul. She still trusts him, she’s merely upset, and when she reflects on things she’ll see his side with the realization that he’s trying to protect her the way she was trying to protect Henry. He wasn’t giving her the full story because he believed it was best. She’ll see that she’s not only his true love but that both her and Henry’s happiness are his number one priority.

Scene I: ”We have to wait for Hook”. All that needs to be said about this is that Killian’s family — surprise surprise and it’s adorable that Emma’s the one who says it because he’s her partner.

Scene II: Hook and Henry. While making the decision to assist Henry wasn’t the wisest thing Killian’s done, he acted on impulse and it was still done through pure intentions. He wanted to protect him and momentarily didn’t know any other way but getting him out of Storybrooke — especially since he’s the witch’s first target.

Scene III: Truth Time. Yay. Emma calling Hook Killian again is a gorgeous thing because it’s now something she’s used to, and if you notice, she does say Hook, too. It’s when she’s serious that she uses his real name — it’s a way of changing the tone between them and that’s remarkably telling of how far they’ve come. Additionally when Emma says she can’t trust him, it’s impulsive and momentarily. We’ve all said and done things while upset that we didn’t actually mean. Emma’s well aware of the fact that he’s done everything in the best way he knew how to. By saying she no longer trusts him, she made certain that she already did and if she did once, it won’t be long until she forgives his mistake.

Fundamentally, what this week’s episode did was demonstrate just how alike Killian and Emma are — even more than we’ve thought before. They’re both selfless people who consider things somewhat selfishly —I hope this makes sense— but their intentions don’t come from a malicious place but rather a place of love. And at times, they may think they’re doing the best thing for someone else/themselves, but it’s not always the case. It’s completely normal to have people knock some sense into you. It’s what love does. When one person’s wrong, the other says it. Just like Killian would tell Emma that going to New York wasn’t the best option, she was doing the same by telling him he needed to share the information. The issues they face before their happy ending are entirely natural — they’re learning how to trust one another with even the most difficult situations. Emma’s fears and walls make complete sense, one little thing and she’s going to freak out because she wants to trust him more than anything. If he didn’t mean a great deal to her, she wouldn’t care like this. But he’s her person, she’s going to be even more frightened when something comes from him because her feelings for him are undeniable at this point and they’re constantly growing.

Lastly, the most interesting part of Killian revealing the curse was that he turned it back around to Emma. He didn’t talk about him or his pain or the fact that Zelena did it because of how much he loves her. He substantiated his love for her by uplifting her — making sure she knows that the threat was merely because she’s the most powerful and through that he illuminated his selfless love for her once more. He proved that her happiness is most significant.

Plus Killian’s choices as stupid as they were high parallel season 1 when Emma herself kidnapped Henry and wanted to take him out of Storybrooke. They are both experiencing the moment of doubt (the hero always faces a moment of doubt before coming out on top)

Everything else with the exception of Zelena and Killian’s curse has been resolved so now the focus is going to be on both of those two..

A thing to remember is that CaptainSwan is Adam and Eddy’s baby.. They built them from scratch from their fave fairy tales and they are the couple they have been the most careful with. They give them the promotion both Colin and Jen adore this ship and adore working together. Remember A&E wanted the rights for season 1 but couldn’t get them till season 2 hence why he showed up in season 2.

They recreated Captain Hook with hints of Han Solo and Dreaded Pirate Roberts and gave him the greatest redemption arc on this show (being the first “baddie” to apologize). They’ve been at this since the doctor back in season 2, it was made evident in episodes like Tallahassee and in the name of the brother not to mention the season 2 finale. Then there was Neverland where it was the forefront along with saving Henry, they’ve gotten the failed TLK and shown us that Killian Jones is the only character to put Emma first. This couple is important to them and that means they wanted to do it right.

Xoxo Maii

Hi Jeff and Colleen,
Oh, that WICKED witch! Having our Hook hog-tied and thrown into the trunk of that “pimp mobile” like a sack of potatoes. What a ________!!! (rhymes with “witch)
I cannot wait until someone smashes her emerald pendant and tosses a bucket of well water on her.

And poor Hook cannot seem to get a break as far as getting credit for trying to protect Henry and do the right thing, not from Emma or anyone else for that matter.
But I must say that he does a great job of arching that eyebrow of his to emphasize his point just as an old fav of mine, Mr. Spock, (Leonard Nimoy for those of you too young to get the reference!) used to do to great advantage in Star Trek.

And I had to reach for my box of tissues again during the scene where Charming gives up his heart to enact the curse. Josh and Ginny did an amazing job.

Lastly, I have to admit that you had me laughing during your previous podcast where you expressed your dismay at the fact that some people watching ONCE did not get the Liberace reference because they were too young. I can fully sympathize in that, yes, I can remember TV being in black and white with “rabbit ears” when I was a kid watching programs like the original Mickey Mouse Club with Annette Funicello and Disney’s Zorro, Then how thrilled I was when my family got our first color TV and watching one of my favorites, Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. So, Jeff and Colleen…..I feel your pain! LOL!!
Take care,

Digging deeper in the grime,
finding gold one podcast at a time.
Hello Jeff and Colleen, here are the Things I learned on the episode A Curious Thing.

#1. Aurora and Philip could
potentially have a flying baby.

#2. Haggis-Dazs has found it’s true

#3. Footwear is the most powerful
magic after true love.

#4. It would be wise for Henry to
never bring a pet over Regina’s

#5. Wicked Witches and Time
Traveling Holy Wars should be
a book on the New York Time
Best Sellers list.

#6. Lana’s body double is getting
more screen time than she is.

#7. You don’t need 15 years of
medical training to become a
cardiac surgeon when you have

#8. Pine cones can be used as

#9. Only amateurs use a cheap
cloaking spell when making

#10. When you’re at the edge of the
Dark Forest trying to stop your
imminent doom, don’t forget
to stop and smell the roses.

Now for some Observations and Burning Questions.

Snow told Aurora and Philip, “If we don’t, we give into fear”. In The Phantom Menace, Yoda says, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” I guess fear also leads to be turned into a flying monkey. Maybe next time they won’t trust a Wicked Witch and will warn them ahead of time.

Henry mentions he wants to play his Gameboy. This seems really strange since the Gameboy name was discontinued in 2005 and replaced with the Nintendo DS. Henry recently had been living in New York so it’s safe to say he had the newest technology. Maybe he bought it off Ebay? I would have thought the writers would have caught something like this. I know it’s silly but to a gamer, it just sounded ridiculous and outdated.

The wanted sign for Snow actually applies now, at least the murder part anyhow. I can’t believe she went through with killing Charming! I understood the sacrifice but I couldn’t get over how they rushed to that conclusion so fast!

image (3)

Glinda told Snow, “Now you hold not one pure heart but two. I sense powerful magic there.” Since we know Snow is not magical, this answers the question, “Will their baby have magic just like Emma?”.

Seeing Regina’s heartbroken reaction over Charming and Snow’s conversation about him giving up his heart was devastating. I has to shout out, “Please, throw a fireball or something Regina! Your tearing my heart out here.”

image (10)

We heard that Zelena made her choice when she gave into her Dark Magic. This sounds a lot like Anakin Skywalker choice to give into the Dark Side.

Cap man looks exactly like Carl Fredricksen from the Pixar movie Up. Once is wife Elie passes away, his real adventure may begin. Maybe he will reveal that he is the author of the book.

image (2)

The killing of the flying monkeys made no sense to me but I have found a way to deal with it. The way I see it is, instead of asking whatever happened to so-and-so all the time, I’m just going to throw them into the flying monkey massacre category. So in this episode we saw the death of Anton, Ashley & Sean, Nicholas, Ava & Michael Tillman, King George, Sidney Glass, Mulan, Aurora & Philip, and Nova. Yes it’s sad, but at least we now know what happened and can move on, rest in peace my friends 🙁

I love how “crossbow” Granny just sits in the background knitting a blanket, not saying a word at the round table. The look she gives could be interpreted, “I’m doing MY part”.

image (8)

When you think about Henry’s potential stepdads, they are all very well known. You’ve got The Wizard of Oz, Robin Hood and Captain Hook. What kid wouldn’t think that was awesome!

We were told that we would see another death before the season is over and I hope you guys are right in predicting it might be Charming. I don’t think we can take another major death again. Even the death teases are getting tiresome at this point.

Did anyone check out the bear in Rumpel’s castle? It was to the left of the door Robin shot with an arrow. I’m thinking it’s one of the three bears. Rumple could have easily pulled off the part of Goldilocks.

Zelena was born with great power but how or why?

What was Gold doing with all those tools in the back of his trunk?

image (12)

Why didn’t Snow, David and Regina look for Ariel to send a message to Emma? Was there no sea shell around to call her with?

Who banished Glinda?

There is a magic door in a forest that leads to a world filled with snow. Could this be Narnia?

Social Media Squawks:

Tammy on Twitter Tweeted “Great podcast ep. Food for thought..Zelena was ALREADY in Regina’s castle when she got the blood via the flyingmonkey.”

Brad left a comment on the blog:

I didn’t catch this in time for my email.
While Henry is playing his game in Granny’s he says, “Yes, de-rezzed him”.
Derez is a Tron reference and is short for Deresolution. It is used in the 1982 film.
Movie Quote:
“If you lose your disc, or fail to follow commands, you will be subject to immediate deresolution”
“Derezzed” is also an instrumental by Daft Punk that appears on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.
I found this interesting.

On our Facebook page at facebook.com/ouatpodcast Cindy left a comment that the feeding the madness referred to Zelena, not Rumpel and he may not be as crazy as he’s acting.

Rumple was very specific to Cora when he told her he wanted her firstborn daughter, as she will be important to him. Assuming Zelena is telling the truth about being Cora’s firstborn, then it’s my opinion that although he may not have known the specifics, Rumpel knew he would need Zelena at some point. He trained her in magic, and she’s good at it. But he also trained her to come to him with her madness. He fed it then, and he feeds it now. She will do his bidding whether she realizes it or not. He will let her be in control only until he’s ready to take back control to attain his ultimate goal, which is to get back to Belle and Bae. His tactics. In the short term, let his opponent believe she is in control until he’s in a position to take command of the long term end game.

Is Rumpel crazy? I don’t think so, and here’s why. Feed the madness. It feeds off you. Rumple is referring to Zelena’s madness, not his. This is exactly what he did to Regina. He fed her madness. He fed her obsessive thoughts of vengefulness. He fed her insecurities, and she fed off him. She came back to him over and over and fed off Rumpel’s knowledge of magic. Regina was so obsessed with power and revenge that she made mistakes, and never realized that she was actually being led by him to do his bidding and enact the curse. Feed the madness, it feeds off you is sung to the same melody as ” you will see, you will come to me. There is more you need”. Regina came to gloat at Rumpel often which is the same thing Zelena is doing. They each wanted, at some point, to out magic the magic teacher.

Hello Jeff and Colleen, here are things I learned this week on the episode Witch Hunt. As well as more Observations & Burning Questions.

#1. Henry has a cinnamon kind of face.
#2. The city of  Phoenix takes banditry very seriously.
#3. A cradle cap is a crusty, yellow, greasy, scaly skin rash that occurs on the scalp of recently born babies.
#4. Damn it David! Whale’s a doctor not a vet.
#5. Regina has a stuffed animal spell.

Chimpanzee Minkey – http://youtu.be/WnlIWpZSPXU

#6. The Lollipop Guild exists.

Rabbit Trail – Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour: http://www.farrellsusa.com/

#7. Sometimes you have to take  it in a little bit at the hips.
#8. A flying monkeys tail could go up against Indy’s whip any day.
#9.  Regina’s not well versed in con’s.
#10. When you have big news and need to get the word out, Leroy is your man!

Is this a poppy flower like the ones in the field where Dorothy fell asleep?

Zelena says “black pearl” to herself as she is looking at a necklace on Regina’s desk.  It’s interesting to note that the Black Pearl in the Pirates of the Caribbean was originally called Wicked Wench, just a coincidence?

New York Henry has a unhealthy addiction to playing video games.

David’s cheesy smile while trying to pretend they are just old friends of Emma’s.

Before and  after shot of the flying monkey that almost got Roland. I personally like the stuffed one way better.

Could Zelena be keeping Rumpelstiltskin in Kansas? Could this possibly be Dorothy’s house?

Mary Margaret’s book is called “The New American Baby And Child
Bearing Guide”

When Mary Margaret asks Zelena “Who were you back in our land?”, she tells her “No one you’d remember”. This answer is both true and false at the same time.
Zelena is still wearing the emerald necklace even when she’s not the Wicked Witch. Could it be the source of her power? Can she not change form without it?

* What does Zelena want with
    Snow’s baby?
* Since we saw that Little John was
turned into a monkey, did the same
   thing happen to Walsh?
* Is Zelena really Regina’s sister?
   The way she justified herself
points directly to her using the
bottle with Regina’s  blood to open
    the crypt.
* Does Rumpelstilskin still have his
Dark One power? If he does, the
cage could be hindering it, like it did
with his prison in the first season.
Also,  If he is in Kansas instead of
   Storybrooke, this could also make
   him powerless.
* What did Zelena want with Cora’s

Part I:
The whole episode was the reverse of the pilot. What if the curse was reversed too? Meaning something is needed from someone you HATE the most?! (i.e. Regina)  I’m a very loyal Scandal viewer as well, so I know that fashion and hair can have way deeper subtext about a character and give more subtle hints about their arc than initially thought.
Using what was shown in “The Doctor,” Regina was in peasant’s clothing and braids which were braided in exactly the same manner as Dorothy’s. Not to mention, Rumple’s recitation of the line “we’re off to see the wizard,” and his mention of the slippers.  I sent an email into the podcast after that episode first aired explaining what—at the time—was my Regina/Dorothy theory in infancy. And, in all honesty was focused more on Whale being “The Wizard of Oz” than the parallels between Regina and Dorothy that I also noted in the email.
i. Emma was brought back as a symbol of false hope that Zelena is ALLOWING the SB peeps to have. Why? It’s because Emma would absolutely have to bring Henry along and thus Regina would be tortured because he doesn’t remember her. (possibly the plan’s fatal flaw once his memories are back) with the exception of Zelena, Hook, Emma, possibly Neal and, maybe Rumple—everyone including Henry—is missing a year of memories. Think about it, why’d Emma get her memories back so quickly instead of Henry? My deduction? She’s not the savior this time, Henry is! if I am right there’ll be a shockwave similar to when Emma kissed Henry in the S1 finale at the hospital when he gets his memories back
Part II:

There were shots that were either reinterpretations or outright shot for shot recreations from the 1939 classic film. e.g. Rumple leading Regina down the long castle hallway to Whale that’s a shot for shot recreation of Dorothy and co. walking down the hallway right outside the wizard’s chambers. And in the episode “Hat Trick,” in which Regina was again heavily featured there was a pathway made of sunflowers is seen on the right of the screen almost immediately after Regina and Jefferson step through the looking glass into Wonderland. I thought in the beginning that all of this just was a coincidence or a cluster of nice little nods, like you. I mentioned this (The Sunflower Road) to Colleen on Twitter and she mentioned it on the live show for that episode way back when.
Now, I don’t think so…at all!
Part III:
I don’t think Zelena is lying about how she’s tied to Regina, I recall reading a version of the “Miller’s Daughter” fairytale where she didn’t give her first child up, she gave up her second child. She lied and said it was her first. She banished her first born to another kingdom to protect them. And no, I’m not taking things at face value here. I believe you’re right Manny she used her blood to launch a revamped curse with it comes a slightly changed set of rules and an internally worse for wear Storybrooke.
The level of hatred Zelena has for Regina is palpable and immense. And it’s also the kind of hatred is unadulterated pain that comes with jealously at the perceived chamed life of your “kept”sibling.
After all Once’s core themes are love, hope and family

Hello guys, how was your week??
Snowing/CS living room scene
Hook’s always offering Emma hope. The way I see it, he knows there’s not much between she and Neal, but that doesn’t stop him from assuring her of the better. This was an instant where Hook was giving Emma hope and comfort as usual. I didn’t really see any signs of jealousy because honestly, this man’s not stupid, he knows Emma, and he knows that she wouldn’t have welcomed his love with a “good” had she not had feelings for him. Also, if you’ve read my scene analyses prior, you know I’m a huge fan of the way body language. How exceptional and gentleman like is it of both men to stand while their women sat. It’s such a gorgeous and subtle form of protection.
I think that Hook did have to look for the materials to make the potion and that was part of what he went through to get to NY
But it wasn’t just Snow who used birds, it was also Charming, I mean I’ve always thought it was Rumple who sent the message but now I’m going between Rumple and Charming. Both of them know  that if there’s anyone who would risk everything and anything to get to Emma, it’s Hook.
Emma did have a reaction to him, you can see it after she drank the potion and when they were drinking, it was very subtle but it was there she had just lost her perfect life so it’s understandable..

More Tallahassee parallels the whole episode was a Tallahassee parallel (plus both were written by Jane)

The was the conversation about Marian that paralled the conversation about Milah

Something that jumped out at me during this was “After our boy was born I inadvertently put her in harm’s way during a job, it’s my fault. Like I said I own my mistakes.” What if Maleficent was the one that killed Marian or she was killed in the crossfire of the problem between the merry men and maleficient caused by Will stealing the looking glass. It would make sense that he blames

The whole getting to know each other and Regina/Emma pushing them out of hurt’s way.

I think she won’t see the Lion tattoo for a while, I think they are going to fall in love first then she’ll see the tattoo and the curse will happen which means they are back in Storybrooke with no memory that they loved each other.

I’ve always said that Roland was going to be the one to bring them together and I do think we’re going to see that in the next couple eps

I love Emma and Regina being friends and I like the fact that they are not going back to the fighting each other but rather working together

The scene with the townsfolk was genius as was the scene when they are at her office.

The BRO3

Charming/Hook/Hood working together is pure gold. It’s the shows leading men and the TLs of the leading ladies. They’ve got their particular strengths and together they are even stronger.

Robin: Some manner of beast with wings
Emma: that sounds a lot like the monster that attacked me in New York
Hook: you mean the monster you were gonna marry?
Charming: you were gonna marry someone?
Hook: did you just miss the part where I said monster?

I seriously cannot get over how distraught Charming was at the fact that he didn’t know Emma was about to get married. The way he threw his hands down and completely ignored Hook was the most adorable father/daughter scene. But honestly, Hook implying that she was about to marry was simply his way of bringing light to the situation about flying monkeys. He turns these things into a joke in order for her to understand that it’s okay as opposed to getting sad over what hasn’t occurred.

You not joining us swan?

I love how concerned Hook quickly became when he realized Emma wasn’t going to join them. I mean… He just got her back. He spent a year away from her, he’s the only one remembering the time he spent away from his Swan, wondering if she was happy, if she was safe, if she’s got everything she ever dreamed of. But then he had to bring her home, knowing there was a death threat, that she wouldn’t be safe anymore. And now the threat is becoming real. People are disappearing and getting abducted by flying monkeys…

Let’s be real here, Killian is a protector. And he believes Emma is his true love. What is he supposed to do, except try his best to protect her from any danger? For me, in this tiny moment, you can see that he doesn’t like the idea of being separated from her. He got used to them working together, as a team. He got used to see her by his side, so not having her there worries him.

I believe that’s exactly what the writers want us to see. Because why else would they make him say that phrase if it wasn’t for us to realize, once more, that he care for her?

It’s not the first time they’re not together in a scene and yet, if I remember correctly, it’s the first time they make him ask about her whereabouts. If that isn’t telling, then I don’t know what is.

Hook Found Me

She says it so casually and yet nobody has ever done that before for her. She’s happy he did and she’s here because of him. I have the impression that she’s happy and proud to it. She’s happy that she has this one person in her life who actually found her and she’s grateful for it. And she keeps telling people about it.

Charming’s House
Emma: The wicked witch of the west? Seriously She’s real too?
Hook: Says the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming

It’s so incredibly amazing that a year ago Hook got punched for walking into their house now he comes in side by side with his mate/future father in law almost like he’s completely 100% part of the family. Also, the commentary about Emma being Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter was pure gold. Because ultimately, Hook doesn’t care who she is and that’s why it’s said – just as though he jokingly calls her savior. For him, she’s defined by her heart not any title or where she comes from. Additionally, it’s him once again bringing a joke into the picture to lighten the moments because they’ve learned of another threat. It’s also a way for him to remind her that he’s there, he’s making his presence known in the most Hook-esque way.

People often joke about them being an old married couple, but they’re literally that. We’re constantly given these moments that the plot could function without, but they’re there to remind us that these two have each other. In this crazy screwed up world which always comes a shock to Emma, she’s got someone who’ll try to distract her from it all. They can taunt one another or silently offer their support with their presence. That’s why their relationship is so beautiful, it’s raw and effortless. This is them and quite frankly, the way Hook gets under Emma’s skin is refreshing to her because she knows his intentions. She knows he’s just trying to lighten the mood and even if he’s being ridiculous, deep down it amuses her – the fact that he still tries is refreshing to her. He loves the fact that she’s grounded to her modern day roots and he brings these little moments up to playfully let her know he gets her. He’s being snarky because he wants to show her he sees it like she does as well. It’s a serious matter, but they can have fun with the reality of things.

A little single white female isn’t it?

I’m not completely sure if she’s related to Regina or Snow but I think it could be either. The fact remains that she’s going after both of them.  And yet we’ve got no clue to what her main goal is, which I find kind of refreshing to say the least.

Stray observations

Did you notice how Neal got hurt by the flying monkey in the flashback?

I kinda want to scream at Snow, she’s a new person don’t trust her! Especially since you’ve got no idea who cursed you!

Best lines

Snow: They are being turned into flying monkeys?
Hook: Yes they took on the simian form with the added bonus of wings

Emma: The wicked witch of the west? Seriously She’s real too?
Hook: Says the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming

Regina: Who knew a thief had honor?
Robin: Who knew an evil queen had a soft spot for children

Charming: Regina, what exactly are we up against besides green skin and a pointy hat? What did you do to her?
Regina: This time? Nothing. Never met her
Charming: This isn’t a personal vendetta? Shocking

As a final note you guys were talking about wonderland and honestly? I know the show started out slow it’s soo good.. And there’s like no spoilers for it so the big shocks/reveals are actually shocking and the characters are well written if someone stopped watching early on you have to get back on it bc it’s just that good.

That’s all for now! Love, Maii

Dan from Boston

Greetings from Emma’s first home (Boston MA!!).  Welcome back!  Missed you guys!  To quote an English bard “It was a long, cold winter. . . .. and so they had to eat Sir Robin’s minstrels, and there was MUCH rejoicing!!  HOORAY!!”  😉  (And that’s not the last Python quote you’ll here from me!  Here are my comments:

(1)  I like how Celina quoted a line from a Rollings Stones song, (“Please, allow me to introduce myself. . . . “).  She’s green w/envy over what Regina has, right?  The “have’s vs have not’s”?

(2) (1st Star Wars reference)  Regina moving the boulder, please cue “Yoda’s theme” music here!

(3)  (2nd and 3rd S.W. reference)  Little John  (a) Chewbacca’s crossbow, but (b) has the accuracy of a Stormtrooper! (missed the turkey. . . .)

BTW, Jeff, speaking of the “merry man”, “What’s the current airspeed of a Little John laiden flying monkey?”  :p  And did I hear Jiminey Cricket weighing in on the “monkey CSI” jokes!?!

(4)  Had an odd revelation when there was the Regina/Celina “sisters” reveal, . .. .the two of them breaking out and performing the “Sisters” number from the movie “White Christmas”!!

(5)  Celina/Witch, going to the storm cellar, like just before the twister hit in Wizard of Oz.

(6)  Here’s the BIG one!  The Gold/Rumple reveal!!  In a cage. . . . AGAIN!!  I first thought, good to see him, but why the “dark one” again?  Thought he gave up that role, hoped he would go from “dark side to light side” or Gandalf/Gray to Gandalf/White. . . . . not to Gollum or Salecious Crumb (Star Wars ROTJ character, laughs all the time!)!?!

(7)  “Feed the madness and it feeds on you. . . . ”   –  Reminds me of a Star Wars character that was brought back in Seasons 4 and 5 of “The Clone Wars”, that of Darth Maul  (he’s half the man that he was in “The Phantom Menace” LOL).   If you haven’t seen his re-incarnation, I’ll be sure and attach a link to you tube videos, and you’ll see what I’m getting at.  Brilliantly voiced by Sam Witwer (“Smallville” and “Being Human”).

Finally, Ponderings. . . . . “who’s Wicked’s Daddy”??  Are the writers giving us hints, or just making us chase down “rabbit holes”?  Your thoughts, Jeff?  Colleen?
