Hello Jeff and Colleen, here are the things I learned in the episode, It’s Not Easy Being Green.

#1. Geppetto has some major clock tower repair on his hands.

#2. Zelena may have silver slippers but Regina has the ruby red
gloves.

#3. Doc needs to stop parking his Miata in the street.

#4. Never bet Emma in a game of darts.

#5. Kermit the frog still has a chance.

#6. The Wicked Witch of the Wild West is a version of OZ
I definitely want someone to make!

#7. Some conversations aren’t meant for the doorway.

#8. A Sleeping curse while you’re pregnant is never good for the
baby.

#9. Hook’s bringing the sextant back.

#10. Someone’s going to have to start directing traffic on Main
Street, pronto!

Here are some quick theories, observations and burning questions.

THEORIES:

Lots of people are theorizing that Rumpel may be Zelena’s father but what if it’s Walsh? We know he was originally from Kansas. Could he have come through the same cyclone Zelena did? He would have been a much younger man at the time and maybe he wanted to give the baby her best chance by letting another family take care of her. He seemed to know a lot about Cora. Was this from memory or magic?

Zelena said that after her second chance, Regina will have never been born. If she takes Regina’s place, does Zelena then need Snow’s baby to take hers? There may not even be anything special about the Charming’s baby since Aurora and Philip were worried about their baby as well.

Regina’s line about Cora having a love child with a scarecrow could be a reference by the show writers that Rumpelstiltskin is Zelena’s father. It could also be just a clever red herring to throw us off the trail.

OBSERVATIONS:

Blue has been absent since New York Serenade but she did attend the funeral for Neil. She can be seen standing to the right of the group when the camera is looking up from the casket.

I love Robin Hood but did anyone else think the scene of him peeking through the tree was kind of creepy?

Regina and Zelena fighting is exactly what I wished would have happened with Cora. Usually, Regina’s snappy insults are directed towards the heroes on the show so it was great to finally have her on the same side, laying the smack down on Zelena.

Now that we know Walsh is the Wizard, your question “Will Emma be Walsh’s savior too?” is a very good possibility Jeff.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

Did Zelena take over the Emerald City after she transformed Walsh?

We learned that Walsh is being forced to serve Zelena. Could he actually have been in love with Emma? This could complicate matters down the line if it’s true.

Hey guys!
I finally have some time to send this email it’s been a long week, but I finally have two weeks off for easter break yey!

As a film student I thought the camera movements were extremely interesting.

Funeral: It was a really powerful scene that started with Hook throwing the dirt because he was the one that knew him best from the people there and ending with Emma who is finally closing that chapter of her life. Plus the cuts to Rumple feeling the dirt make it all the more painful.

Captain Cobra:
Before anything else, it’s necessary to say that their entire journey was threaded with honesty. From the moment they were about to get on the boat, Hook states that he offered to take him. This is the second time they’ve canonically interacted and it’s involved Hook telling Henry the truth, thus validating just how much he values nobility above all things. Additionally, he knows Emma so well, that he tells Henry things he knows Emma would not only approve of, but genuinely be thankful for. And from the moment Henry expressed not being interested in navigating the stars, he told him the truth about Bae’s father’s death. He made sure Henry knew why Emma was doing what she was doing. And he made sure Henry knew great things about Bae.

Earning Emma’s father’s respect is immensely vital in terms of story telling, and Hook was successful in doing so. He and Charming have found a real friendship in one another. And now, Hook and Henry have found a fatherly bond with one another. If that isn’t obvious as to who Emma’s true love is then I don’t know what to say. And the most beautiful part of the friendships Hook’s formed with Emma’s loved ones is that he’s saved both them in ways they needed at the time — his actions were selflessly inspired by his love for Emma. He literally saved Charming’s life, and he saved Henry’s heart by helping him be at ease even for a little while.

Plus I love the fact that he’s like “this one will do” meaning he “borrowed it” which I thought was hilarious

Oz: Oz was wonderful and the GCI was pretty good..I did not expect it to be Walsh I knew he was in the ep but I didn’t realize he was the wizard, on my 2nd watch I noticed that it was his voice and I’m hitting myself for not noticing it heheh.

Emma slept with the wizard of oz turned monkey then turned human again hehehe.

Outlaw Queen: Let’s face it Tinkerbell is us with our OTPs the whole GO TALK TO HIM thing and getting frustrated plus I feel like she truly cares about Regina and her happiness and wants her to finally be happy. (plus her meeting Robin was perfect). When Zelena comes to threaten Regina you can see Robin stepping closer as if to protect her if something goes wrong.

It’s good for Regina to have someone to confide in. Plus it says a lot that she trusts him with her heart (literally). “You can’t steal something that’s been given to you.”

Rumple/Regina: I thought the letter was extremely interesting because while in that time it was about Zelena now it’s what Rumple thinks of Regina.

I think he used the events in his life to manipulate Zelena only it went incredibly sideways bc he didn’t realize Zelena would fixate on him so much.

Captain Swan:
Hook doesn’t have the Jolly Roger! You know what this means? It means he gave up his ship for a way to find a way to get to Emma. He gave up his home, where Liam died and where Milah died, the last trace of his home to get Emma back to her home.

CS At Grannu’s: Reference to Graham and the throwing of the darts..Notice how Emma has gotten much better at it.

Holy Character development Batman! For Hook to be the one to tell her not to get stuck in revenge it means a lot.

At this point it’s safe to state that if Emma didn’t want Hook around, she wouldn’t be as gracefully comfortable standing so close to him. But good lord, Colin O’Donoghue, try not to kill me and millions of others with your outstanding acting abilities.

The moment Emma mentions: as far as he knows, I haven’t seen Neal since he left me in jail. While Hook’s been to his fair share of prisons, he believes that the ones in our world are far worse. And the moment she says this, the expression in his eyes instantly saddens as he subtly tries to swallow because deep down, he’s breaking. He’s trying to hold it in but it undoubtedly shatters him that she’s been to one of those places. Also, “You’d really do that?” “Aye”

There’s one thing I found extremely impeccable about this scene and it’s the fact that Hook didn’t say something along the lines of “does that surprise you”. It pains him that she has very little faith in him sometimes, but he understands, he sees why she’s breaking. He knows her better than she knows herself and the fact that she can’t see what’s right in front of her is unbearable for him. He’s trying to show her that he’s not going anywhere, and he does that by demonstrating that Henry’s important to him as well.

Emma can’t control the fact that she’s afraid. While deep down she knows he’s not going anywhere, she’s still scared of giving her heart to him fully. And that’s completely normal. She essentially gave him an enormous part of her heart by trusting him with Henry.

I also feel the need to point out that the way her eyes fluttered after he said “nothing will happen to the boy while he’s in my charge” essentially has to mean that she knows it won’t. She trusts him. Jennifer Morrison does this gorgeous thing where she allows Emma’s heart to be reflected in her facial expressions even when her words say something else. It’s not that she was afraid of Henry being in Hook’s care, it’s that she’s afraid of the witch, but what she kept illuminating with her eyes and body language is that she knows she can completely trust Hook.

Doorway scene:

The fact that Emma kept replying with thanks again was because she already knew everything he was going to say. She knows that deep down, this is the best thing for her. Being around family, friends. This place is their home. And Hook knows that as well, he’s telling her she needs to stay because he knows that while New York may have been great, being around loved ones is even better. Though there may be trials and tribulations, it’s worth it because family, friends, and love are always worth it. He’s not pressuring her, he’s only telling her what he knows she already knows. A partner, a person, a soulmate, says what they know the other needs to hear and when.

Their body language is the number one sign that they’re incredibly comfortable with another, especially Emma. She holds nothing back from him. She knows he accepts her. She knows he loves her and that’s something that she’s intuitively drawn towards. He’s made it so she knows that everything she feels is welcomed with him and that’s why she’s able to be herself without hesitation.

The episode was about trust and second chances, she trusted Hook with Henry. And he had the second chance to be a fatherly figure to someone. It’s not coincidence that these moments all occurred in the same episode. At the end of the day, Hook’s part of the family – and it couldn’t be more obvious.

Nice cut to Rumpel. Rumpel can feel the funeral and the dirt tossing?

The Dark One dagger and Zelena’s control reminds me of the Emperor and Vader on the Death Star when Vader and Luke were fighting.

Did anyone notice that Neal thanked Hook for bringing Emma back? Do you think he sent the potion?

If Snow’s Baby is the “heart”, it should be protected, like Emma’s

Emma has magic because she is the product of true love. Her heart couldn’t be ripped out by Cora in season 2 because of this. I wonder if the baby will also have magic like Emma. If this is the case and if Zelena tries to take the baby’s heart, it wouldn’t work. I don’t think she wants Henry because even though he has the heart of the truest believer, Regina put that spell on him, so that his heart could never be taken.

‘Course that scene HAD to happen five minutes before putting my own son to bed!! THANKS OUAT!! Like the king from Tolkien’s “Two Towers” (Riders of Rohan), “No parent should have to bury/outlive their own child.” Seriously though, one of the best scenes in the whole series! Knocked it out of the park!

Something incredibly important I forgot to mention was
Rumple chose his son over magic. We saw the exact same situation that we saw back in season 1 Desperate Souls..This time around, we see character growth. He makes the right choice. He proves that he learned from his mistake the first time, and he chooses his son. This is huge. The entire reason the curse was ever enacted was because Rumple made the wrong choice the first time around. Rumple’s entire story has been about this moment – about proving to his son that he has learned from his mistakes. He has changed. Rumple knows now that his son trumps power, and this gave him the chance to truly prove that. He may have said it before now, but actions will always speak louder than words. Any doubts that we may have had about Rumple’s character growth were erased by this act.

Greetings Jeff and Colleen, here are the things I learned this week on the episode, Quiet Minds. 
#1. The secret to defeating Zelena, is to tell Leroy she ate all the the bacon.
#2. Under no circumstances do you invade Regina’s space.
#3. A woman’s eyes can even get a pirate to do what she wants. 
#4. Attempted murder can be forgiven as long as there are extenuating circumstances.
#5. If Hook is selling books on Amazon as “like new”, don’t believe him. 
#6. Emma’s Super Mom breakfast was comparable to sending Aqualad to save the world.
#7. Regina should be the new spokeswoman for Jack Daniels.
#8. Think twice before using the bathroom in Snow’s and Charming’s apartment.
 #9. Zelena may or may not posses boxes of hair. 
#10. And all the Captain Swan fans said, amen. 

OBSERVATIONS:
They made a point in this episode to show the swan necklace that Emma gave back to Neil in the episode Manhattan. I feel this necklace is important and will show up again. A crazy theory I had is that this necklace may be the symbol of Emma or Neil’s heart that Zelina will need. Belle did say, it was born out of true love.

When Dorothy and her friends went to see the Wizard, he gave them items that symbolized what they were lacking. The Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow never had anything taken away from them yet we’ve been attributing their personas to people in Storybrooke. We never stopped to ask the question, where did the Wizard get the items from? Could Zelena be collecting them for him or is she herself the Wizard? There are people who could benefit from what Zelena has stolen. Let me just brainstorm for a second.  Rumple has been a coward all his life, Regina could use a heart, that is not black, to fall in again and Henry could use a brain to remember. I don’t know, just some random thoughts. What do you guys think?
Zelena tells her flying monkey “Find him, beautiful one”. Could it be the monkey means something more to her?
The key marked Neil for death,  just as the medallion did with Regina and Prince Philip when the Wraith attacked them.

I loved Lumiere’s character.
he sounded great and definitely added to the story. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I really wish they could have done the same with Rapunzel. We did see Lumiere back in season one, or at least an Easter egg of what they wanted us to think.

The scene with Robin and Regina at Zelina’s country house was almost the same exact conversation they had in Witch Hunt before going down the secret tunnel to the castle. Check it out:

This prompts Regina to say, “Have we met before”. Maybe she’s remembering slowly.

Hello Jeff and Colleen, how are you guys? That episode hurt, I admit it I cried but I felt it was a long time coming. Especially considering they foreshadowed it in Season 1 with Emma telling Henry about how his dad died in a fire and Neal technically dying from a burn in  his hand.
Belle – For me Belle was the MVP of this ep, which is weird bc I’ve never been much of a Belle fan

 Belle was a bit suspicious at the beginning but put it away and then when he said the thing about the 200 years she knew her suspicious were confirmed.  She was the one who told Neal not to do it that Rumple wouldn’t want this and that they would put millions of people in danger. Even when Lumiere betrayed her she still saved him from the witch bc she could have easily ran off but she made sure to grab him. 
Storybrooke
Belle and Hook- these scenes were I think my fav of the episode 
Hook: I will stay here with you, I’m surprisingly good at research
Belle: You..will stay with me 
Emma: He’ll protect you if the witch comes
Belle: You do know he’s tried to kill me?
Hook: Ah, there were extenuating circumstances
Belle: Twice
Hook: Sorry?
This is a man who has admitted he doesn’t apologize and yet here he is apologizing,  he is on the path to changing and he knows that part of it is making up for what he has done.  There’s the fact that they trusted him to take care of Belle and Belle herself didn’t doubt it after her initial concern. She let him stay there and he rushed in with a sword to protect her not knowing who was trying to come inside. 
We can see that the only reason Belle is less forgiving with him than she is with Rumple is that he personally slighted her. She seems downright affectionate with him in the books scene and I thought it was wonderful. 
The scene in Gold’s shop with Snow holding Belle and Charming reassuring Hook was wonderful – they all felt like family in that moment, mourning the loss of one of theirs. It was good to have Snow and Charming as the unaffected ones offering support, since they never bonded with Neal.

Neal/Emma scenes
Their scenes make me wish they had done more with Neal’s character because they showed that Emma and Neal could be friends for Henry. Because all their scenes were about Henry, Emma’s moved on ever since before the second curse she hasn’t wanted anything with him romantically. Neal in this ep actually understood that and he didn’t try to belittle her or her feelings like in other episodes. It makes me sad for the wasted potential. 
He told her to find Tallahassee with someone else just like Daniel told Regina to love again. In this case I’m pretty sure Neal knew exactly who he was talking about when he told her that.  Tallahassee didn’t mean the place it meant true love & home and they could never find it together. 
Both most of all I’m sad for Henry bc he didn’t remember his father before he died. Because for all his faults Neal actually was a good father during the time he spent with Henry, and he loved his son. 
Captain Fire – There’s 3 parts to this entire scene, the funny, the sentimental and the well let’s call it eye opening
The funny – Hook bringing him Jello bc it’s what they gave him at the hospital and he thinking it has medicinal properties
The Touching – This scene was all I wanted since we found out their backstory. Because Hook loved Bae like a son.  And it was Neal finally seeing Killian behind the mask of Hook, he actually called him Killian. 
Hook told Neal that they let … “A Woman” come between them. 
Not Emma, but “a woman”.
Because he was also talking about Milah. It was a double entendre. Because both women came between them in a way.
BUT…when he said it he was hugging Neal + Rumple. So he also acknowledged that Miilah was at the root of their 300+ year feud without even realizing he was doing so.
The eye-opening – no one has really talked about this scene everyone focuses on the other parts
“What’s it feel like, to play the hero after being a pirate for so long?”
“Unfamiliar.”
“And you? How does it feel to play the villain?” 
“I’m a villain now?” 
“Well, if you truly had a hand in bringing your father back. I’d suspect you to use the darkest of magic, and pay and even darker price.” 
I find it really interesting because Hook was the only to kind of bring to mind that what Neal did wasn’t actually heroic but rather probably the opposite. 
My friend Nini put these tags on a gif set of this scene #neal owning to his mistakes man that was one of my main problems with him #he didn’t apologize to emma until 2×21 #and then in 3a with mulan and aurora it was all ‘i let her go’ instead of ‘i fucked her up for good for the next 11 years’ #and here ofc he doesn’t remember what he’s done #but he must have had an idea of how desperate he would have been as soon as emma and henry left and rumpel died and they were sent back to the EF #everybody loves to call out on all the crap hook has done and no matter what he does to try to change and show that the good form lover inside of him still stands he gets called out for being a lovesick puppy #but hey no neal is a good guy he was only trying to get back to his family or let emma find hers and fulfill her destiny yadda yadda yadda #wake up call: no #and i love that it is hook the one to make him see what he was willing to put on the line to get what he wanted #little bae despised magic and so did neal but he was willing to use it just to get back his family #he didn’t listen to belle when she insisted he was making a mistake and they should look for some other way #alas he didn’t 
In the end they show you that that Neal didn’t learn from his father’s mistake. 
Rumple and Bae. that scene killed me and I liked the fact that they didn’t focus on the relationship with emma but rather on the relationship with rumple because this is what the show was about. Rumple getting back his son and now he lost him again this time for good. 
Outlaw Queen
Honestly I love their chemistry (and he was totally checking her out) and I love much it paralleled their first time in the EF. I had already seen the sneak peek of this scene so I knew her seeing the tattoo was coming but I loved the aftermath. I loved that she ran, because it’s true to her character and it’s what she did all those years ago. 
And yet what was different is she came back this time and if you think about it this is a Regina with no memory of last year so she has no idea Marian died. She probably thinks he is a married man. Which would mean she lost her chance.

Ahoy there, Jeff, Colleen & Lady!
Some random thoughts I had about the episode Quiet Minds:
• I really need to keep a box of tissues nearby when watching ONCE episodes. I sure could have used them at the end of this episode, especially when Rumple and Emma were saying their final goodbyes to Neal.
•  It was interesting that only Killian suspected the tragic consequences of Neal’s effort to bring Rumple back. He seemed to realize that only the darkest of magic could have accomplished it and that an even darker price would have to be paid. I think that was why we were witness to that unexpected “bro” hug Killian gave to Neal. It was his way of saying goodbye. 
• The black goo that oozed out of the Dark One’s vault to transform into Rumble was a terrific CGI effect and also reminded me of the black alien oil featured in many X-Files episodes.
• I think the necklace that Neal returned to Emma is going to feature in whatever magic is created to vanquish the Wicked Witch because, as Belle said, it was born out of true love, the strongest magic there is.
• The image of the floating head of Lumiere seemed very similar in look to the floating head image of the Wizard of Oz.
• And finally, since there are no good delis in Storybrooke where one can get a decent sesame seed bagel, one must assume that there are no characters from Jewish folktales residing in Storybrooke? 
Cannot wait to see Sunday’s episode and ONCE’s version of “High Noon” between Regina and Zelena.

 I just listened to the podcast, which was pretty good as always and I have some thoughts specially regarding to Hook. In these last 3 eps I can see lots of parallels between Hook and Han Solo regarding to their relationships as well as personalities. Both are very confident , adventures, they love a challenge and their vessels. Han had a hard time thinking that Leia had strong love feeling ( he didn’t know Luke was her brother until their last scene) for Luke and so does Hook. Hook still thinks Emma has strong feelings for Neal and maybe Walsh and it hurts him, so he builds his walls up being sarcastic and with the terrible jokes, it’s his way to protect himself ( as Han did ). so when Emma supposes that he had a terrific time in EF , he sticks to the idea, which is totally a big fat lie , maybe hr’s been trying to find her ever since he parted ways on the first ep. Remember Han gives his ship away (lends it but… anyway) for a greater good maybe Hook did the same thing but in change of something to find Emma. It would be a nice parallel and iink it would made perfectly sense cuz he said : there was nothing for him there in EF. Regarding to Emma , I think she’s getting more and more comfortable around him , cant wait to see where this all goes…

That 9 month caption also told us how far along Mary Margret/ Snow is in her pregnancy in present day Storybrooke, (9th month), as well as telling us that the events in The Tower took place in the 3rd month they were there in FTL/EF.

The shaving scene may have had other psychological, foreshadowing meanings, but it simply hit me as a way to get a sample of Rumple’s blood to open his safe in his shop.
Apparently after the “Ashley incident”, Mr.Gold began to lock his safe with a blood curse, for added security. lol…, and Zelena needed his blood to get something magical, I’m assuming, out of that safe.
Could you tell what that was that she took from his safe? It didn’t ring a bell with me.

A second look at what Zelena took from Gold’s safe now looks like “Night Root.” The root that grows under white moss at the haunted edge of Sherwood forest. According to Friar Tuck, if this root is digested, it would help one overcome any and all fears and has flecks of crystal in it’s flesh.
Perhaps an ingredient needed in one of Zelena’s potions and doesn’t grow in Storybrooke’s realm.

J – What if we are about to learn that Zelena was cursed back to Storybrooke somehow and that’s why she needs Snow and Charming’s baby?

Another observation from that scene….. THIS Robinhood says he doesn’t dabble in magic unless he has to. The other Robinhood couldn’t stop expressing how much he loved magic (in Rumple’s castle, as he stole a magic wand) and that his bow was enchanted. #justsayin

I find the last photo in the show notes of Zelena making tea very interesting. Are we looking down at her distorted reflection in the tea, or looking up from the bottom of the tea cup at her. A neat camera angle. Either way, I believe the liquid is reflecting her true appearance. Which would could tie into her telling Rumple about keeping up appearances.

I stuck to one topic in my email but I couldn’t help but point this out.
Snow you know there’s a wicked witch out there who cursed you and this too good to be true woman, who you don’t remember shows up and you immediately trust her?
Emma’s princess dress had Swan feathers on it (and it was so gorgeous)
The doll of the knight was missing from her nursery but the pirate/naval officer is still there. Basically means even if Charming isn’t able to protect her or can’t be there for her, she still has Killian. (Those dolls were there In the pilot and were there again in the tower)

I love the scene outside the storm shelter so much because they’ve just had this emotional moment, but Emma isn’t withdrawn too much. She’s smiling. He makes her smile, even if it’s at his expense. And he’s sighing in exasperation because she’s always teasing him but he loves it secretly because any sort of anything from her makes him love her even more. And it’s this incredibly light moment that shows why they work so well together. They may not be emotionally able to admit it to each other yet, but they love being together and working together and this just shows how well they fit together.

I know I am a little late but I listened to your First Thoughts and the Main Show on “Witch Hunt” and you guys mentioned that Zelina got into the crypt by somehow using Regina’s blood. When I saw the episode, I had thought that because they are half sisters, Zelina wouldn’t have to use any sort of magic or trick to get past the blood curse because they are family. I am not sure if I am missing a piece of the puzzle or have something wrong so feel free to correct me.

Zelena and the original three

We’ve said Rumple could be the wizard and Snow’s kid or Belle could be Dorothy but I think it goes this way…

Charming is the Cowardly Lion – This current episode was all about how he was afraid of being a father. He was afraid of losing his second child because he feels like he messed everything up the first time. And by defeating the demon, he finds that all he needed to do was find the courage within himself.

Hook is the Tin Man – In the scene we saw with Hook and Emma tonight we hear him say, “If a heart is broken, that means it still works.” After all he went through, seeking revenge for a woman he lost 300 years ago, he found Emma. He found love again, learning that even though his heart had been broken, he found something that made him realize he had a heart the entire time.

Rumple is the Scarecrow – Right now, he seems like a crazy man. Zelena is in charge of him and he is unable to escape his apparent psychosis. You might say he is “without his mind.” The new promo shows that he is running, possibly escaping. On a mission to find something that can hold his sanity together, perhaps? Like Belle?

Emma is Dorothy – With her old and new memories colliding, Emma is on a mission to find her way home. The only problem is she does not know what that means – being an orphan in the foster system her entire life, she has never found stability, family, a place of belonging. This season is her journey to finding where her home is (The Charmings, Killian) and learning, like Dorothy did, that she had a home all along.

I admit the first person to bring this theory to life was my best friend Lexi…. I’m going to pass you the links bc it really is a good read and I need more people to read it because she is brilliant (and no this is not me being biased, she just is brilliant)

There’s people that say that the tin man could be Emma, or Neal but I firmly believe it’s Killian Jones.. Like stated above Killian Jones is all about heart.

He was introduced to us in a romantic tragedy, where the woman he loved had her heart ripped from her and he went on a mission of revenge for 300 years until he met a reason to let go of revenge, Emma (who incidentally cannot have her heart ripped out)

Even though he literally sucked at being a villain, he’s the only one that ever admitted his mistakes at first try. He firmly believes he has a rotten heart that it’s completely blackened and that the lieutenant jones is completely gone.

He is the character who is completely moved by what his heart tells him (and the only character who’s gotten close to getting his heart ripped more than once but it’s never actually been taken out)

Another important thing is that the three leading men of the show (Charming, Rumple, Hook) are going to be the three who are the lion, the tin man and the scarecrow.

Zelena is not taking the actual objects but objects that symbolize them.

All 3 objects that Zelena will have in her possession to represent her taking brains,courage and heart will be pointy, a deadly weapon and an object that represents who the person has transformed into from the person they once were. A dagger, a hilt with a broken piece of sword and possibly a hook.

The dagger represents Rumple going from town coward to the Dark One.

The sword represents Charming going from shepherd to knight & prince.

The hook represents Killian going from pirate to villain.

Another hint to Killian Jones being the tin man

Hook: If it can be broken, that means it still works..

Wizard of Oz

General thoughts from The Tower episode –
 
When Charming was fighting the physical form of his fear, the fear had an attitude and  voice that reminded me of The Kurgan from Highlander. 
 
Charming is drinking?  We’ve seen that before with Rumple drinking out of a flask at Charming’s mother’s house in The Shepherd (I think?).
 
Regina feels the people of Storybrooke is a family to her – very nice.  Plus, Regina appears happy to be at the party welcoming Rapunzel back to her parents.  Nice to see Regina is being included.
 
Okay, I too came up with this theory before I heard your thoughts from The Tower episode:   Is Zelena collecting Courage (the Lion), Smarts (the Scarecrow), and Heart (the Tin Woodman) to create a spell or potion?   Who would represent brains (Mr. Gold?) and heart (Snow?).  I believe the potion will be used by Zelena to achieve her ultimate goal. 
 
I believe Zelena’s backstory is:  She will be the Dorothy character, an unhappy daughter/step-daughter of a drunk, poor carnival man – Professor Marvel.  She learns her skills of manipulation from him.  She longs for a better life and somehow ends up in Oz.  She stumbles upon a source of magic (the emerald necklace) and becomes a green, wicked witch.
 
Thanks again Jeff and Colleen for a great job.  Hope Lady feels better.  I have two dogs that are very special to me, so I understand how you feel.

Silly Thoughts –
 
If you notice on the right side at the base of the tower (that held Rapunzel) there appears to be a structure that could have had a doorway. Why didn’t Charming look for a door before climbing the wall?  What if Rapunzel tells Charming (once he gets to the top) that he should have taken the stairs?
 
Will we get to see Zelena ride her bike (like Miss Gulch?).
 
I’m surprised the writers have not had the characters in the Enchanted Forest remark about missing some of the luxuries they enjoyed back in Storybrooke, like a hot shower, cell phones, Granny’s burgers, or a hot cup of coffee?  Especially coffee!

Okay, revision, Snow and Charming’s baby will by a symbol of heart.  For brains, it may turn out to be something representing knowledge, possibly the book Snow gave Henry that had everyone’s stories?

Hey guys!  Glad to hear you liked my comments!  Well, there’s more where that came from “dearies”!!  And here we. . . . GO!

(1) Yeah Jeff, I also saw the Empire nod when David took off the hood.  But the figure also looked like the Emperor a la Revenge of the Sith too.  Plus, David choking David was Darth Vader straight out of the first scene in A New Hope!!

(2)  Lord of the Rings reference, broken sword to defeat the foe, aka the one that cut off Sauron’s  ring finger in “Fellowship”.

Humor me, I also saw a few Batman/Dark Knight nods here. . . . 

(3) Zelena referring to her father as a “drunkard, and worse (a fiend?)”, Heath Ledger’s Joker.

(4)  David, scaling the tower reminds me of the 60’s Batman show w/Adam West, using the “Bat-grappling hooks”.

(5)  BTW, Did Zelena quip to Regina in, “Witch Hunt”, “Why so . . . serious???”; not sure, I’ll have to re-watch that one.

(6)  Zelena w/dark dagger, giving Rumple a shave, looking a bit like Helene Bonham Carter in “Sweeney Todd”, don’t you think?   As an aside, it must have taken multiple takes to get that scene in, shaving without cream, with a PLASTIC DAGGER!?!   “It’s only a model!. . .. SHHHHH!!!”

ANYWAY. . . .(7)  Also, with the shaving scene, if they are in fact father and daughter, then a line from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off came to mind while watching this, “Hmmmm, so THAT’S how it is in their family!?!”  😉

PONDER ME THIS!!  (Sorry. .. . just HAD to say it. .. . . . ):

What if Zelena is taking such an interest in the Charming’s expectant baby is because, . . . .wait for it. . . . (or, “Stay on target. . . .”), the baby is, in fact, Zelena herself!!  A “Back to the Future time paradox if you will,  “GREAT SCOTT Grumpy!!”

Closing on a serious note, if you don’t mind.  PLEASE send your thoughts and prayers out to the families and friends of two Boston firefighters, who earlier this week lost their lives while doing what they do best, saving others.  (Getting religious for a second. . . ) .  “Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine around them.  And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the loving mercy of God, rest in peace.    Amen.

Hello Jeff and Colleen, it’s good to hear that there were no complications with Lady going to the vet this past week.
Now, unto the things I learned this week on the episode, The Tower. 

#1. What drew Emma to Walsh was a 
       proper vanity set.
#2. Always appreciate your jailor.
#3. Weaponry can be used as 
          shaving tools.
#4. David is a berry connoisseur.
#5. You never know what secrets 
          you’ll find in someone else’s 
          quiver.
#6. Regina’s daycare service is 
          open for business.
#7. Flying monkeys + Granny’s 
         cross bow = target practice.
#8. Never hold a woman’s hand 
         during pregnancy, unless you 
         have 30 years to recover. 
#9. While being choked, David does a 
         great Batman impression.
#10. Killian uses his hook like an 
           iPhone.  
OBSERVATIONS:
Everything in this episode was great except for Rapunzel. She was just a woman with long hair that served no purpose. There wasn’t even a real witch, she put herself in the tower.  I thought she could have been so much more but it seems like they just turned her into a throwaway character. I see her taking the same route as Ashley, Kathryn or Ariel.
Or maybe even worse, be subject to just one episode like Gaston, Hansel and Gretel, Nova or Sir Lancelot. You could have removed her part in this episode entirely and it wouldn’t even have made a difference. So, I’m kind of disappointed in her first appearance, hopefully they prove me wrong and this won’t be the last time we see her. 
While Zelina is talking with Snow she says “He caught you in a net?” I believe this may be a reference to Lost. In episode 22 of season 2, Jack tells Sawyer how him and Kate were caught in a net. Sawyer mistakenly takes this to mean that they slept with each other. Later in the episode, Sawyer uses this same term to tell Jack that he slept with Ana-Lucia by saying, “we got caught in a net!”. 
Regina had a smile on her face when it was revealed that Rumpelstiltskin was alive. Is the real fun about to begin?

While Zelena talked with Rumpelstiltskin she had her emerald ring on.

And while with David and Snow it looks she was wearing some type of green collar brooch. I can only assume it was made of an emerald as well.

like that Zelena is using the characters there instead of bring in the scarecrow tin man cowardly lion now that she has a symbol of Charming courage I think Rumple is the brain and Nealfire is the heart and she going through the family line I think Emma is going to be Dorothy in this story because Emma never really had a home and I think Emma going to realize Storybrooke is her home I like the Rapunzel story and I don’t think it’s done my theory is we haven’t seen the last of Walsh what if Walsh is Rider Flynn and he was a thief and he stole from Zelena and she caught him and to spare his life he did her bidding by sending to him New York to keep Emma there I have question do you think it been better if we saw what her and Henry life was like in New York minus Hook and she got a case in any part of Maine and her and Henry went to Maine and stumble upon Storybrook like it was fate since they talk about fate and destiny and as they enter storybrook their memories start to come back to them like in the mid finale when they drove over the town line you saw their memories changing I know they probably want to show us that Hook will always comeback for Emma because Neilfire didn’t or because they are setting up that Hook has agenda look forward to listening

Hi guys my name is Alexandra.  This is my first time writing in but I have been listening to the show since the start of season 2.  I’m a huge Rumple fan and I was too excited for words when I saw he was back.  I loved seeing the crazy Rumple like you guys and I almost hope that the actually is a little crazy so it can give him some more character development, maybe with a caring Belle?  I did have to mention this because of the new bit with Rumple “spinning,” Ok that’s not how you spin.  The raw material goes from your hand onto the bobbin. You don’t pull it out like that.  I’m a spinner myself.  I live on a small farm in New Hampshire with a flock of sheep.  I spin while watching the show and I spin while listening to your podcast.  A huge pet peeve of mine is that they never bothered to teach Robert Carlyle how to spin at all.  Every single time a spinning wheel is on the show something is wrong.  The most obvious instance is with his great wheel where the whole point of having a huge wheel like that is the mechanical advantage but the drive band went around the hub of the wheel making the whole thing pointless.  I digress, spinning is just important to me and to have a character that I LOVE who also loves spinning and then have him doing it obviously wrong all the time is a bummer.
Anyway I love your show.  Keep up the good work.
