From listener Ken in the Steveston area,

He gives us a short weather report from Vancouver “Weather has been awesome here this winter ….. unusually warm (50 – 65 F daytime) ….. mowed the lawn twice already … cherry blossoms are out as well as crocuses and beginning of daffodils. Only snow we got was a couple of days in November.”

From Giennie

Hello Jeff and Colleen!

First I would like to say that I am a long time listener and fan of your podcast and I can’t WAIT till you are back on so I can listen.. your shows are are one of my favorites to listen to. 🙂 Thank you so much for doing them 🙂

The reason why I am writing is that some friends of mine and I have launched a CS T-shirt charity campaign and we are doing our best to get the word out to help raise not only money for this charity but also awareness of something that is prevelant in our time but never really focused on as it should be…suicide awareness.

We have designed a beautiful CS T-Shirt to sell as a T-shirt, tank or hoodie to help raise money for them:
https://represent.com/captain-swan-charity-campaign-for-sosad

The charity SOSAD(Save Our Sons And Daughters) is an Ireland-registered suicide prevention charity and that Colin O’Donoghue supports and all the proceeds from this campaign go directly to them

www.sosadireland.ie

This group has 6 locations, including Colin’s hometown of Drogheda.
The charity’s five main goals are to raise awareness of suicide in Ireland, break the taboo surrounding suicide, provide support and direction to those feeling suicidal, provide support and direction to those approached by someone feeling suicidal, and to provide support and direction for those bereaved by suicide.
It’s a great cause to support. The need to help those who can’t help themselves has become more prevalent everyday around the world.

Our campaign will end on March 21st.

Sincerely Giennie D

CS Tshirt revised

The charity helped by this effort is an Ireland suicide prevention charity called SOSAD (Save Our Sons and Daughters) supported by Colin O’Donoghue.

Thank you for alerting me that there was a book of 101 Dalmatians. I’m reading now. Cruella’s hubby is indeed in it, and Cruella mentions that she made him change his last name to hers. Love it!

From Aubrey

I think there is a small small chance that the author is Henry in the future writing down everyone’s stories because he knows them all and sends the book back in time or something to himself, so that he can believe and help Emma believe. But that probably is way off.

Nice to see Snow doubting people, it’s refreshing for her character, *instead of* giving them a second chance.

The Chernabog was after Emma because of her potential for evil, interesting, most be tying to the theme of what really makes a villain and what is good and evil. Interesting how Snow and Charming threatened Ursula and Cruella! I really want to know what happened in the enchanted forest!

Chris

I just have to say, as a big disney and fantasia fan, the reveal that the dark curse came from Bald Mountain was one of my favorite reveals so far in the show, and Chernabog was awesome!! Also Victoria Smurfit is killing it as Cruella… Spot on!! (see what i did there?) Awesome episode, 8.5/10 clucks

Hi Colleen and Jeff, (ladies first sir J),

Great to have you back for the season return…like a comfy blanket on long cold day!

Here are some of my thoughts. I loved this return! They answered some questions and gave us some fun new stuff. Oh…Colleen, the old curse (Regina’s) was that you lose memories when you cross the line, this new curse is that you can’t come back once you leave, (Ingrid’s curse), but you do remember who you are, I remember you asking in the last podcast…

Hero’s going dark, villains trying to be good…sounds cool to me! Very OUAT to flip the script so I think it will be very interesting…seeing Regina be the moral compass over the Charming’s was great! This is some secret for them to break character, it will cause mistrust with Emma and help turn her to the dark side I think. I have a straaaange feeling that Lilly is somehow involved in all this-but I don’t know how. I can’t wait!

Cruella is the best! How great was her green breath power??? Just like the movie with her green cigarette smoke…thought that was brilliant! Love her one-liners, but Regina asking “how a plate of uncooked calamari got the dark ones cell phone” was priceless!

A couple things did make me go hmmmm…WHY DID THEY LET THEM KEEP THE SCROLL? You do want your boyfriend back right? Kind of convenient and we need some scroll rules for sure. Ladies, always be sure to check for sneaky black smoke that releases evil devil dogs that seek the heart of potential darkness!! J Blue is still very evasive. She knows more and I think she will end up as being someone very important when this whole show ends. Why didn’t they ask her what’s going on in the hat? No one was curious? Hook is so upset about sucking the apprentice in there, but never asked about him?

Last. I hope that all 3 of these villainesses don’t end up dying this season. I would like to see some true redemption. Does Rumpel ever have a consequence? Ugh…I hope he doesn’t get the dagger back…I want Regina to have control over the dagger-she is the only trust worthy one there right now, how ironic!

Can’t wait to see how this all starts playing out…looking like a great 4B!! Big Love to both of you and all the Oncer’s listening-ttya next week! Trace

From Brad

Hi guys, it’s great to have the show back and to hear the podcast again. I hope life is treating you well and that you both are having a cluckidy cluck cluck day! Now, unto the things I learned this week on the episode, Darkness on the Edge of Town.

#1. Halitosis and Cruella go great
together.

#2. Henry will never win the
perfect attendance award for
his school.

#3. Make sure you stock up on
Ramen when the Dark One
comes to visit.

#4. Why go through the annoying
hassle of using your hands to
remove pictures off the wall,
when you can just burn them
off.

#5. There is a good possibility that
Snow consumed alcoholic
beverages while on the job as
mayor.

#6. De Vil’s driving instructor must
have accepted bribes.

#7. The “E” word should not be
thrown around flippantly.

#8. Getting the smell of fish out of
your dress is one of the many
hardships of being a fairy tale
character.

#9. There is no redemption for a
dwarf named Evil-y.

#10. Anton has finally made a
name for himself outside of
Storybrooke.

Colleen’s Theory about the author of the book

Each character writes their own story as they make choices and learn things in life.

From Chris

Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap what an episode!! Ingrid and her sisters were very cute together. Im glad Helga isnt related to anyone, or anyone we know (cough, cough bells mom). Once again we see someone go to Rumple and it ends badly. I really love how the progression of they’re story made sense, and the tragic end to it really makes me sympathize with Ingrid more. It kind of surprised me that Gerta trapped Ingrid in the urn, i thought they’re love was stronger than that, but I can see it, given the horrific circumstances. I found it fascinating how this was almost a fan fic of how frozen could have turned out!! Is it just me or did Helga look nothing like Emma… Did they forget that point?

Now, outlaw queen… Holy snot im so proud of Regina. I feel like shes almost Snow levels of good now. She deserves Robins choice, but its still sort of jacked up of Robin… Today is not the day I follow my code!! Ok dude!! I suppose he can blame it on him being imbued with much dark liquor (credit for that goes to Daniel Lewis from ONCE podcast, i can’t take credit for his genius)

Anyway, Emmas Lord of the Rings reference was genius! Aurora and her “devil box”, shes really getting acquainted with our technology!! We see Ashley for no reason for the first time in forever (sing it!!) They completely trolled us when Robin asked Will what happened to Anastasia and he just gave no answer at all, but troll of the week goes to Gold…tricking Henry with the magical potion of furniture polish, and black cat at that!

Ingrid using Emmas jealously about her brother and uncertainty about her parents to set her powers off… Shes so wickedly twisted!! Even though i get her somewhat now, shes still coo-coo for cocoa puffs!! Her look when Emma blew out the wall was priceless!! She looked completely bat crap insane in that scene! Ive been saying all along she will become the best villain yet and I really feel vindicated after this episode. Elizabeth Mitchell is so talented!! Why does she want her ribbons back, what did she tell Rumple that he could have been so gleeful to have to do? Overall This was my favorite episode this year 4.8 out of 5 Shattered sister’s – Chris Tipton

—————

From Chris

Ivd been racking my brain all morning, and ive finally come up with something. What if Rumple has to find the actual sorcerer, who is the real owner of the hat, and kill him. Rumple may or may not already know who it is. One the original owner is dead, Rumple can have full ownership and full control of its power. Thats my pet theory and im sticking to it!! – chris tipton

From Brad

Hello Jeff and Colleen, here are the things I learned this week on the episode, The Snow Queen.

1). The statement “We will never look
at you as a monster” actually
means, we will DEFINITELY look
at you as a monster someday.

2). When the power goes out,
choose which candle you use
carefully.

3). The sheriff’s station has a ‘newly
installed’ back entrance.

4). Every child knows his mom’s
“scary face”.

5). It always starts with a dance.

6). Gold’s shop has the cleanest
floors in town.

7). If you ever need to distract Hook,
just give him a mirror.

8). If you need a partner for darts,
let Robin down easy.

9). Don’t underestimate the power of
furniture polish.

10). Emma never has to worry about
a cold cup of coffee.

OBSERVATIONS

OPERATION MONGOOSE

Do Henry and Regina really think they can pull this off without Gold realizing it? This is the Dark One, he knows everything! Including who walks into his shop without ever turning around. He either wants it to happen or doesn’t care. It reminds me of trying to trick your parents when you were young. They somehow always knew. If Henry ends up using the hat, it’s all part of Gold’s plan.

INGRID

What makes Ingrid a villain? What I mean by this, is what has she done with evil intent that cannot be reversed? She froze Hans and Marion but neither of them were killed. We assume she erased Emma and Elsa’s memory and did something with Anna but have not yet been given any proof. She made Emma feel like her parents feared her but that won’t last. So far, all of these things are redeemable. Her sister doesn’t count because that was an accident. If you look at the whole picture, she’s really not that evil. In fact, Gerda trapping her in the urn and erasing everyone’s memory of her is worse in my opinion. Also Regina and Gold have done far more evil things than she ever has, just saying.

THE PRICE OF MAGIC

I agree with you Jeff, the price for Gerda erasing everyone’s memory is more than likely, Elsa being born with the same powers as her trapped and forgotten sister. This way, she would never forget what she did to her.

CYRIL KEEP

When Emma and Elsa are in the Sherff’s Station, Emma gives Elsa a book that tells about a spell that can trap Ingrid. Before she lays it down though, for a brief second, there is a transcript that can be seen. Here it was it says:

Interview/Transcript
CYRIL KEEP
Q. What’s your name?
A. Cyril Kemp
Q. What do you do for a living Cyril?
A. I am an unemployed math
teacher. I receive a small disability
pension. It’s because of this
problem I have.
Q. What problem do you have?
A. Something in myself when I sleep.
The dream, you know.
Q. Do you have a criminal record?
A. No
Q. Where do you live?
A. I live in a homeless shelter.
Q. Do you know this boy?
A. Yes, I know him. I saw him playing
Q. Did you take this boy with you?
A. It was me that took him, yes. You
should say that. It was me.
Q. Took who?
A. The boy in the park. I don’t know
why. Anger I suppose.
Q. Where is the boy now?
A. I don’t know.
Q. Where did you hide him?
A. I don’t know. I don’t know.
Q. You said that you took the boy.
Where did you take the boy?
A. (Refuses to answer).
Q. Cyril, where did you take this
boy?
I have no idea what this transcript is, I
just thought it was really weird.

GOLDEN BIRD

As Regina flipped through the book, she saw a picture of Snow and Charming, Cinderella and Thomas and right before Robin and Marion, we see an image of the Golden Bird story. We have seen this story multiple times in the book. I don’t think it has any significance, I just find it interesting that they use it all the time.

THOR’S HAMMER

Yes, it was shown again in Rumpelstilskin castle.

EMMA’S TATTOO

There was a obvious shot of Emma’s tattoo in this episode. I feel we may learn it’s importance soon.

THE PACT

The sisterly pact, which said, “As long as we hold these ribbons, we will be there for each other, we’ll never be alone” was broken once Ingrid gave her ribbon to Rumpelstiltskin. She forgot the importance of what they stood for and I believe this weakened her bond with her sisters, or at least with Gerda. So when it came down to remembering the pact, all Gerda saw was a monster.

TURNING TO ICE

In the movie Frozen, Anna did not turn into ice right away when her heart was frozen. Marion’s body instantly froze, then it moved to her heart. Once the ice reached it, Regina said she would not be able to be saved. Then when Helga is hit in the heart, she falls apart! What are the rules of being frozen because I have no idea!?!?!?

INGRID AND THE URN

From the time Ingrid gets sucked into the urn and then released by Hans, there is a dramatic change in her personality. I thought maybe that something else had happened before this but she is wearing the same outfit. I would think she would still feel remorse and want to make amends but time in the urn seems to have made her bitter and jaded.

MOMMY SUPPORT GROUP

Although I loved seeing Ashley and Aurora again, I wish they could have been used more intricately in the show. We go from not seeing Ashley in forever, to pretending like she’s always been there. It’s the one thing that really bothers me about the show. The Blue Fairy should be helping with Ingrid but she’s completely vanished as well and nobody seems to have noticed. It’s so frustrating when you love these characters so much!

THEORIES

INGRID’S WHISPER TO GOLD

Theory #1: Gold needs to use the hat to take away Ingrid’s, Elsa or Emma’s power in order to her the hat to work.

Theory #2: He needs the heart of the thing he despises the most.

Theory #3: The owner of the hat needs to die or be killed in order for a new owner to obtain it’s ultimate power.

BURNING QUESTIONS

Do you think the ribbons posses power to make someone love you?

Is Helga really gone? If there is a way for her to return, this would be all that Ingrid would need to turn back to the way she used to be.

– Brad

From Maii

Hey guys! Hope you had a lovely week, my week was actually pretty great, very good episodes in my shows, great spoilers, , changed my hair color and the best I got the paperwork for my degree turned in so I should be getting it around april!

Omf how about that episode?? It was really good definitely was a build-up ep for this week’s but definitely still pretty damn amazing.. I’m going to do something maybe different and try just focus on everything Emma’s storyline (okay maybe that’s not so different from usual but yeah)..Usual Suspects is a fantastic movie.

Flashbacks:

WESELTON!! I loved the callback of the weasel really..

I think this is probably the best villain backstory they have ever written in the show. Why? because unlike Regina or Rumple this one was truly tragic. A truly tragic accident.

The sisters’ relationship was pretty incredible. Helga was by far my favorite and she was the one that calmed Ingrid the most. The story of who they got the gloves and how everything happened broke my heart. I loved seeing Helga stand up for her sister above everything.

I definitely feel like everything could have been avoided had Ingrid been stronger and trusted her sisters instead of handing over the ribbons. That’s where everything went wrong.

Helga was a lot like Killian in the way that they don’t care if the other person has magic or not, they love them all the same. The fact that her biggest supporter got accidentally killed by her. That must have been horrible to witness and Gerda’s reaction was no better.

It kind of sheds some light as to why Ingrid would assume that Anna was in charge of putting Elsa in the urn, after all it’s what happened to her.

This backstory doesn’t excuse Ingrid but it gives you an understanding of why she is the way she is. It makes her an even more interesting villain because she manipulates like no other and firmly believes she’s doing the right thing. Elizabeth Mitchell throws it out of the park with her performances.

Gerda’s price was having Elsa as a daughter.. Also I definitely think the ribbons will come back. She wants them for Emma and Elsa and that worries me.

Current Time:

Sidenote before I get into the meta of it all, Belle trying to protect Killian from the mirror was just too precious for words.

I don’t get why they would leave Emma alone with the Snow Queen I think that was definitely their first mistake. I loved how Killian and Charming automatically just shared a look and left knowing Emma would be in trouble. The scene at Gold’s is also very important because it’s Killian once again calling out Gold on his shadiness.

The scene with the streetlamp, this scene is so important. I’m going to have another section on Snow so I’m not getting into that here so first: blocking.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before but my degree is in Com specialized in Film. So I got basically trained in a way to notice this sort of things, blocking, scene direction, etc etc.

When the streetlight lamp falls Emma is on one side and the rest are on the other. Killian is on her side of the lamp post as well.. Charming, Snow and Henry are right behind the lamp post.

Elsa and Rumbelle are pretty far behind, although Elsa is closer. Elsa and Rumple know what out of control magic can do so they obviously are standing back. The charmings are right behind the lamp post meaning they are close but there’s a barrier between them and Emma, something preventing them from getting closer.

Killian is on the same side, and he’s reaching out. Killian will be the only one to manage to get through to her. He loves her and all that she represents, he loves the savior, the lost girl, his swan.

This episode makes a lot of emphasis on hands, the sisters hold hands, Gerda refuses to hold Ingrid’s hand, Emma’s hands seem to be the cause of the magic going haywire… you know who else had a big emphasis on hands? Captain Swan. Throughout the eps this season they had a big show of making us see CS holding hands or touching in some way. He helps her control the magic and even in this ep he reaches out for her. He doesn’t want to let her go. He reaches out even after she runs because he doesn’t care.

He and Charming are the only ones to get close to to her. They don’t care what she is, they love her all the same.

Killian Jones is about to be crushed by a falling street lamp and he doesn’t even know. He’s just standing there watching his Swan, hurting for her. All he wants to do is help her. And he can’t. And he feels so helpless because she is frightened and he can’t do anything about it. It’s chaos around him and he’s focused on Emma.

And Charming? We all know he loves his daughter more than life itself. And I think in this instance the falling lamp post is what gets his attention. Not because it’s going to fall on him. Not because it’s going to fall on Emma. Because it’s going to fall on Killian, on the man who is making his daughter happy.

My beautiful Adriane and her extremely beautiful metas just say the things I want to say in a much eloquent manner.

http://sheriffswan.tumblr.com/post/102237387249/emma-swan-4×07-thinky-thoughts

Emma being afraid of her magic isn’t seeing Emma going back to her old ways, it’s actually seeing Emma trying to deal with who she is once again, so far, Emma has only tried to use her magic to protect people, now she needs to get a hand on it all.

This is the classical kind of step for the hero: the passage where they need to deal with the “darker” side of her magic, the thing is, the only dark side in Emma is actually her inability to trust herself. She came a long way, she started trusting her son, her parents, her lover, Killian, but now, she needs to trust herself.

Ultimately, while Emma is surrounded by people she loves and who loves her, she needs to get in that place where she knows she can do it and believes in her own skills.

This is certainly not an easy thing to do and wont be easy for her to move past those issues of her, it won’t be easy seeing how the Snow Queen is pushing the right buttons. More seriously, the Snow Queen pushes further by actually putting her own issues on Emma. In a way the Queen is right, they are a lot alike except that everyone gave up of her when Emma’s family isn’t and won’t.

Emma’s arc now will be all about trying to move past this wall herself, it’s believing in herself, believing in the love of others and knowing that yes, she is not alone and not a monster.

Today, Emma was reminded that she could very much be a monster, and she doesn’t need to think much to picture it: she saw Rumple, she saw Regina, Zelena, Pan, and now the Snow Queen, and if Emma learned one thing it’s that those people didn’t start as wrong persons but at some point things went wrong.

Emma saw the fear in her loved ones’ eyes when they faced monsters, people she herself considered to be monster, but now, she saw the exact same thing in her mother’s life.

Again, this seems to be the main piece of the puzzle, Emma’s mother, she always missed that figure in her life, and definitely has an issue with Snow right now. She saw her mother being scared of her, in a way she was scared of other villains, other monsters.

Emma didn’t believe the Snow Queen when she said she was also a monster for her family, but she is definitely starting to believe it because of Snow.

I truly hope that they will address this issue because the potential is huge and the next episodes are just going to be excellent if they keep going like that. And there’s of course, no way that Killian and Henry won’t be a huge part of that arc. Next episodes showed us that both Henry and Killian being presently active for her to bring her back home – once again.

More importantly, it seems that the two people who accept her as she is will do everything to bring her back home safely.

-Snow-

If there’s one relationship they have let fall down the drain it’s Snow/Emma. They focused on Regina/Snow rather than Snow/Emma and a result there’s a severe lack of understanding on both sides (Starting in the Echo Cave when Snow mentioned it wasn’t what she wanted) . This episode though Snow was the one in the wrong.

The 2nd scene is more shocking but in a way it’s understandable, it’s a gut reaction, your kid does something bad and even if they don’t mean it you react. You could see she regretted it the moment she saw Emma’s face but for me the really really bad moment was the first one.

First there’s the 1st time mother comment which must have stung, not only for Emma as a daughter but as a mother as well.. Because she wasn’t able to all this with Henry. She ignored it and was all happy to babysit her little brother. Then the mishap happened and I was appalled at Snow. So this is the Snow that has her kid all around town with Regina and Rumple and Ingrid, Ruby etc and she doesn’t mind. But when it comes to her daughter she flinches?? She doesn’t just flinch she backs away and holds baby Charming closer to her. Emma would never hurt her little brother and Snow’s reaction was really bad.

“We failed Charming” NO.. WE didn’t fail. YOU failed Snow. Charming loves his daughter above all else. He went after her when she was freaking out and then he accompanied Elsa and Killian to go look for Emma. You stayed home and didn’t realize you had screwed up until Elsa pointed it out.Charming did NOT fail, because Charming had no fear he actually went after her. This one was on Snow.

I don’t really agree with the OQ scene because it was like hey here are all the reasons why my Marian was amazing, let me go have sex with her murderer…

Since the beginning of the show Emma and Regina were shown to be mirror each other. Light and dark, good and evil, parenting styles. So it make sense that their love interest are the same as well.

Hook started of as a man of honor, only to become a man without honor because of first love (he had a code as a pirate, but at the lost of Milah, he truly became a man w/o honor). Soon after meeting emma, he starts to become a man of honor again.

Robin started out as man w/o honor, only became a man with honor because of his first love, Marian, made him become a better man. After meeting Regina, he slowly starting to turn back to the man he once was, a man w/o honor.

Captain Swan:

So as to Jeff’s question:

I’m posting this under the CS part because it’s something that basically struck a chord with most shippers. We are all pretty sure Ingrid whispered something to Rumple about Killian.

Rumple responded with “With great pleasure” and there’s nothing that would give him more pleasure than hurting Killian Jones. He’s the only person other than Ingrid that knows about all of Rumple’s lies and the deal with the hat. Rumple absolutely loathes him and very much his enemy still. Also it helps out the Snow Queen because while she might have succeeded in alienating Emma from her family, Killian is a different matter. He’s a variable she didn’t expect, she didn’t think his love for her was that strong. She needs to get him out of the way if she ever wants Emma to be vulnerable enough to need to come to her. As long as Killian Jones is in the picture, Ingrid will never get her way. He is Emma’s person, he’s her true love and he has proven to not be afraid of her. He encourages her magic and Ingrid saw the reaction he had on her magic in the beginning of the season. The only way to truly crumble Emma Swan’s defenses is to take Killian Jones from her.

My friend Laura is evil bc she posted this after the ep: What if it’s like, true love’s sacrifice or something?

Like, Rumple’s actually going to manipulate things in such a way that Killian gets sucked into the hat in Emma’s place because he’s trying to protect her.

It would make perfect sense that to unlock the true potential of the hat there would have to be an actual of pure unselfish love. Who have proven to have pure unselfish love and devotion? Captain Swan

For the Belle thing, he’s already killed people and she doesn’t find out, so it’s probably not a big factor.

I figured I’d post this separately from the Emma ones because it was a very curious comment. It’s regarding the family comment during the talk with Ingrid.

http://legen-waitforit-married.tumblr.com/post/102436767124/i-have-been-seeing-many-of-my-fellow-cser-say-that

I have been seeing many of my fellow CSer say that when Emma says “400 years”, she could also mean Rumplestiltskin. But we would like to think that it’s Killian.

However, I just wanted to point out that it is pretty canon on the show that she meant Killian. When Elsa asked if any of her “family” had magic, she said no. Well guess what? Rumple has magic. If Emma considered Rumple as her family, she would have said yes. But she didn’t.

And this both scenes are from the same episode. It means that ofcourse the writers had in mind what Emma would consider as her “family”. Besides in last week’s promo, when they said “family”, they showed Snowing and Emma with Killian. This was an official promo, by ABC. And let’s not forget that she has been making comments about Killian’s age for the past three episodes, skipping 4×05.

It is pretty canon that she meant Snowing, herself (2nd generation), Henry, and Killian.

But you know that’s all just the technical part of this.

What I think is so beautiful is that Emma already considers Killian as her family. It just goes to show how strong her feelings for him already were before she even accepted that she has feelings for him. You do not make someone your family just like that. Making someone a part of your family means that you are comfortable with that person, you respect their opinions, you respect them, and most importantly, you love them. Family is your home and Emma truly believes that Killian is her home, along with her parents and her son.

It took Emma two whole seasons to let Killian in, but once she did, she did whole-heartedly. She didn’t measure their love and said that how can he be family when I just started dating him. No. Once she let him in, she let all her feelings for him just FLOW. And I think the exact moment that she realized that he was family was in 4×02, when charming gave that “this family always finds each other and never likes to give up” speech. Because she knows that Killian found her in NYC and he never gave up on her, even when she gave up on herself. And here I am especially talking about 3×22 moment, when she gave up on her magic but it was Killian’s faith that she can do it, that made her do it. She wanted to run and hide and never look back because she was scared to embrace happiness. But Killian never gave up on her and made her realize that she deserves happiness and brought her home. And she knows that she would do the same for him whenever he needs her.

I think it is really beautiful, the way the writers are writing their journey. I mean it’s just that how all these moments which are beautiful individually, but when you connect these moments and form a bigger picture, you see how beautiful their relationship is and how beautiful this journey has been. Killian Jones is Emma’s best friend and a part of her family, and that is what makes their relationship so organic and rich, in my opinion.

There’s a great parallel storyline happening with Killian and Emma. The interactions with Emma/Ingrid in this episode were very similar to the ones between Killian and Gold during the Apprentice.

They were both manipulated into thinking they are monsters and they just want to protect those they love.

Amazing Parallel gif set regarding Killian/Gold and Emma/Ingrid

Poor Snow. She wants to be out fighting bad guys, not cooped-up watching a crib “not” get put together; boring!
Mr. Smee dreaming of cheese. Hilarious.
Stay off the sidewalks in StoryBrooke. What’s next? Is David going to let Henry shot his police hand gun? David should know he can’t compete with a guy that dresses as a pirate.
So does Hook scam all his meals with a pair of loaded dice?
Hook back in the Enchanted Forest keeps yearning and referencing “her”. Don’t need to get hit over the head with a piece of wood to understand what that is all about.
Best Scene – Really enjoy how its been established that Regina is now part of the family. No one blinked an eye when she just walked into the apartment without knocking. Also, when Snow announced dinner at Granny’s, they didn’t have to ask Regina, as it’s now expected she is invited. It was great to see her sitting with the Charmings, Emma, and Henry.
Going forward –
When Hook was looking through his spyglass in Mr. Gold’s shop, he scanned a black and white photo of a lady with an early 1900’s hair style. Nothing on this show seems to happen by chance, so why show the photo? Does this woman have a connection to maybe Zelena?
So is Emma more powerful than Zelena?

Email points:

Daniel in regards to “It’s not easy being Green”

Hey Jeff and Colleen!
Before I get into the comments, let me just say that my kids think I do a GREAT Kermit voice!  😉  If another OUAT episode is titled “Songs about Rainbows”, I’ll try to leave voice feedback w/a rendition!
Now, (1) Purple blanket and green ribbon, same colors as The Joker!  (AGAIN!),

as well as (2) Yes Jeff, I saw the Dutch angles too!  All we needed were the fight scene captions “POW!!”  “BAM!!”  “BIFF!!”  “WHAM!!!”

(3) Zelena’s foster father paraphrasing the Dark Knight Joker with, “Put on a good face,” or “Let’s put a SMILE on that face!”
(4) Zelena’s foster mother kind of reminds me of Martha Kent (esp. from “Smallville”), seeing the child as a gift.
(5) Yup, the funeral, Rumple felt every shovel full of dirt hitting the coffin, aka, Yoda feeling every Jedi that was killed in Revenge of the Sith.
(6) Finally,  Zelena, coming in at Grannie’s like in Munchkin Land, out of nowhere!!  All she needed to do was fly off on her broomstick and write “SURRENDER REGINA!!!”  in the sky!!
Peace,
Dan

Have you guys noticed that everyone who has been involved with or encountered Zelena this season has green eyes? It is creepy and I have been noticing it more and more. Hook used to be one of the last hold outs, but after his encounter with Zelena his eyes were green. Is it just me or am I just seeing too much green and making this up?

In the show the writers have designed Zelena’s character to put it nicely as a plain jane. This is not to say that I don’t like the actress. I have seen other pictures of her and she is gorgeous. Zelena’s makeup is not dramatic like the other characters and I wonder why. It may be me, but it doesn’t even seem pretty which is why I wondered about Rumple’s letter to Cora. He said that Zelena was stunning. Zelena’s character is not shown to be stunning and it seems like it is on purpose. Is it possible that Zelena may be enchanting people? Maybe that is why her adopted father was scared of her? Did he see something in her eyes? Come to think about she always stares people directly in the eyes when she talks to them and does not break contact.

It is sad that Hook is finally getting what he wants from Emma, but has to back off. Do you think he will take Smead up on his offer to leave Storybrooke in an attempt to save Emma and Storybrooke?

I find it strange that Henry can’t hear everyone whispering around him? He must have caught something.

David and Mary Margaret are the typical grandparents. It is so cute that they want to be fun.

Zelena must have known that Bae her older brother died. Shouldn’t she feel something? Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but maybe she thinks this new curse will bring him back. Also why didn’t she help? If she knows everything going on in the town surely knew that Bae was dying. If she wanted a family so bad why would she not help Bae?

I wonder what Zelena would be like if she had met Bae or Regina before Rumple. If she met Bae she wouldn’t be as needy because he would have showered her with love. If she met Regina they probably would have been really good friends. If she had tried to meet her family she wouldn’t be what she calls wicked today.

I think Zelena wants to go back in time to meet Cora. I think that Cora took her heart out so that she could give up Zelena. Any mother would struggle to give up her child. As Cora said love is weakness. Her love for Rumple and Zelena made her weak so she got rid of them. I also think that she tried to save Zelena from Rumple.

Zelena doesn’t look like Rumple to me. She looks more like the King in the palace that told Cora not to run off with the imp. Henry’s father

Hello Jeff and Colleen, here are the Things I Learned this week in the episode, Jolly Roger.

#1. The best part of being a rat is the
       mobility.

#2. Decoding enemy battle plans is
      nothing compared to building a
      baby crib.

#3. You better have fresh coffee when
going on a stakeout with Regina.

#4. Smee’s torso is not built for out
      running flying monkeys.

#5. Emma doesn’t yearn.

#6. Regina’s spell book does not
       include Spanish cuisines.

#7. Rumple doesn’t suffer fools.

#8. Sheriffs don’t worry about
      legalities.

#9. Hook’s spyglass has been
      cleaned since Neverland.

#10. Zelena needs to learn the
        boundaries of intimate space
        while talking with people.

Here are some Observations and Burning Questions.

OBSERVATIONS:

Blackbeard tells Hook, “If you want your ship back, then take it.” This is similar to the conversation Hook had with Rumple in The Crocodile, “If you truly want your wife back, all you have to do is take her”. I guess what goes around comes around.

Blackbeard reminded me more of Captain Hook from the Disney movie.

When I first saw that Ariel was back, I thought they may start including her in more episodes which would have been excellent! But when we see that it’s really just Zelina, it was clear that this was her wrap up storyline. Why else would Regina push Emma to use the mirror magically?  All we had to go on was Zelena’s word, so we had to physically see that she was telling the truth in order for there to be no doubt. It looks like she may no longer be “part of our world”.

The claw that Emma picked up made me think of “The other fairytale show of that which we do not speak”. In the episode Bears Will Be Bears, a ceremonial claw called a Jagerbar was used.

Regina looked very concerned when she thought Emma fell to her death on the bridge. This is a different woman than the one who was willing to sacrifice Emma and Snow in the well portal in season two.

The episode title card had David’s truck driving through, which is odd because it only played a minor part in the story. I figured it would have had something to do with Ariel, Blackbeard or the Jolly Roger.

Zelena as Ariel made a point to say “After Pan failed”, which is funny because during the first half of the season, all we heard was how Pan never fails. How crazy would it be if both of them teamed up!

Hook said, “few people have held a dagger to my throat and lived to tell the tale”. The most notable one that comes to mind, is Emma, when she first met him in The Crocodile.

Burgers and beer is only $4.99 at Granny’s.

While I was watching The Empire Strikes Back the other night, I heard the Emperor tell Vader, “His compassion for you will be his undoing”. You probably caught this a long time ago but this was the first time I connected it with Once Upon A Time.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

If Zelena is successful in her second chance. We may get a “what if Regina never cast the curse” for a season 4. What things would be different? Would the world be better or worse without Regina?

In Skin Deep, when Belle kissed Rumpel, his Dark One curse started to break. If Belle kisses him again, would it free him from Zelena’s power?

Who wrote the book and where is it?
Will it be the key to bringing back Henry’s memories? Did anybody check Mary Margaret’s closet yet?

Was the picture in gold shop possibly his mother?

That’s it for this week.

Lina

Hi guys! Love your show. My husband and kids and I are huge oncers.  Think you make a great couple.
I had a thought regarding the whole Hook having to kiss Emma. If the wicked witch wanted to really force Hook to kiss her she could put Emma in a sleeping curse. That would be a lose/lose situation for him because only a true loves kiss would wake her but as a side effect Emma  would lose her powers that would suck!
Anyway I can’t believe season 3 almost over!!

Take care,
Lina

Aleana

I like this episode love the scenes between Regina teaching Emma magic love that Regina was mad that Emma is wasting her talents love seeing Ariel back but I knew Zelena was Ariel in the shop because when she was telling Belle I know your working on trying to get Rumple away from Zelena and when her and Hook following the cloak and went into the water because why wouldn’t she go in the water and see where the cloak went she just assume Prince Eric was dead love the fight scene with Hook and Blackbeard we need more sword fighting in this show love the scene with Grandpa Charming teaching Henry to drive even though

(Instead of driving) I wish Charming taught Henry about sword fighting and Henry has a deja vu moment saying wow I know how to sword fight they could’ve have the Blue fairy conjure up a fake battlefield in the woods or park have Snow teach Henry how to shoot arrows I know Snow pregnant but I’m pretty sure she can still shoot arrows

Love Regina Emma and Snow saying No to Henry when he ask to drive to Granny Love seeing Regina being part of the family and being comfortable walking in the Charmings apartment having dinner with them at the end you can tell she getting use to being with them hope we see more of that Even though I’m not a CaptainSwan shipper I don’t get the hype I felt sorry for Hook I love Hook just don’t like Emma and Hook even though I like Henry in this episode I’m ready for him to get his memory back already.
My question is since Zelena curse Hook lips and if he kiss Emma her magic would go away but if Emma kiss him would it have the same effect now we know Zelena can’t killed Emma and I believe Rumple or Regina can’t either does this means Emma is more powerful then all of them does this also mean Charmings baby is just as powerful as Emma and that why Zelena want the baby and also assume she wants Prince Phillip and Aurora baby too because the writers had said that Charmings baby and Aurora baby supposed to collide So Zelena can’t hurt Emma but can hurt the people she loves if that the case why didn’t she had Walsh kidnapped or hurt Henry why they was in New York I think she can’t hurt Henry either and her threats are just empty threats look forward to listening

Hi Jeff and Colleen,
In your Jolly Roger podcast you said you were surprised that Regina just walked into the Charmings’ apartment without knocking. My impression was that she had already been in the room and was just outside the door casting the protection spell. Her magic potion box is on the table when she walks in and she’s holding two vials that she puts back in the box.

This episode just killed me it was so wonderful and perfect and it hurts and we got practical confirmation of Captain Swan TL. I love the Regina and the Charmings (Charming can beat a dragon, monsters, evil queens, etc but he is bested by ikea) but I will dedicate this to Killian Jones..
In the past year:
Killian as a Knight -> It’s something that Robin Hood would do, and the voice was very deep and it was perfect. Plus hint back to the dolls.. Killian can now fill both the knight and the lieutenant
Ariel in the flashback was perfect. She saw right through his bs.
“A fake reputation is all a man has” He didn’t want her screwing up the only thing he still has.
Snow -> when she took that potion to forget Charming, she was terrible to everyone around her and was prepared to kill Regina
Charming -> When he thought Snow didn’t love him he was reckless to the point of suicidal
Killian -> Went back to that ruthless pirate who cares for no one but himself, he did it because he literally thought he had nothing left. He thinks all that has got left is the Jolly Roger. But he’s still deeply in love with Emma he can’t even have sex with a hooker.

Honestly? He doesn’t know Ariel or Eric he owes them nothing.
It’s a blurred line if Hook is talking about his ship or Emma a lot in these flashbacks. It’s important to know that most sailors refer to their vessels as ‘she’ and ‘her’ but I think he’s clearly projecting just a little too hard here.
Killian Jones tried to go back to being Captain Hook but he couldn’t. It IS NOT because he is a pirate. It IS NOT because he is without the Jolly Roger, his ship, home and heart.IT IS simply because he has become a hero. He is no longer that double crossing pirate that Emma encountered in the Enchanted Forest. Killian is a hero. He reunites families and believes in happy endings. This was a character trait he ALWAYS possessed but was only brought in him when Emma inspired him to be good. When Emma pulled out Killian Jones who was buried under Captain Hook. When he allowed his heart to fall in love with Emma Swan.
Killian Jones will never be the persona of Captain Hook again.

J- Those we love can spur us on to be better than we are.

Blackbeard: He looked like Cartoon Hook, so technically Killian Jones was fighting the pirate version of himself.
Honestly I think we will see him again, the ship was docked, he looked a little too happy to be pushed/jump, and we didn’t see his body

J – Will we see Blackbeard again? Maii reminds us.

“No body no dead”
Storybrooke:
The Captain Charming and Captain Cobra were perfect. Hook teaching Henry to cheat and using Fries as chips, priceless.
Zelena mentions spies: I would bet my rations on one of them being Smee, they spent a lot of time mentioning how much of a rat he is, even after being turned back into a human.

J – Makes sense, because he is disillusioned with Hook.

Killian Jones was trying to right his wrongs and trying to be a stand up guy. He was trying to be a man of honor and help Ariel after he had screwed her over and he was used for it. He screwed over everything without meaning to.
“I do still believe in love”
after 300+ years, losing Liam, Milah, Bae, the Jolly Roger, and Emma (not to mention, for the short term, now her/his family and son and home in Storybrooke) Killian Jones still believes in love
And this is why he’s such an inspirational character even after all the hardness of his life he still believes he still has hope.

J – In the jaded day we live, how many times can a person start over and try to be better? Is there a point when its too late?

Captain Swan:
We learn that Killian Jones is a swooning fangirl. I mean pretending to faint/be unconscious during the fight with Cora? We see what you are doing.
http://exquisitelyfortunate.tumblr.com/post/82672500044/underrated-captain-swan-moment-8
Emma has maintained for a while that all she needs to be happy is Henry. She’s only now beginning to see how wrong she is about that.
In the wake of losing Emma, Hook thought all he needed to be happy was the Jolly Roger. When Ariel leaves, hurt and betrayed, he realizes he was wrong.
In Straight on til Morning, they paralleled Hook making the wrong choice in Neverland (handing Bae over to the Lost Boys) with him making the right one in Storybrooke (coming back with the bean).
The same thing happens in The Jolly Roger, where Hook tries to make amends for a terrible mistake that he regrets.

J – Regrets like the tree. Regrets hold you back.

Only this time, he gets tricked by the villain, who uses his feelings for Emma and his guilt and shame against him.
To break this cycle…they need to confront their feelings. Both of them. Emma has to finally own up to what she feels for Killian and accept that he’s just as much a part of her happy ending as Henry is. Killian needs to trust in what he feels for her and fully commit himself to the heroic path. It’s a hard road for two people as broken as they are, but it’ll be worth it in the end.
The moment in the mirror is so gorgeous and so important, Emma has to focus on a true love couple being reunited together, and what she sees – and the image that makes her eyes to flutter – is her and Killian together, she sees them together and this is how she finds a way to spark her magic.
Magic is emotion, and here, it’s hope, it’s love, that had Emma doing this.
She used the hope and love of a true love couple to find another one. Her reflection with Killian at her side is what made her make magic
*I swear on Emma Swan*
If anyone ever questions hook’s sincerity after this breathtaking performance by Colin O’Donoghue then I seriously have absolutely no words, look at this man’s genuine remorse, his entire heart is reflected on his face.
There’s no light in his eyes, he feels more terrible than anyone can ever make him feel, his soul is screaming for release through his eyes and he’s holding everything in and there’s no one to comfort him no one to tell him it’s okay. No one to tell him his mistakes have been forgiven and he’ll always hate himself for this because he’s not a terrible man, he’s an honorable one. and all he ever wanted was to hold emma swan and never let her go.
He wanted her to feel the kind of love she deserved and he lost her quicker than he won her heart and missing her destroyed him. Now all he can think about is how he’ll ever be worthy again when he has no idea that she’ll forgive him and she already has because she understands his intentions and she knows his heart she’ll see that the mistake is something he deeply regrets, she’ll heal him by making him feel just as loved as he’s always made her feel.
Plus this makes it so the ball is in her court, she’s going to have to be the one to go after him bc so far it’s been him after her and now he can’t because he loves her and he cares about her family and he doesn’t want them hurt. So he’s gonna be pushing her away and she’s going to have to push back.

Zelena and TLK
Zelena doesn’t understand TLK or maybe she doesn’t trust that Emma loves Killian back bc honestly? Any curse can be broken by TLK.. We already had a failed TLK with CS now comes the real thing.
Or maybe she knew exactly what she was doing and she knew that Killian was going to push Emma away in order to protect her. The same kiss that could take away her curse and bring back EVERYONE’S memories of the Lost Year. There’s something in that last yr that she doesn’t want anyone to know and she is taking every precaution to make sure this doesn’t happen.
I mean she had to know something about Emma, she sent Walsh after all didn’t she? Not only that but we were explicitly told that the Firstborn is more important magic-wise etc and who’s the first born? Emma
CS is the only couple that has all their memories intact they are the only ones that can do this. Zelena had to get them out of the way.

Hook looking at Granny’s
That scene at the end though? do you know why he looks so broken?
because he did it. he finally broke through he walls and found a place into her life- into her heart. without any trickery he has emma swan’s trust and her love. he has a place in her life that she accepts and expects and wants. she wants him in her home and with her family and with her son
but now he can’t. now he is doomed to hurt her. if he kisses her, as he so desperately wants to, he will take what he believes to be the part of that makes her the savior. he thinks he will cause her harm and ruin and make her vulnerable. he thinks he could lead to her death. just. like. milah
and so now he sabotages the only happiness he has. now he is pushing away the people he loves and cares about and wants to be around because he refuses to allow another person he cares about to die

J – We’ve seen Emma build walls to keep love/hurt out and how waiting/pride/living to protect and not deal with the wounds of the past can cause you to miss great things in life by not taking a leap of faith. Life is all about risk, not about hiding from risks. Red flags are a good barometer, but not all life is a red flag.

Hello Jeff and Colleen, here are the things I learned in the episode, It’s Not Easy Being Green.

#1. Geppetto has some major clock tower repair on his hands.

#2. Zelena may have silver slippers but Regina has the ruby red
gloves.

#3. Doc needs to stop parking his Miata in the street.

#4. Never bet Emma in a game of darts.

#5. Kermit the frog still has a chance.

#6. The Wicked Witch of the Wild West is a version of OZ
I definitely want someone to make!

#7. Some conversations aren’t meant for the doorway.

#8. A Sleeping curse while you’re pregnant is never good for the
baby.

#9. Hook’s bringing the sextant back.

#10. Someone’s going to have to start directing traffic on Main
Street, pronto!

Here are some quick theories, observations and burning questions.

THEORIES:

Lots of people are theorizing that Rumpel may be Zelena’s father but what if it’s Walsh? We know he was originally from Kansas. Could he have come through the same cyclone Zelena did? He would have been a much younger man at the time and maybe he wanted to give the baby her best chance by letting another family take care of her. He seemed to know a lot about Cora. Was this from memory or magic?

Zelena said that after her second chance, Regina will have never been born. If she takes Regina’s place, does Zelena then need Snow’s baby to take hers? There may not even be anything special about the Charming’s baby since Aurora and Philip were worried about their baby as well.

Regina’s line about Cora having a love child with a scarecrow could be a reference by the show writers that Rumpelstiltskin is Zelena’s father. It could also be just a clever red herring to throw us off the trail.

OBSERVATIONS:

Blue has been absent since New York Serenade but she did attend the funeral for Neil. She can be seen standing to the right of the group when the camera is looking up from the casket.

I love Robin Hood but did anyone else think the scene of him peeking through the tree was kind of creepy?

Regina and Zelena fighting is exactly what I wished would have happened with Cora. Usually, Regina’s snappy insults are directed towards the heroes on the show so it was great to finally have her on the same side, laying the smack down on Zelena.

Now that we know Walsh is the Wizard, your question “Will Emma be Walsh’s savior too?” is a very good possibility Jeff.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

Did Zelena take over the Emerald City after she transformed Walsh?

We learned that Walsh is being forced to serve Zelena. Could he actually have been in love with Emma? This could complicate matters down the line if it’s true.

—————-

Maii

Hey guys!
I finally have some time to send this email it’s been a long week, but I finally have two weeks off for easter break yey!

As a film student I thought the camera movements were extremely interesting.

Funeral: It was a really powerful scene that started with Hook throwing the dirt because he was the one that knew him best from the people there and ending with Emma who is finally closing that chapter of her life. Plus the cuts to Rumple feeling the dirt make it all the more painful.

Captain Cobra:
Before anything else, it’s necessary to say that their entire journey was threaded with honesty. From the moment they were about to get on the boat, Hook states that he offered to take him. This is the second time they’ve canonically interacted and it’s involved Hook telling Henry the truth, thus validating just how much he values nobility above all things. Additionally, he knows Emma so well, that he tells Henry things he knows Emma would not only approve of, but genuinely be thankful for. And from the moment Henry expressed not being interested in navigating the stars, he told him the truth about Bae’s father’s death. He made sure Henry knew why Emma was doing what she was doing. And he made sure Henry knew great things about Bae.

Earning Emma’s father’s respect is immensely vital in terms of story telling, and Hook was successful in doing so. He and Charming have found a real friendship in one another. And now, Hook and Henry have found a fatherly bond with one another. If that isn’t obvious as to who Emma’s true love is then I don’t know what to say. And the most beautiful part of the friendships Hook’s formed with Emma’s loved ones is that he’s saved both them in ways they needed at the time — his actions were selflessly inspired by his love for Emma. He literally saved Charming’s life, and he saved Henry’s heart by helping him be at ease even for a little while.

Plus I love the fact that he’s like “this one will do” meaning he “borrowed it” which I thought was hilarious

More on this scene: http://vickyvicarious.tumblr.com/post/81946571252/one-of-my-favorite-things-about-this-episode-was

Oz: Oz was wonderful and the GCI was pretty good..I did not expect it to be Walsh I knew he was in the ep but I didn’t realize he was the wizard, on my 2nd watch I noticed that it was his voice and I’m hitting myself for not noticing it heheh.

Emma slept with the wizard of oz turned monkey then turned human again hehehe.

Outlaw Queen: Let’s face it Tinkerbell is us with our OTPs the whole GO TALK TO HIM thing and getting frustrated plus I feel like she truly cares about Regina and her happiness and wants her to finally be happy. (plus her meeting Robin was perfect). When Zelena comes to threaten Regina you can see Robin stepping closer as if to protect her if something goes wrong.

It’s good for Regina to have someone to confide in. Plus it says a lot that she trusts him with her heart (literally). “You can’t steal something that’s been given to you.”

Rumple/Regina: I thought the letter was extremely interesting because while in that time it was about Zelena now it’s what Rumple thinks of Regina.

I think he used the events in his life to manipulate Zelena only it went incredibly sideways bc he didn’t realize Zelena would fixate on him so much.

Captain Swan:
Hook doesn’t have the Jolly Roger! You know what this means? It means he gave up his ship for a way to find a way to get to Emma. He gave up his home, where Liam died and where Milah died, the last trace of his home to get Emma back to her home.

CS At Grannu’s: Reference to Graham and the throwing of the darts..Notice how Emma has gotten much better at it.

Holy Character development Batman! For Hook to be the one to tell her not to get stuck in revenge it means a lot.

Emma tells Hook about the Jail thing (big thing bc only henry knows) http://vickyvicarious.tumblr.com/post/81952786622/emma-tells-hook

At this point it’s safe to state that if Emma didn’t want Hook around, she wouldn’t be as gracefully comfortable standing so close to him. But good lord, Colin O’Donoghue, try not to kill me and millions of others with your outstanding acting abilities.

The moment Emma mentions: as far as he knows, I haven’t seen Neal since he left me in jail. While Hook’s been to his fair share of prisons, he believes that the ones in our world are far worse. And the moment she says this, the expression in his eyes instantly saddens as he subtly tries to swallow because deep down, he’s breaking. He’s trying to hold it in but it undoubtedly shatters him that she’s been to one of those places. Also, “You’d really do that?” “Aye”

There’s one thing I found extremely impeccable about this scene and it’s the fact that Hook didn’t say something along the lines of “does that surprise you”. It pains him that she has very little faith in him sometimes, but he understands, he sees why she’s breaking. He knows her better than she knows herself and the fact that she can’t see what’s right in front of her is unbearable for him. He’s trying to show her that he’s not going anywhere, and he does that by demonstrating that Henry’s important to him as well.

Emma can’t control the fact that she’s afraid. While deep down she knows he’s not going anywhere, she’s still scared of giving her heart to him fully. And that’s completely normal. She essentially gave him an enormous part of her heart by trusting him with Henry.

I also feel the need to point out that the way her eyes fluttered after he said “nothing will happen to the boy while he’s in my charge” essentially has to mean that she knows it won’t. She trusts him. Jennifer Morrison does this gorgeous thing where she allows Emma’s heart to be reflected in her facial expressions even when her words say something else. It’s not that she was afraid of Henry being in Hook’s care, it’s that she’s afraid of the witch, but what she kept illuminating with her eyes and body language is that she knows she can completely trust Hook.

Doorway scene:

The fact that Emma kept replying with thanks again was because she already knew everything he was going to say. She knows that deep down, this is the best thing for her. Being around family, friends. This place is their home. And Hook knows that as well, he’s telling her she needs to stay because he knows that while New York may have been great, being around loved ones is even better. Though there may be trials and tribulations, it’s worth it because family, friends, and love are always worth it. He’s not pressuring her, he’s only telling her what he knows she already knows. A partner, a person, a soulmate, says what they know the other needs to hear and when.

Their body language is the number one sign that they’re incredibly comfortable with another, especially Emma. She holds nothing back from him. She knows he accepts her. She knows he loves her and that’s something that she’s intuitively drawn towards. He’s made it so she knows that everything she feels is welcomed with him and that’s why she’s able to be herself without hesitation.

The episode was about trust and second chances, she trusted Hook with Henry. And he had the second chance to be a fatherly figure to someone. It’s not coincidence that these moments all occurred in the same episode. At the end of the day, Hook’s part of the family – and it couldn’t be more obvious.

Quotes:

Rumple: Every bit of it. he was family.

Killian: Take it from me, vengeance is not the thing that’s going to make you feel better

Henry: What’s this?

Hook: That my boy is a sextant, it’s a tool used by sailors to navigate

Henry: Like a GPS?

Hook: ……

Hook: ……Aye

Doc: Mi meat

Emma: I’m not an amateur, I’m the savior
