We see David Nolan touch and admire the Unicorn mobile, but it doesn’t jog his memory of his Fairy Tale life?
however, we see that the windmill does jog his memory. Why?
We discuss a possible reason why in the Once Upon a Time Fan Podcast Episode 6 “The Shepherd” here: http://new.roneyzone.com/audio/podcasts/onceuponatimepodcast/006-ouat-fan-podcast-the-shepherd/

So, we know that Prince Charming’s Mother gave him that ring to marry King Midas’ daughter:
Here’s a better look:
We see MMB playing with it as she waited for DN to arrive:
We also have seen MMB playing with it previously in episode 3 “Snow Falls,” as she watches David and Katherine embrace at the hospital:
and on the steps to her upper floor directly after in the same episode:
The most amazing thing I found is this picture of the ring:
Regina was wearing it in episode 5 “That Still Small Voice”:
So, how did Regina get the ring? We are seeing some time shifted scenes in this show. Meaning that the scenes we see in the Fairy Tale world are not in sequence. For instance in the pilot, we see Snow White marry, then she is pregnant. We see the dance sequence with Cinderella in another episode. So, we can assume that the scenes we are seeing in Storybrooke aren’t in the sequence that we are seeing, either.
I think that Regina asked Rumpelstiltskin to conjure or bring Katherine into Storybrooke to insure that MMB and DN would not end up together. Perhaps the scene when Regina is wearing the ring is after Katherine is gone or removed from the situation? Maybe Katherine is Maleficent (transform by another curse, maybe)? At this point, anything is possible. What do you think?
Note: Read the comments below. Some feel that this isn’t the same ring. That’s cool. I could be wrong, but I just wanted to pass along what I thought.

These are initial thoughts I jotted down or that came up during my viewing of Once Upon a Time’s “The Shepherd” episode. As the week goes on, some of these will become blog posts or topics of discussion in the podcast.
1. Shepherd boy becomes dragon slayer. Similar to David in the Bible, except he slayed a giant.
2. Jacob and Esau in the Bible. Trickery and passing a brother off as another for riches.
3. Katherine is left-handed. Just noting that.
4. David Nolan said the Savior, saved him. That’s three people, so far.
5. Widmore from Lost makes his appearance.
6. Evil warrior looked like the bad guy in Willow.
7. PC’s armor looked very Roman.
8. Rumpelstiltskin reminds me a bit like Jacob in Lost. He appears at very influential points in time to nudge people to do a certain thing.
9. Rumpelstiltskin can’t bring the dead to life. “Dead is dead,” as they said in Lost.
10. Rumpelstiltskin told Prince Charming, “There is another”. That is what Yoda told Obi Wan when Luke left Dagobah.
11. The story point that there are twins was used in Star Wars.
12. MMB’s blouse looked very princess-like. The cut of it looked like an early drawing of a gown Princess Leia wore, actually.
13. Painting behind David and Katherine Nolan on the couch looked like an artistic representation of Pinocchio. Log in the middle, branches growing above, legs growing out from beneath.
14. When the shepherd returned with the one sheep, I was reminded of the Bible verse talking about the shepherd leaving the 99 sheep to save the 1.
15. Prince Charming asking his Mother, “Why didn’t you tell me?” Was exactly what Luke was calling out to Ben after Luke’s initial battle with Darth Vader.
16. Regina works in Storybrooke, as Rumpelstiltskin does in Fairy Tale Land to nudge people in certain directions to do certain things.
17. The green ring that Prince Charming Mother gave him… Oh, but that will have to wait for a very interesting screencap I have.

Pt. 1
DN “Careful, looks sharp” to MMB as she uses a letter opener. He would know what looks sharp, of course.
MMB uses a small version of a sword. She was quite handy with one in Fairy Tale land, ya know.
On the blackboard, lots of information about comets, nebula, superclusters, meteors. To me, it is teaching and/or reminding the class that there are things beyond the day-to-day world that can amaze us, and some may even wish on.
As DN and MMB initially talk, the walls are filled with tree cut outs and forest colored pictures hung up behind them.
MMB is not wearing a cross (as she has previously) this time, but what looks like a key. A signal that she is open to love?
MMB says to DN, “I’m trying to do the right thing”. Again, the back and forth of what is right in one situation make look wrong and vice versa. Note: I think that Katherine Nolan was conjured into Storybrooke to keep DN apart from MMB, but that’s just my theory.
As DN presses MMB that he has feelings for her, she says, “You already have a life.” DN had a life in a land that time was frozen, and he was in a coma for a long time. He has awakened from the coma, and now he is awakening from the “sleep” of the dark curse in Storybrooke. So, in reality he didn’t have a life at all.
DN also mentions that he has a life with someone, “I didn’t choose”. This may be a stretch, but I think this may be a clue to how Katherine came to Storybrooke.
DN “Whoever married Katherine is gone,” alluding to the old or “in a fog” DN is gone, and the real DN that feels a connection to MMB in another land is breaking through, like the pieces of SW’s coffin to the Storybrooke soil.
DN “I’ll be at the bridge where we met at 8:00 (Lost number, of course)” That is a classic romance motif used in 1,000s of times, but because places that match with the Fairy Tale world (and possible portal possibilities) it is not only generically romantic, but may also lead to further revelations into who the people really are.
Side note: Ginnifer is really a fantastic actress, and the scene of her trying to stop his advances and push him out is amazing.
DN “If you choose this, if you choose us, you know where I’ll be”. We see again how choice (and accepting the consequences they bring) is central to the characters discovering who they are. This breaking down of the dark curse may become a very painful process (and it was on the island in Lost), and people may not survive future choices.
