From Chris Tipton

I have to disagree with yall. I was completely blown away by this episode. It was my favorite this season and probably top 10 overall. My top 5 moments (how i will do fb from now on)
5.) Bell is finally useful again!! Also a wild blue Fairy appeared!!
4.) Hook and Rumple
Rumple is the most evil he has ever been. Any redemption he had is completely gone. What he is doing to Hook is deplorable. Bell seriously needs to find him out now!! I wonder if Blue is really gone now. I thought she would get away, and she may have since we didn’t see her get completely sucked up.
3.) Preparations for the spell
Reginas talking like a hero now! It was hilarious when Snow said Elsas blind faith was screwing them. Charming and Krannas reunion was cute.
2.) The cliffhanger. Really well done. Snows evil eyes then… Black!
1.) Krannas story
So much about this i loved. One of my favorite storylines in a long time. Mainly because of Anna. Elizabeth Lail has it nailed. I cant even watch frozen anymore without seeing her as anna. She had so many awesome lines.. Mainly “holy cats thats cold” cool to see blackbeard again. I assume Ariel saved him? Also, finterference! I loved the reveal that this whole plot was basically parallel to storybrooke. I had thought it was in the past the whole time. Kranna in the trunk was a glorious scene. I almost cried when Anna started reciting her vows then laughed when Kristoff was like wow what are you doing. SO MANY EMOTIONS!! Elsa and krannas reunion was beautiful. A cold miracle! The music in this scene, and episode was so amazing!! I could go on about this one forever, but ill save you time

Thanks to ABC and Disney for providing a review copy of the OUAT Season 3 BluRay discs.

Do you have to own the discs of Once Upon a Time? Can’t you just stream them?

There are many ways that people can get/view/consume TV shows, but we think there is still a place to own either DVD or BluRay discs. The quality of the look of the episodes and the ownership of the episodes in either DVD or BluRay will allow you to enjoy the episodes without the worry about a legal streaming service ever removing OUAT to make room for another show. That plus, some of the extras still make Season 3 a must own.

Commentaries

In a way, the commentaries are (at this point) taking the place of the Official OUAT Podcast. Good insights included and it was a plus to have Robert and Colin, but we wish that Robbie Kay, Rebecca Mader or others in the cast could have been included as in years past.

Deleted Scenes
I felt Mr. Van Winkel would have been a great scene to leave in the episode, because I want to believe that there are many fairy tale characters throughout the OUAT storyline. By leaving in this scene, you wouldn’t have to announce a new character reveal, you would know that any character is possible.

There were many deleted scenes that (to me) are worth owning the discs for.

Bloopers
I wouldn’t consider this segment bloopers, I would consider this “the goofiest moments” of them all. Fun, but not bloopers.

Wicked Villians
I loved the insight into what makes a villain, or on the flip side, a hero. Peter Pan and Zelena were missing, and I felt that they should have been included, since they were central villians to the A and B arc of Season 3.

Tale of Ariel
This was my favorite. I enjoyed the parts of creating and bringing Ariel to ‘Once Upon a Time’.

Another animated Disney film that starts with “Once Upon a Time”

BATB is basically a morality play teaching a lesson about not being selfish

Never judge a book by its cover. Books are Belle’s treasures.

Belle mentions she was reading a book about beanstalks and ogres.

Another theme is that reading makes you a hero.

The opening song that also serves as exposition of the story.

Beauty-and-the-beast-disneyscreencaps.com-519

Gaston says he wants Belle because she’s beautiful, but there are other beautiful women in town, maybe he sees Belle for more than beauty?

Belle-Wolves-(Beauty_and_the_Beast)

The wolf chase scenes were chilling.

There is a classic horror film look to some of the scenes; the gate, the castle, etc.

The Beast entrance was scary, as well.

Belle breaks many stereotypes; She says no to marrying the strongest man, she reads, she wants adventure instead of staying at home.

Belle bold sacrifice – “Take me instead (of my father)”.

The Beast wants her to stay forever (like Rumpel said in OUAT).

Another classic horror story motif, the hunting party (or mob).

Lots of classic Battle (or Misunderstanding) of the Sexes moments; Men can’t eat or handle their temper properly.

The Be our Guest song was very Esther Williams and Busby Berkley pool or dancing number.

(below) Picture of Busby Berkley section in Hollywood Studios’ Great Movie Ride

Even dishes, chairs and lamps have destinies.

We are shown an animated conflict resolution.
“If you didn’t…”
“If you had…”
“Thank you…for saving me”
“You’re welcome”

Ripping the shades of the windows.

He’s No Prince Charming.

Hunters are bad. At least that’s one of themes of the film is.

Thanks to Marissa and Paige for their help.

Jeff and Colleen’s thoughts:

How did Pan/The Lost Boys communicate with Greg and Tamara? How did He/They deliver the “communicator”? How did they know to light a signal fire?

How did Greg and Tamara know where Neverland was? According to Neal, if you think of a place you go there. How did they know?

Tamara was surprised they made it. I would assume they’ve never made that or any trip through the portal. Who taught them about portal travel?

The Charming family seem to be pulling apart, but the more dastardly and dashing characters are working together more easily.

Bae’s Sword. Did Hook teach him to fight?

Can Team 7 or Mother Superior somehow send some pixie dust to Henry? To give them a way to escape?

Mermaids seem to be the first line of defense of the Neverland island.

How kooky is it that all the exposition from Greg and Tamara about The Home Office led to it to be revealed and now (it seems) nullified?

Rumpel referred to Pan the way most people referred to Rumpel (Especially Regina, “There’s always something more with you”)

Wizard of Oz – Crystal Ball

Will Emma rescue all the Lost Boys (as she connects with him as an orphan), or just Henry?

Will our heroes have to complete games to gain control over Pan and escape the island?

Rumpel’s connection to Neverland. Collecting babies.

Jeff and Colleen,

My friend and I were talking last night after the premiere and we had a thought about peter pan and his shadow and would like to get your thoughts on our theory. We were wondering, since there is a human pan now, why does the shadow get the kids and not the boy? We thought that even peter is trapped because Wendy said once you step foot on neverland you cannot leave, but maybe your shadow can? Please let us know what you think. Thanks.

From Lorie

I don’t know why I didn’t catch this last season, but the thought just occurred to me and is really bothering me.  Hopefully someone will have some insight for me.

We know that until Emma arrived and decided to stay, the clock didn’t move.  toward the end of season 2, it showed Regina walking through town and the day kept playing itself over and over with no real changes.  So, I guess we are to assume that these characters were stuck in the same day for 28 years.  Now to the part that bothers me.  We know that at some point before Emma arrived, Mary Margerete and Dr Whale had a fling, Dr Hopper was treating Henry and he would not have started that when henry first arrived.  it had to be at some point later in time.  also, we know that at some time in the 28 years, Red tried to leave, but Granny had a heart attack.

so did time really stand still and repeat itself over and over, like groundhog day.  Or did their lives go on during this 28 years, its just that they didn’t really change much?

Really looking forward to the new season.  Have missed the podcast.

Lorie

From Holly

Hey Jeff and Colleen,

I have to say that I really enjoyed the season opener for Once Upon A Time. There were so many great scenes in this episode that I’ll only touch on a few of them. Loved the scenes in Enchanted Forest with Mulan, Phillip, Aurora, and Neal. Nice to see that Neal made it through the portal okay. Though if I were Neal I don’t know if I wouldn’t have been saying that I was Rumpelstiltskin’s son right away. Cool that Rumpelstiltskin hid a few of his magical items in the Dark Castle and that they could only be found by Neal. Though I am wondering how Neal knew about the Dark Castle. Maybe Rumple told him about it off screen while they were in Storybrooke, or Neal heard about it from others during his travels. Greg and Tamara didn’t last too long in Neverland.  Be careful who you work for and like Henry said, you need to ask more questions. Tamara actually thinking that Rumple would forgive her for what she did to his son was wishful thinking. So glad the two of them are gone. The scenes between Henry and Pan were bone chilling. When the Lost Boys were circling around Henry with Pan, I was so hoping that Rumple would have shown up and did his best Molly Weasley impersonation/ improvisation of  not my Grandson….. Colleen, I agree with you about how cruel Pan’s games will be. I’m hoping not too cruel. I’ll wrap it up here. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts and everyone elses.

Give Lady a treat from me.

Big Love to everybody.

From Maii

Just listened to the first thoughts on 3×01.. and first of all thank you for not hating on Hook… I’ve had to stop listening to some podcasts bc of their excessive Hook bashing..
Just want to point out some things

One thing you mentioned Hook looks at Emma like a daughter, yeah I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure if a dad looked at a daughter like that it would be highly incestuous but he does care about her. No one can deny that (no matter how much they want to)  just look at the way he looks when she’s talking:
1. The scene with rumple and Emma- Killian looks murderous and worried
2. The almost drowning, He looks terrified and then he looks relieved when she woke up
3. When he is talking about the happy ending he looks directly at where Emma is sitting when he’s done talking
4. The scene with the drinks, he knew she needed closure, and that she would be all in knots about Rumple’s words so he went to cheer her up.
5. Her speech at the end he looks seriously impressed and his “I quite fancy you from time to time when you’re not yelling at me” is a way of stating his feelings after she almost died. (Emma almost died in the same spot Milah died)
& Bae did go to our world when he fell in the portal, he ended up with the Darlings then sacrificed himself for Wendy’s brothers and that’s how he ended up in Neverland.

Your podcast is wonderful and I really enjoy it keep up the good work.
Maii

From Brad

Hello Jeff and Colleen, it’s great to have the podcast back!
Here’s the list of things I learned from this weeks episode, The Heart of the Truest Believer.
#1. Henry was born at 8:15.
#2. The electrical surge after Henry’s birth would suggest he is magical too.
#3. Sand is not an effective replacement for batteries.
#4. Neverland is the Motherload of magic.
#5. Rumpelstiltskin always finds time for a wardrobe change.
#6. Snow and Charming are Infuriating optimistic.
#7. Neverland is a place where imaginations run wild.
#8. Sharks and whales and kraken’s, oh my! Have nothing on Mermaids.
#9. Hook fancy’s Emma when she’s not yelling at him.
#10. Portals take you wherever you think.
#11. Mulan and Aurora are much more likeable than the first season.
#12. Robin Hood had a major face transplant since the last time we saw him.
#13. It doesn’t take much for Aurora to give up.
#14. It is much easier to get someone to hate something than to believe
#15. Evil Peter Pan and Felix are amazingly wicked!

P.S. I really thought the music from Mark Isham this week was great!

Disney – DCA New Buena Vista Street and Carsland Review

We had the awesome opportunity to preview the new Buena Vista Street and Carsland at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim last Monday (before the Media preview, by the way). Colleen submitted herself in a drawing for a special Annual Passholder preview, and she won. We also invited some local friends (that had AP’s) to come along on our invite, and that was so awesome.

Buena Vista Street

It was a magical moment to see the blue door that had kept up out for so long…

but today, we got to go in the door.

The first thing it reminded me of was Hollywood studios in Florida. The detail was so incredible and the characters that walk around and interact with you made it so much fun.

The Red Car wasn’t running that day, because the walls were still up. I can’t wait to ride it. After our quick trip down Buena Vista street, we walked out of the other door and made our way to CarsLand. I was not prepared for what I was about to see.

As I walked through the rock tunnel I said “Wow,” and I would imagine many other people did and will. I felt like I was transported to another place. To me, Disney never captured the the distinctness of the different lands, because you could always see other portions of other lands sticking up, but with the canyon wall, they have blocked the rest of the outside world and you feel like you are in CarsLand. There are so many touches from the movie, it really feels like you are in the movie.

I rewatched Cars last night, and I kept getting the feeling like I had been there. Disney has outdone themselves this time. It is really an amazing new land.

Such detail, down to the products in the window show that they had thought through the entire experience.

We rode Tow Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and it was a variation on the Tea Cups. A sort of ‘whip the tail’ kind of ride. Lots of fun.

Luigi’s Flying Tires was a tip of the hat to the old Disneyland Flying Saucers. (Remember to lean in the direction you want the tire to go in). Also, on a hot day the air jets on the ride floor will be a welcome surprise.

The more you explore CarsLand the more cool things you see, like the curio shop. If you have ever been on a driving trip/vacation along Route 66, many memories will come back to you.

Then, we rode the Radiator Springs Racers:

That is the best ride Disney has done to date. All the best elements of Test Track and great dark rides over the years, including the enhancements perfected in rides like the Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, as well as cool touches from the movie, Cars.

Overall

Disney has saved DCA. This is the DCA we wanted when it opened in 2001. Now, we have it. Kudos to Disney.

Buena Vista Street

Rating – 8

I enjoyed the style and design of the area and the character interaction.

Carsland Overall

Rating – 8

Love it, but they need more tables for those eating or drinking (Cozy Cone area tables fill up FAST) and more shaded areas overall.

Lugi’s Flying Tires

Rating – 5

It’s okay. A bit of a novelty that I don’t know how long will last. My advice, get a Fastpass.

Tom Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree

Rating – 7

Fun ride. If you like Tea Cups-ish rides with Larry the Cable Guy singing at you, this it for you.

Radiator Springs Racers

Rating – 10

This is the crown jewel of rides right now. Get a FastPass as soon as you can to save yourself time waiting in line, which will be long all summer long. There is a single rider line, that seems to move fast. Note: I would give this ride some time to settle in. I have seen may reports of break downs in the last few days, so since this ride is mostly computers, they will tweak this and get it settled in over the next few weeks (months?). Anyway, just sayin’.
