OUAT – The Hollywood Reporter interview with Barbara Hershey

When the news that Beaches star Barbara Hershey was cast as Cora, the Evil Queen’s mother, Twitter went chaotic. Beaches fans were happy to see Barbara Hershey again and the #EvilRegals were happy to finally get more back story on the Evil Queen/Regina. So this was a win-win situation for everybody! 🙂

So in anticipation of this week’s episode, The Hollywood Reporter was able to sit down with Barbara Hershey for some questions and much anticipated answers about how Regina became evil.

‘Once Upon a Time’: Barbara Hershey Teases the Evil Mother’s ‘Warped’ Ways (Q&A)

The Evil Queen wasn’t always the scheming, malicious person Once Upon a Time followers have known her to be. As it’s revealed in Sunday’s episode, the Evil Queen’s mother is far worse.

Oscar nominee Barbara Hershey stops by fairy tale land on the ABC drama as Cora, the mother of the Evil Queen, a.k.a. Regina (Lana Parilla), in “The Stable Boy.” And as Hershey tells it, Cora “has great ambition for her daughter” as every mother does. The only catch: Her desires for Regina aren’t exactly coming from a place that’s pure.

OUAT – The Queens Heart Vault

In episode 7 (The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter), we see that the Evil Queen had a vault filled with hearts and some  other things we still need to figure out. When she commissioned the Huntsman to kill Snow White and bring back her heart, she intended to add the heart to her collection in the vault.

When the Huntsman did not bring back Snow White’s heart, the Evil Queen queen took his heart instead and placed it in the heart vault.

In Storybrooke, we see that Regina has brought this heart vault with her and hidden it underground, where she takes Graham’s heart and crushes it.

In this episode (Hat Trick), we see the Evil Queen doing everything she can to get into Wonderland to retrieve something. She asks Jefferson’s help and they both go into Wonderland.

As they get to Wonderand, we see this mausoleum-like structure that clearly belongs to the Queen of Hearts.

As we see the Evil Queen open the doors to the mausoleum, what we see surprises us.

The Heart Vault!

We see the Evil Queen retrieving a box from the vault and quickly escaping.

We realize that before she exits Wonderland, it was her father’s heart that was in the vault.

Who owns the heart vault? Who stole it from who? What kind of rivalry is going on between the Evil Queen and the Queen of Hearts? Why was Henry Sr.’s heart in Wonderland?

OUAT – Where did Jefferson go?

In the episode Hat Trick, we see that Jefferson remembers his curse and is forcing Emma to believe. Jefferson believes that the only we he can get back his life and daughter is if Emma can make the hat work and he can return to Fairy Tale Land. He believed that Emma was special and had magic.

His plan of action was to kidnap Emma and force her to make the hat. He also kidnapped Mary Margaret as bait.

When Emma was able to knock Jefferson unconscious, she tried to free Mary Margaret so they can escape. But not without a little fight from Jefferson. As he held Emma at gunpoint, Mary Margaret whacked him from the back and pushed him out the window with his hat on.

When Emma and Mary Margaret look out the window, all they see are glass shards from the window and the hat Jefferson was wearing.

Where did Jefferson go? Did the hat work? Does Emma really have some kind of magic that made the hat work? Or did Jefferson get away somehow?

OUAT – Disney’s Snow White Comparison to Once Upon A Time

We all know that ABC and Disney are part of the same mother company, so when Once Upon A Time was written, Disney gave them creative license to do what they pleased – either to create new story lines or use existing Disney connections to the show.

Snow White’s story is the central plot in the show, thus in past episodes, connections have been found to the 1937 cartoon version. This episode was no different – there are some distinct similarities found in the episode Heart of Darkness.

1. Two Snow Whites looking very similar

2. Scene with a blue bird and a broom

3. Happy’s Mug

4. The song from Snow White called With a Smile and a Song was used in both Snow White and Once Upon A Time. Snow White (1937) sings the song to calm her fears since she was frightened by the trees. And Snow (Once Upon A Time) hummed the same song while trying to lure the blue bird to its “death”.

(This similarity only applies to the first 15 seconds of the Once Upon A Time clip – Snow (1937) did not try to kill the bird. 🙂

Find any more similarities?

OUAT-August’s Secret To Henry; In How to Get Emma to Believe

August found Henry at Granny’s upset over Mary being suspected of Kathryn’s disappearance and possible murder. This is the conversation they had.

Henry: “She didn’t do it, why can’t people see that?”

August: “because, most people just see what’s right in front of them. I don’t think you can find the answers you want in the bottom of that mug.”

Henry: “Then Where?”

August: “That book in your bag. You know I’m a writer so I’m partial to finding my answers in the literary form.”

“Henry:  “it’s just a book”

august:  “is it?”

Henry: “Yeah”

August: “I think we both know that it’s not the case.”

Henry: what do you know about it

August: I know it’s A book of stories.

Henry: aren’t all books?

August: Story’s that really happen.

Henry: “You think my book is real?”

August: “As real as I am”

Henry: “How do you know?”

A: “Let’s just say that, I’m a believer. And I want to help others see the light, that my friend is why I’m here.

Henry: “but I already believe”

August:  “I’m not here for you buddy, I’m here for Emma”

Henry: “So you want to get her to believe, why don’t you just tell her?”

August:  “There are some people like you and me , we can go on faith,. But others like Emma they need proof. “

Henry: “last time I tried to look for proof I got trapped in a sinkhole”

August: “there are less dangerous places to look”

*August points to Henry’s book*

This made Henry realize that the only way he could get Emma to believe a little bit more was to find proof.

This where, he found the skeleton key ring he stole from Regina.

See other blog post for more about the Key Ring

‎

Henry also tricked Emma into using the key that opened Mary’s apartment door.

He made her believe, like August said she needed proof to believe.

This is also something else that was being said by Emma to Mary.  She needed proof in order to believe that Mary did not kill Kathryn despite the proof was the heart that was in Mary’s jewelry box.

Emma needs proof in order for her to believe, all Henry has to do, Is keep on showing her instead of telling her, eventually she will believe on her own.

How do you think Henry or August could make Emma believe that everything in his storybook is true?
